Default Anyone Going To See GL In Wheeling? PICS ARE UP !!

I will be making the trek to beautiful Wheeling, West Virginia on Wednesday to see the Man...

Will be with my 15 year old son and his buddy.

Would be happy to meet anyone there.

I didn't find this forum until the wee hours of the morning. I returned home from the concert, Wes, and simply couldn't sleep, I was so wired. So, I immediately started exploring on the internet and landed here. So glad to discover all of you fellow Gordon Lightfoot fans out there!

It was a thrill to see Gordon and the band in person for the 3rd time. I admit to shedding a tear when I learned the reason (from Gordon after the intermission) for Terry Clements' absence from the stage. I hadn't heard that Terry had "left the planet," as Gordon said. Such a loss. I thought Carter Lancaster did a fine job.

Except for the conduct of a presumably inebriated woman in the balcony (who insisted on yelling throughout, "We love you!" and who loudly pestered everyone in the audience to "get up and dance!"), I thought the crowd response was great.

I'm sorry I didn't know about this site in advance. It would have been a pleasure to meet you, Wes. What did you think about the concert?

Looking forward to checking back here from time to time. I feel I've found a home here among an elite group of Gordon Lightfoot fans!

Sorry for the double posting! Let's just chalk it up to my status as a newbie. I've learned the error of my ways and promise to do better from now on.

LOL
I feel sure that I am not the only one here to offer you a warm welcome Newbie from WV. What you can now do to reduce your embarrassment is delete one of the duplicated postings. In theory if you, as a signed in member, mouseover the edit button of either one of them you SHOULD see the option to delete it

If you then press delete a very wan almost unreadable option display drops down

if you have good eyesight and/or get the lighting just right you could read
at the top "reason for editing" which since you are about to delete the whole thing is patently superfluous so ignore it
Lower down it says
"to delete the message check the appropriate option then click the 'delete this message' button.
under that is as very faint box called with supreme logic "deletion options" with two radio buttons whose leg ends are actually annotated as follows:-
Do Not Delete Message which is a complete and utter waste of space since you obviously clicked on delete to get here so it should not be an option at all,and certainly not set as the default action.
and the option you will check if you are certain you want to do this
Delete Message
Then under those two buttons is a blank text box entitled quite unnecessarily
"reason for deletion" you can safely ignore that too then press the delete this message
button at lower right
If you are lucky your misguided duplicate will be deleted
I shouted "SHOULD" and said "if you are lucky"
because several times when I have wanted to delete a message the delete option as shown in my first screenshot above has been conspicious by its absence despite repeated visits to try to delete. There is a thread called "test" still in the err umm Test Forum that I simply gave up trying to delete.
Be aware that if your message was the opening one of a thread then deleting it will in fact delete the complete thread including any replies
This message has been composed and posted as a public service to my fellow fans here.
I hope Florian (the site owner) reads it or is alerted to it by the moderator person and can rectify the drop down information to make it readily readable
Finally GL Fan from WV enjoy your time here and do not hesitate to ask any question about Gord or the band somebody is sure to give you an answer, usually couched in polite terms!!
But do try the site's somewhat inefficient search facility first to avoid raspberries

Umm Yummy
P.S.
Do learn how to display images here, it is easy (even the moderator can do it!!)

Just like that and it's gone, thanks to you, John. I appreciate your detailed (and funny!) instructions.

I still haven't settled down to earth yet from the thrill of the concert. I'm sure most everyone here can relate.

I admit to being a bit nervous posting here--knowing that folks around the world will see my messages. A bit much for a timid soul such as moi. I thank you for your warm welcome, John!

Pattybear,

Give a BUNCH of credit to Char... It probably took her longer to post the pics than it took me to shoot them. We don't give Char enough credit.

It was an honor to take the pics and I hope you will all enjoy them... My treat!

Yes, Char, you DO indeed "know how to post a pic." Thanks for your warm welcome AND for posting these great photos from Wes! It's the next best thing to having had the pleasure to be there in person.

I'm enjoying looking around, and I'm thoroughly impressed by the knowledgeable, articulate, and enthusiastic folks who post here. I can't think of a better way to spend a rainy Sunday.

