Speak whatever's on my mind? Okay. First off Riff it's "Ditto" not dido. Dido is a singer.

Well, let's see. I laughed hysterically when Bushy talked about a letter he received from a 2 ..er...er 10 year old girl! : That was hilarious! Oh! The speech was also! Then again,Will Farrell of SNL has always done a great George Bu...huh? That wasn't Will Farrell??
You mean that guy on TV who looks like he fell off a Lucky Charms box is really "our" President??!!! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaugh!!!

How'd he win for pete's sake?!
What? He won because there was a screw up in Florida and the Electoral College out-ranks the civilian popular vote?!!

That's it,I'm outta here! I'll be back when...oh the speech? I'd sooner believe Al Gore invented the Internet than anything Georgey Porgey says. I mean, they pre-empted "Frasier" for that!! Later!

The speech was great from a great President.

Dean is a whacko nut. Clark is too feminine (carries himself like a woman) to lead this country as President. Bye bye Gephardt. Kerry is too angry of a person and way too out-of-touch with the common man to ever get elected. Edwards is fake and he needs to stop sticking his tongue out all the time. Some leaders of other countries could mistake that as something other than what it is.

Bush is un-beatable.

Borderstone: I just knew there was some great, underlying reason that I liked you. Now we know! It's your politics! But you know what? It amazes me that some people can have such great musical taste (Gordheads) and then have such poor political judgment as to refer to George Bush and great leader in the same sentence!

I ADORE my President and I am PROUD to be an American under his courageous leadership! "Our GREATEST responsibility is the ACTIVE defense of the American people." Precisely. "America has always been willing to do what it takes for what is right." Of which other nation can we say that? Canada? "America will never seek a permission slip to defend the security of our country." God bless you, Mr. Bush! "We understand our special calling: this great republic will lead the cause of freedom." Amen!

I'm grateful that Lightfoot is, in public, politically silent (except for an early song or two). If he were to voice any opinions severely toward the left, you'd find my entire Gordy collection for sale on eBay! Probably Lightfoot is too humble to have fallen into the common trap of equating fame with importance. May the focus be always on his music!

riff,

...which is why they say not to discuss politics or religion with a diverse group...but having said that , of those who claim US citizenship on this board I could probably predict those who might voice dislike for President Bush and/or his policies. And if pressed I might be able to pick out the "undecided" folks. But that's why we currently have a two party system.

Another question for those of you who seem to hate President Bush, do you like any of his possible challengers ? And if you do, are you registered to vote for them? Just asking because most of the people I know personally who complain the loudest don't even vote, LOL.

I am sure the the people of the UK sincerely appreciate your obviously well-considered thoughts on this matter; especially the families of our 56 dead servicemen. Also, the grieving families of 2 dead Polish, 1 Danish, 10 Spanish, 17 Italian, 3 Ukrainian, 5 Bulgarian and 2 Thai.

Worlwide 27 countries have sent 24,000 troops to Iraq to support your great president in his "War On Terror".

You're absolutely right, Gaby. Unfortunately, my time is limited and I cannot fit a 7-page address on one post.

In terms of courage, I certainly would place Tony Blair at Bush's side. In fact, he's probably faced even more opposition at home than Bush has here in the States, and so has risked even more for the sake of his citizens.

Bush appreciates the multi-national support, as noted in one of his best lines: "Some critics have said our duties in Iraq must be internationalized. This particular criticism is hard to explain to our partners in BRITAIN, Australia, Japan, South Korea, the Phillippines, Thailand, Italy, Spain, Poland, Denmark, Hungary [etc, etc, etc]."

As far as willingness to do what is right, America has the best track record of any nation in the world. To be the most powerful and the most morally sound is a unique combination in recorded history.

Now I'm late for work, but the clarification is important. Thanks, Gaby.

Exactly. I couldn't have said it better myself. As long as Bush is at the helm, the world must take what we say seriously. You threaten our safety and we will take you down. Period. Look at North Korea! They have capitulated what we have been asking for decades. This is only because Bush takes a stand for what is right. He saved us from North Korea and crazy Kim nuking us in the future.

Well, I was about to post a nice little smily and say to Restless that we should agree to differ on some things and can we, please, be friends.

Do you realise how you are even starting to frighten your friends with statements like “You threaten our safety and we’ll take you down”?

Not all of us who distrust Bush’s foreign policy are woolly-minded pinkos under the bed, you know.

