Sundown album cover
found on
http://bipedalinfive.blogspot.com/20...to-gordon.html
a page headed
il Buono, il Brutto, il AlbumArto: Gordon Lightfoot
"Even so, Mr. Lightfoot looks quite dorky here. Interestingly enough, despite being such an unintentionally silly album cover, Sundown (released in 1974) was his most commercially successful original album. It contains such classics as "Sundown" and "Carefree Highway", and possibly other tracks about hairy be-sandalled men sitting in hay. Although a clearer image would probably reveal more, I have no idea what that stuff is behind his Gibson. Lightfoot himself appears as though he's about to say something, possibly "It smells like poo and the hay is itchy. Do I have to sit like this? Are you sure I look awesome?"

good one...
looks like the guitar is resting against a rockpile...the lighter rock in bottom left, i have always found bothersome for some reason
farm work and sandals don't mix...i'll bet GL stubbed his toe
...back to th blog, i've actually gotten used to the turquoise font on the Lightfoot cover over the years, although the baby blue shadow was an odd choice, imo
besides APPT have their been any other CDs that have scribed or labeled images on them over the years, or in resissues?
Question: which is your fave CD disc with respect to colour, image, font, design, etc? i do like the creamy light yellow and font on the Harmony disc

Re: Sundown album cover
I have only one problem with the Sundown cover. What in the name of God is GL doing smoking a cigarette close to hay? Didn't the photog know that hay/straw is highly flammable?

Touhy I totally agree on what they should HAVE had and in fact I was if you remember going to entitle my fictitious GL Japanese album "Sunrise"
mockup as displayed in my posting at:-
http://www.corfid.com/vbb/showpost.p...&postcount=179
In an effort to find a more appropriate "dawn" photo of Mount Fuji
I did some google image searching and found many superb sun over Mount Fuji photos including this one that I would have liked to "of" been able to use
However my little sister (not so little now she has just retired) visited Tokyo Japan recently for a conference and sent me a postcard with a similar Fuji plus bullet train picture.and when I was asking her about possible sunrise pictuures she explained that as Mount Fuji was to the west of Tokyo and omnipresent when in the city most photos would show the sun setting (not rising) as indeed is the case in the picture above. If instead I googled for "Mount Fiji sunrise" however there is a good selection of suitable photos I can choose from
Possibly this one would work well:-
in cse that fine picture with its bonsai tree bonus does not appear as it annoyingly did not just now for me I'll upload and attach it to this for posterity

Reason: to attach the photo

Re: Sundown album cover
The MFSL edition of the album, while it has the same cover, does have a cool label with a sunset photo on it. I don't have my copy handy to take a picture at the moment but here's one I found online:

Re: Sundown album cover
I'm pretty sure that 'rockpile' behind his guitar is indeed a woodpile. Why would you need to store rocks in a barn?
As for the picture of Gord, I always (and still do) think this is one of his best pics - the full hair with the beard and moustache, denim shirt, sandals - all very hip and cool.
I had Gord personalize a message to my family on my MFSL lp copy a few years ago after a Kansas City concert - he signed right on the guitar - it looks awesome!!! I still intend to frame it for better display.