I'm especially awed by the concert reviews. (I know yours is on another thread, Wes, but you described the Wheeling show perfectly. And, I admire your multitasking abilities. I don't think I could take everything in and take great pictures at the same time. And, to think that you actually got to speak to Gordon and the band afterwards!)

Speaking of which, I was blown away when I read the transcript of your interview with The Man, Char! You made it seem as if I were right there with you.

Thanks to one and all for sharing. Cheers!

A great set of pix Wes..almost enough for JJ to create a video trom (or at least an interesting animated gif of Gord and Carter?)
I am posting again to point out that although I realise that Halloween is nearly here and that my old memory may be playing tricks or treats on me there seems to be something decidedly spooky going on with this thread.
Please somebody correct me if I am wrong, but to the best of my recollection our new member wvglfan having arrived home after attending this concert found he/she was on a high and could not sleep so started an internet search and delightedly found us
I do not recall all of the subsequent posting only that he was sorry he had not been aware of corfid before and could not therefore have arranged to meet up with Wes.
Unfortuneately being a newbie he/she contrived to post the same message twice, then felt that an admission and apology would be the right thing to do.
When I saw those original duplicated postings I was conscious that I had done the same thing myself a few times and had usually been able to quickly cover up my tracks by deleting a duplicate. Also I had recently had a problem deleting one of my own test threads. I therefore thought a mini tutorial was in order so that the duplicate post could be deleted and save our new friend any further embarassment
My own problem is that hitherto when I have repeatedly moused over the edit button at the foot of my first posting to the current test forum thread I had entitled "test" at

i could only see "edit" and the "/delete" was missing .I am sure that I made an apologetic edit complaining that I was unable to delete my posting and therefore the entire thread as I wished but today that edit is absent and a mouseover now correctly popsup edit/delete so later I will delete that superfluous thread as I had originally intended and that will be the end of it
As i said after wvglfan posted the duplicates he/she then posted a note apologising for his/her newbie error
I am certainly not imagining that because I replied quoting his/her actual words
as follows (the original is of course in the usual rectangular quote box with a now non functioning link to tfhe deleted message):-

Strangely that complete posting by wvglfan is now missing as you can see by scrolling up this page (presumably deleted but by who may I ask?l).
In fact I was almost beginning to think that this particular West Virginian GL fan might be a figment of my imagination were it not for three vital pieces of evidence
1.The quote I used from one "deleted" posting
2.The fact that Char obviously knows that wvglfan succeeded (following my tutorial) to delete something
3.He/she still has a member profile at
http://www.corfid.com/vbb/member.php?u=36233
Although strangely it now shows zero postings and even says most recent message.....Never!!!
No doubt once a post is deleted it is removed from the recorded total for that member's profile
In addition to the original pair of (duplicated) messages and the apology,I swear that In my email's inbox for a short period was an email from the corfid webmaster to me as a subscriber to this thread containing the text of a fourth posting by wvglfan which I only had time to read quickly but I think thanked me and acknowledged that my tutorial posting was mildly amusing . I did not consciously delete that email but now there is no evidence of it in either my inbox or deleted folders or anywhere else for that matter, and as I said this actual fourth posting to this thread has been deleted.Pretty spooky too
So there we have it , or had it.
It would appear that somebody deleted not one not two not three but four posts by wvglfan
whereas I would hace expected just one of the two duplicates to be have been deleted.thereby leaving one genuine one to fill out the thread because as it now Char's reference to us being "impressed with your ability to delete a message" only makes sense if the evidence in the form of one of the two messages were still here.
I believe that individual posts can only be deleted by either the owner Florian, the moderator person (Char) or by the originator and then only if he/she is a signed in member
Since Florian is virtually inactive here and as Char refered to the posts in her post that means that somehow wvglfan himself/herself must have deleted all four of the posts Is that right or even likely??

I just 'undeleted' them...perhaps when deleting dozens of posts/spammers they were inadvertently deleted...they're back!

I'm back!