His statement that “If you are not with us, you are against us” terrified a great many people in Europe. It’s an incoherent argument which gives no ground for discussion. The days of imperialist gunboat diplomacy are over (or should be).

You say that Blair probably faced more opposition than Bush, as though it were some badge of honour. Well, I don’t happen to want him risking even more for the sake of ‘his’ citizens.

BTW, we are subjects of Elizabeth the Second. No British person is a citizen. (But I sha’n’t get started on that!) Although, as citizens of a country which fought a war to get rid of George the Third, it’s probably one thing we would agree on (or, maybe not).

Can we now, please, change the subject to something less controversial – like religion or sex?

If that statement should frighten anybody, they wouldn't be friends of the US. A statement like that should startle terrorists and enemies of the US and it's allies. If terrorists or another country is going to kill innocent citizens of this country, we should oil the jaws of our war machine and feed it with terrorists.

Truth be told about my politics Michigan,I really don't go far left or right anymore.

When I was too young to vote and up until I could, believe it or not,I was for the Republicans. Not for what they stood for because I didn't understand that part yet. I liked them because Reagan looked and sounded confident and "looked" like he knew his stuff. I especially recall him referring to the Dem.'s as,"Spending like drunken sailors but that would be an insult to sailors because they spend their own money." That was pretty darn funny.

Then came the weapons trading scandals and he looked like a fool,a bit anyhow. In '88 I could finally vote and naturally I chose Bush Sr. Around this same time I started to pay more attention to the news and I just watched this man run the economy into the ground,go back on his no new taxes promise, send our troops to the Gulf just like Jr. (except there was a somewhat more valid reason) and appear to distance himself from the L.A. Riot situation.

After that,I had realized that for the most part the Republicans in office tend to not be on the side of the average American,so I jumped ship to the Democrats. In '92 there was truly no better choice than Clinton. He made a good case for himself in the debates! Ross perot looked like a paranoid dwarf from Oz!
People can find all the faults they want with Clinton but in my lifetime, this was truly the best Presidential work I had ever seen! The economy was great and as far as I can see,he made very few political mistakes. I voted for Gore in 2000 but since that got all screwed up,it counted for naught,as it did for all others who did the same. Now,4 years later,I really don't care anymore about political parties. I feel that Republican & Democrat titles mean nothing anymore. They are just that, titles.

Voting straight party tickets is foolish and a waste of your vote as is voting for someone without knowing their qualifications or their stand on the issues. From now on,I read up or observe potential candidates before I vote for them. Then again,if the electoral college negates my vote again, then what am I voting for? Oh well, enough out of me. I'm having a good day and I don't want to dwell on this,at least until Oct./Nov. Later!

Please don’t play mind games with me, Al.

You are bastardising poetry which some people care about.

As the reasons for the carnage cut their meat and lick the gravy,
We oil the jaws of the war machine and feed it with our babies.

The body bags and little rags of children torn in two
And the jellied brains of those who remain to put the finger right on you.
As the madmen play on words and make us all dance to their song,
To the tune of starving millions to make a better kind of gun.

A little upset Gaby? Very typical. All terrorists should be killed and I hope we can kill as many as we can find. These are the worst kinds of humans there are.

Have you never heard of the war machine before? Or are you simply an Iron Maiden fan? Bastardizing poetry? Oh my. The term "feeding the war machine" has been around long before Iron Maiden. It was a phrase used in WW11. It was even used on the show "MASH". Iron Maiden used it in there song "2 Minutes 2 Midnight". They did not invent this but did add the "feed it with our babies" part. I added "feed it with terrorists". Very fitting.

The song which you copied and pasted is from their "Powerslave" album which has a couple of songs about WW11 on it. The other one is called "Aces High". Are you really a Maiden fan or were you just sleuthing around on the internet with everything that I write?

"There goes the siren that warns of the air raid
Then comes the sound of the guns sending flak
Out for the scramble we've got to get airborne
Got to get up for the coming attack.

Jump in the cockpit and start up the engines
Remove all the wheelblocks there's no time to waste
Gathering speed as we head down the runway
Gotta get airborne before it's too late.

Running, scrambling, flying
Rolling, turning, diving, going in again
Run, live to fly, fly to live, do or die
Run, live to fly, fly to live. Aces high.

Move in to fire at the mainstream of bombers
Let off a sharp burst and then turn away
Roll over, spin round and come in behind them
Move to their blindsides and firing again.

