Early this morning as I was waking up, I saw that TV show where they pick up famous people in the back of a cab and give them an interview. Val Kilmer was who I saw this morning and he was talking about his new movie "Wonderland". The woman who was interviewing him asked what something or other he wanted but was cut from the movie. He said "If You Could Read My Mind" and they were going to try and get Gordon Lightfoot for the movie but the directors went with someone or something else.

Anybody know anything about this?

all I know is that the film is about the 70's so IYCRMM would fit right in to the music of that day..

Val Kilmer sings it (along with Kate Boswell, according to the movie credits). I read somewhere that the main character in the movie apparently used to sing it and that's why they used it. I'd say he was a little nuttier than the average Lighthead.

It's in the movie - from the few reviews I've seen, IYCRMM is the best thing in it. See this morning's Boston Globe review, for example: http://www.boston.com/news/globe/living/articles/2003/10/17/trip_to_wond erland_is_an_unsatisfying_one/

Or San Jose's Metroactive review:

BTW, I found a track list so you can see what other songs are on the soundtrack:

TRACK LIST

1. Wonderland - Val Kilmer,Mc Gainey
2. Love On The Rocks - Jonathan Davis
3. 20th Century Boy - T-Rex
4. Shooting Star - Bad Company
5. Good Times Roll - The Cars
6. Search And Destroy - Iggy & The Stooges
7. Girls On Film - Duran Duran
8. In Every Dream Home a Heartache - Roxy Music
9. Faith To Arise - Terry Reid
10. Quinn The Eskimo (The Mighty Quinn) - Bob Dylan
11. Big Shot - Billy Joel
12. Stranglehold - Ted Nugent
13. Drift Away - Dobie Gray
14. If You Could Read My Mind - Gordon Lightfoot
15. Can I Touch It - Val Kilmer, Julieanne Steger, Josh Lucas, Scoot Mcnairy, Tess Parker

Thanks for the links, Annie. I think, after reading the articles, it is a movie that I won't be watching...not my speed. I would much rather skip the movie and just play my own copy of "If You Could Read My Mind" at home! I don't want some nasty mental images connected to one of my favorite GL songs.

thanks Annie, I was surprised that Watchman got the jump on you... but, you got the dirt! I like Val Kilmers' acting, but, this sounds like a movie I would not be intereted in seein'. Thanks, Gord music was certainly a part of this time line and action.

Here's a link where you can download an mp3 of Kilmer and Kate Bosworth singing IYCRMM.

I think they'd better stick to acting....

Good night! They better stick to acting. I could have done better than that! Were they trying to sound good or just screwing around? Kinda sounds like they are being serious.

I think it's a serious recording. The scary thing is, evidently they think they sound good, or they wouldn't have made it available for public consumption.

Ouch. I only listened once, as I've been good today, and don't intend to listen again, but did anyone else notice the change in lyrics? The last verse was I don't know where I went wrong, but the feelings gone, and I just want you back.

Interesting, but not nearly as moving as the original lyrics. Someone else can listen again to see if there were any other changes!