Wes and Char, I'm at least as puzzled as are you. Yesterday, I posted a reply to Char's welcome and to thank her (and Wes) for the terrific photos from the Wheeling concert. I checked back shortly thereafter and I was stunned (to put it mildly) to see a screen bearing a very curt message informing me that I was summarily banned from the forum and that I could never rejoin.

I was absolutely flummoxed. I couldn't imagine what I might have said to offend anyone. I sent a message to the webmaster, and I emailed an inquiry as a reply to the "welcome" email I received immediately upon joining the forum. I have to say that I now know the sting of rejection. Oh, the humanity! I suffered the torment for about a half hour, after which time I calmed myself down and finally opened my mind to the possibility that it might all be a mistake.

I told my boss about it this morning. I decided to try to log in again from work. Wouldn't you know it? I was resurrected! All of my posts magically reappeared (including the duplicate post, which I proceeded to delete again).

So, you might be right, John. It must have something to do with the goblins getting a head start on their Halloween mischief-making!

Anyway, I'm so relieved! Yesterday, it was as if I were back in middle school (although, in my day, we called it junior high).

So, all is well. Thanks to you in particular, John, for giving this so much of your time and thought.

Now, I have to get back to work! Have a wonderful week, all.

You are very welcome Mr/Ms??? Sorry not knowing your name it is not possible to determine your gender hence my hedging my bets with he/she etc references
It bothered me tht the flow of the thread had been broken by the deletions but I have to say also that I am mightily impressed that Char knows how to resurrect deleted messages. Somebody has obviously written a superb tutorial that even a caveman could understand!!

Err Unm,Ma'am.It Sure sounds like yoiu did rather more than "nuffink"
Seriiously Char you really ought to badger Florian to improve the protection of the site from these malefactors and robot merchants.
It cannot be necesary for you to have to be constantly deleting the utter drivel they come up with having found thst it is dead easy to become a member here and then rapidly post a heap of horse manure tp several threads in all four forums in a very short time
.Moreover those of us who subscribe to many threads also are spending precious time deleting the gsrbage from our email inboxes
It sems to me that the existing CAPTCHA arangement to weed out non human new members is a dismal failure and totally inadequate. I frequently think of you when signing up for a new forum elsewhere , Many have a succession of CAPTCHA like blocks on joining and posting messages without entailing the moderators in any approval action
I frequently curse at most of the word entry ones because they use stoopid non-words that being unfamiliar are often hard to read or contain mixed upper and lower case letters with no hint of whether it is essential to get the cases 100% correct. However I came across a different one recently that required a genuine human to click on the correct picture out of four that was an image of a dog. That ought to prevent the spurious attempts of robots using names like abcd123 etc from making me puke with even more references to wow friggin gold!!
If one googles forCAPTCHA
Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart".
you willlesrn that a CAPTCHA is a Reverse Turing Test named after the computer pioneer Alan Turing who was educated at the English "Public" (i.e. Private/fee paying ) school in my town of birth Sherborne in Dorset. where I was living in 1999 when met a lady from New Jersey n what was then a busy Gordon Lightfoot Chat Room Susan was probably even more internet timid than you before you posted here.
Maybe I should try to resurrect the chat room (our last two hosting websites gave up or failed)

there are a large number of programs out there some presumably free
a few acknowledge the ;problems with text based programs and use images instead
Another method I have proved works I have used successfully for a number of years to ptotect my own website's visitor's book. For quite a while it was constantly attracting cretinous postings. if you now visit my website and click on its sign my Guestbook link you will open:-
http://www,johnfowles.org,uk/.guardian.htm
and see in action a very simple and free Javascript solution called Guardian courtesy of the programmer known only as "blank66".
The full Javascript source code is still downloadable from his website at:-
http://www.fortunecity.com/lavendar/...ardian_v1.html
Either left click on the Gurdian script hyperlink to open the text file guardian.txt or right click then "Save Target As to save the 1883 byte text file
Apparently I uploaded the revised entry page for the guestbook in June 2005 having just had to delete 92 unwanted comments received in the previous 24 hours and I have had none since so it really works a treat no tricks or goblins!
Hows about it young Florian???