Bandits at 8 O'clock move in behind us
Ten ME-109's out of the sun
Ascending and turning our spitfires to face them
Heading straight for them I press down my guns

Rolling, turning, diving
Rolling, turning, diving, going in again
Run, live to fly, fly to live, do or die
Run, live to fly, fly to live, Aces high.[/b]

If you don't believe this song is about WW11, look at this link. "ten ME-109's"... http://www.cavanaughflightmuseum.com...109/Page1.html

Actually, Al, I’m not the slightest bit upset.
In a funny sort of way, this is becoming vaguely amusing.

No, I haven’t been doing any ‘sleuthing’. How strange you think I might bother!
Yes! I pasted the words, (I couldn’t be ****** to type them out.) I’ve been an Iron Maiden fan for a long time. I think I’m quite a bit older than you.

Shall I let you into a secret?

During the early ‘70’s, I used to sell The Socialist Worker. (Quite a radical newspaper), one that I’m sure you think should be confined to the depths of hell. (Me, too, now. But, hey, we’re all young once!)

My Grandmother was Sylvia Pankhurst’s secretary (Ask a woman if you don’t know who she was.) and freedom of speech and thought have always been important to the women in my family.

Even worse – I own an engineering factory and some of the components I design (CVJ’s, driveshafts etc.) (not the pick and place units, fortunately) are almost certainly now winging their way to Iraq. How’s that for irony?

Anyway, this is probably, bye bye, ‘ cos, frankly, I don’t feel too comfortable here, anymore.

Gaby.

Yep Riff, you did start a storm. My 2 cents worth:Yes all terrorists should be dead, I agree with B I don't vote party lines, I vote for the person. I liked Gary Hart (remember Mr. Monkeybusiness?)I still like some of his politics, and a lot of people are unfaithful in their personal lives that doesn't mean they can't be a decent President. I don't like Bush's idea of allowing illegal aliens stay for years then maybe become legal. I live in a rural area and I have been looking for a job-any job for 7 weeks. I also would like to finish one thing before starting another. Finish the war before making a deal about the aliens before deciding to spend billions on Mars or the Moon and for God's sake take care of the people here in the US instead of everyone else in the world. I don't have health care, and I don't qualify for unemployment because I quit due to health problems. Won't be long until I'm out of savings, but lets spend billions on rebuilding what was destroyed in another country. Too bad all that money was never available for the citizens of the US for health care, education or housing. I can't even imagine how people make it when they have to pay rent now days. It must have just magically appeared from somewhere. As far as the opponents, nope there is nobody outstanding that I can see. And yes, I am a registered voter and I do vote. So go ahead and let me have it.

Gaby,

If you're not gone yet I have a question. Why does having a discussion on this " a discussion board " make you feel uncomfortable ? Don't you think life and this board would be terribly boring if all the replies to a topic were just everyone agreeing with one another? BTW you are not the first person to claim to be leaving after they got involved in a discussion. Anyway, I'd appreciate it if you would explain your position. Thank You.

Although I realy do wish that all people could agree all of the time,I know that's not possible. Still, you tell your side and someone continues to try to sway you to theirs. It can't be done unless that perso has a major revalation on their own. So I just live and let live.

Thanks for your support Brink, about the party lines thing.

Well said Brink.

And no, some months the rent doesn't magically appear. I can attest to that.

Gaby,

I still don't understand the following: Please don’t play mind games with me, Al.
You are bastardising poetry which some people care about."
Mind games?lol Oh well. I've been accused of worse.

"During the early ‘70’s, I used to sell The Socialist Worker. (Quite a radical newspaper), one that I’m sure you think should be confined to the depths of hell. (Me, too, now. But, hey, we’re all young once!) Why would you assume I would think this paper should be confined to the depths of hell? Because I am a Christian?

Well, I know that you are reading this because you want to see the responses. Like I said, if my statements make you feel uncomfortable, perhaps you are not a friend of freedom. Sometimes you have to kill so you are not killed. I hate the thought of people dying much less being killed. But I hate the memory of my fellow countrymen being burned alive, jumping from the WTC, having those buildings collapse on them, innocent children being slammed with anthrax, watching friends bodies being eaten alive with biological warfare, the list can go on and on. If it means hunting down and killing those bastards like animals, then so be it.

You cannot sit back and be reactive with terrorism. You have to be proactive, bring them to their knees and fire freely upon them.
