I listened to the song (didn't check lyrics page) to get EVERGREEN and the lyrics I heard Lightfoot sing were: 'a shade of AN evergreen'.. they are EXACTLY (not just 'close enough') the lyrics he sings..
regardless of what a lyrics page says the lyrics are "shade of AN evergreen" ..
just clearing that up..

Interesting how rain as a theme repeats itself in this song (my favorite rain themed song is Looking at the Rain).
Also interesting is the fact that the word "winsome" is in here, as it's a rather peculiar word and not used that often. A word, however, used twice that I know of in his lyrics--here and in "Rainbow Trout." "While Away" is anothr example, as in "while away the time of day" (Christian Island) and "you can while away the summer" (Couchiching).
I tell ya, this high rotation of GL music is making me notice a bunch of recurring "themes" so to speak. I even listened to a song today that had about five words in a row that repeat in an entirely different song of his, but in the exact same order. Now if I could only remember it!

Thank you Char, I'm sorry...,and, despite Wayne's World held as the datum of reference for the game, I listened, you are sure right...goes to show that human error (mine) is very real, and moreover human superiority to computers and programs....aaaghhh HELP my geo-lyrics-cruncher program is strangling me, and saying .."don;t EVER question me again, Steve... or I shall certainly send you out into that hole in Saturn caused by the Hadron Collider....OK steve are we clear, my creator?? hmmm ? and ya know it looked kinda funny when I loaded it in and then saw it come up in reply to yours... as 'sheen" - green is not even a sheen - its a " hue" in carto, color to normal people, not weird map-crazy ppl like me lol.. BTW that's why I have automatically used different text fonts, sizes, hues(color), and modus i.e. red fonts stand out, above, and to the left to the human eye, when beside white on a blue background.... anyhoo - thank you for the correction - as jeet-koon-do experts say when they get hit ! unhhh... thank you...for correcting me my friend...and exposing my weakness , that I may correct it.....uhnhh....ooophht aaagggh pfft. Unh-Oh....
Oh - and Char - I forgot to say, what with the kind and lady-like way you responded to that little database error THIS way:

Note: thank you , Linda, expos factos for allowing me to scrunch-up , or " conflate" your quoted area a little, no change in content, only reduction of airspace. That way I can blabberty more. lol..
Thank you for replying on this very difficult Q/Clue , Linda. Lets slam-dunk it hopefully in to the Hall of BIX-X, sung to the tune of "Bid Bad John..Big-John"
....lol - You know I just realized I provide my own laughtrack, like the fairly weak original sit-coms (fairly...??) all the way thru at least the last half of the game.....I'm most embarrassed, and ask you to come into my humble thread and be welcome. He who has rice-paper walls, and bamboo framework should not ... uhmm.. there has to be a fake wise saying to make out of that...lol.... write thread flames ? ....who knows..anyway.......
Thank you for your patience in waiting for the reply to your submit here on the hardest of the 5, I believe. This new slam-dunk reply-time turn-around is so much quicker, I simply had unavoidable reasons I could not attend to it until now.
Yes - I too have noticed , rather than themes per se such as the ubiquitous maritime and water-body and feature themes, I have been noticing more phaseologiques, for which I understand he is quite well recognized by songwriters for. Th iodioms and of sentence ryhime; then he will just as easily write the words he wishes to convey; rhyinig or not, especially not, then he still adds a known poetic contruct such as haiku-like 17 syllables, sure enuff. I too cannot remember the last
OK: you wrote, conflated and encapsulated from above:

Re: GL Lyrics fan(atics) fun quizzers and more !
5 new songs Q's/Clue's will follow the end of all 3
blabberty posts like this in the Yellow new clues post !:
This is part1 of 3"blabberty"
skip this and the next 2
posts if you wish to play only game clues - the next 5 new ones !
Memoirs (pre-humous) of a game thread host to other game thread hosts:
"Ya can't please everbuddy!, but you sure can get some
to think (ugly) thoughts about you lol" - smd aka pen-name for
years, not Trevanian, but:
geo steve !
Otherwise, take a peek into the strange minds of game hosts;
speculation, myth,or fact ? Does it pertain to the DaVinci Code?
Part 1 of 3 post-post Q175 gaming theory talk and a lot 'o baloney:
Steve's game reply posting on Q175 from Linda after-game-specific
requities, remaining length thoughts too much for the game
submission reply proper.
Part 1 of 3 - ruminations after Linda's post Q175. - "The
seperated non-game-requisite portion of my reply to Linda's; became my
short moderately-novel-ette, reviews include: " 23,000 characters,
all well-developed' ( News Annually
" - read the book: "Divergant minds
versant convergant minds _ perceptions of chaos lost, or paradise
gained?": previuosly published as :"The Mobuis Lyrics

THE SEMI-FICTIONAL SHORT STORY CATEGORIES; BOTH IN THE PURVUE

", 'The Nebulae Award'' for more than one 'Nebulous
Award' for full-length Sci-Fi novel, and again the smaller cousin for Semi-
Fictional Novellettes of the same ilk as The Nebulous Award' - 'The a Bit
Nebulous Award'. Finally, it won the 'Beegadze Bunja Core-Wrap' the
often sardonic and less-than-tolerant critics-with-short-attention-spans
guild and guild-casting for when it came to video. Wow ! Thats quite a
list to the right then the left; its like that inflatable punching clown that
allways stands back up. Toys with no self-esteem, or a hardy center of
gravity, one or the other !
Thoughts germane in part to Oh,Linda's game hosting in (Edible
Quizzers) abd sundry discussion lyrics related combining several
talks of Lyrics game laughs and dillemmas in general on lyrics,
"can't please everbuddy" - too long for a PM (5000 max versus
Posts - 10,000 max, of which this 23000 character post to
everyone and in some parts specific to Linda even cut in half is
still too long for a PM, and of likely insuffient interest uless
you are hosting a lyrics game, analogous in and of itself to the
dillemma in hosting the games resultantly, and aso contains some
material of interest to all perhaps.
This blabberty is ultimately all about what seem to comes back
around full circle to new thoughts;andfor handling ambiguous
cases for all interested players thoughts.
Also, my appreciation of the corfid membership over the years,
and then specifically how I HAVE appreciated the gang here in
Lyrics (non-edible and over in edible ) Surficially
related thoughts at best... lol, but GERMANE TO LYRICS in
general in this context. Some historical material on similar
lyrics in general as a concept going back to Joan Baez in 70's,
protest songs; and Lightfoot's discrete thoughts on same for a
Canadian artist's perspective.
- Hinging in some parts on the intended song for Q175, which was
superceded for Linda's win on an ambig case !
However - since in part two, here are some references to Q175
and Linda's work and submission, ( along with a large Qty. of
misc. thoughts on lyrics, songs, songwriters, Public Domain
Songs, protest songs, to be heard in most all folk singers's
work, IMO in Lightfoot's, discretely, and of limited QTY and
quite conservative mention/use. He was once quoted roughly as
saying that he did not ffel it germane or correct to build folk
songs written by him as a Canadian upon the shoulders of U.S.
protest movements, and/or event- eg Detroit and/or race riots in
USA, Viet Nam, et al he's felt more the pervue thoughtfully for
U.S.A. singer/songwriters - admirable IMO because it further
shows his thoughtful side for his contemporaries and colleagues
the U.S., and in general. Didn't/doesn't feel he HAS to have his
thumb in EVERY pie - I admire that.
And, a tie into Particle Physics that is actually
germane. To further enjoyment (I hope)in reading, the
break into two parts further allows reading of just the Q175
reply and game status essentials, and then if so chosen to read,
part two here without the extranneous information I am given to,
and by definition, some find tedious. In what other venue could I
have the chance to share tangential thoughts to Lightfoot's
lyrics with ties like these though ? Anymore
meta-talk of part 2 will be all of part 2, the world's first
Mobius discussion ! lol.... i.e Mobius strip et all
- the *real* ring of twisted ribbon that only has one side....not
ony possible but fascinating when further cut, the offspring are
on-again-off-again always connected increasingly shorter rings,
alternating from two-sided to one-sided. I'll avoid the head-pain
of the mobius pitcher. Both inside and outside and outside are
theoretically one surface, and exist only in mathematician's
minds and artists' renderings/conceptions with considerable
artistic license permitted their profession by definition !
Note to Linda
-specific- MULTIPLE THEMES U HAVE NOTICED
sounds like fodder for themes-based lyrics if one should sorta
play-out - which I've had happen in here - inedible lyrics lol-
and sorta re-invent methodology to regain interest a few times -
mostly 1st half of this thread's whole history - getting interest
to accumulate, and then now, as I've shifted with the gang (all
of you) in here to slam-dunk replies, but counter-
intuitively more enjoyable talk in many submits and replies and
talkin amongs the players near real time.
My turn around times have been using a lot of at-home time for
medical reasons I'll not distastefully bore everone with ... but
it left me with a double edged sword on time - I was here
more, thus available to process full-regalia "winter-sails"
(Ghosts of Cape Horn incredible video U C ?) responses, versus
the quicker (unless I blabberty lol...) slam dunk reply method,
coupled with the BIG X tracking status
for players convenience, especially with ten songs,
which I am ready to return to .... 10 songs,
that is - the 5 I just did- came and left in one day - hence the
justifciation I think for 10...
the couple of days that rendered me far
less available to process lent the ever-so-easy to have occur
sense of things out of control to some, when in fact, its
simply time, and the other factor that led to my spurious and
intermittent slow-downs - medical events so to speak ,
no more details from me unless someone genuinely needs
input in a PM on a similar difficuly - and
believe me, there are several epileptics and pseudo-ep as me
(absence seizures) that'll take me out for up to worse case
lately, had been 6 - 8 hours in a day, the time period most
responsible for the impression - understandably- of chaos
spiralling out of control... coupled with a new increase I find
enjoyable to read of player's combined thoughts, frustrations,
revelations, and sometimes consequentially difficult-to-discern
wheat/submisions from chaff/pure discussion.
Linda, the interest of
ppl with a thread that has any form of repetition of mode i.e.
quizzers ( which corfid used to do a LOT of, just different
modes...and definately name...lol)IMO is a highly transient
thing, for very esoteric reasons -in part- lol that
can lose 'em in a day.... one: for good and real reasons, but
also unfortunately, two: -mildly upset or
frustrated- player(s), that is looked up to as a true long-
timer or influential person(s) in particular , often
whom have no idea how much impact they are posessed of, and
unintentional provocation of players no longer '
holding truck' with a game concept or temporal rule set if
they see the ...de facto judge de jour or veracity
of the thread ( not Char - who is extremely helpful
in keeping interest in a thread where she knows hard work is
done , time of self is given, and some appreciation is due..
.....it can happen in hours...and interestingly the
impression unintentionally given at times simply by being
court de jour as host, or worse - "judge" thought to be
enamoured of bossy power-trippin' , when in fact all thats in
your head as -host- is to provide a good time (

Re: GL Lyrics fan(atics) fun quizzers and more !
Repeat: if you wish to go straight to the new 5
songs: continue past this second blabberty to the yellow '5 new
Q's/Clues !
Part 2 of 3 (cont)-Ruminations after Linda's Q175
posting:
(cont from part 1 of 3) (this is part 2 of 3)
I like how U can play your game Linda-
very smart gift -of sorts- to your friends in
Corfid; in my case, for all the things they have done for me by
just being here to play in the hardest of times;
loss of Merry, current -sorry- seizures'
previous in past surgeries, even farther back , wayy back...most
of you guys heard portions of this in the past - so I apologize
for the premature eulogy lol, ut Linda has not heard I do not
believe, in so far as pertinent to my corfid vakue to my
recovery, and what leads as point-for-mentioning it - ultinately
the tiles to down-the=road from then to now remaining factors
that effect my "hosting", the patience for which you've all shown
as players I am indeed fortunate for and thank you. Linda it
started for me with a severely impaled leg in a
glacial/mountaineering accident, followed by impaired
..abilities.... related to day-by-day terrors and fearful in-home
nurses staff visits -(owwww!)then drastically more abilities lost
after a car -mountaineering accident with myriad subsequent
surgeries followed by several degenerative neurological, and
spinal-chord- and -structural, and then the car accident - same,
same, different, the longer-lasting nemessis with some left-overs
here and there apparent and germane to odd response-time
variation i.e."where's Steve; he's logged in and we show him by
his profile page as in Lyrics (inedible) - mostly, catching up
and the VERY fun writing of new clue's/Q's.
Ruminations on Lyrics heard versus per database eg Wayne's World
Lightfoot!:
Then, also memory blanks on my "hard-drive" in the brain-pan lol,
and the seizures, and general down time when each new iterative
surgery comes up and convalescing disabled down time - drool time
watching clock in teeth-splintering pain....my God Linda this
game has been a God-send of occupying my mind from dwelling on
terrors to me medically - and when it plays out - even if
tomorrow , I'll have had an extremely fortunate run -
Linda, if I may, don't take it personally if attention to your
thread peters out for awhile, or harsh comments made for-various-
sad reasons - worry not - the interest will "reset". or you will-
by reformatting the "themes" or what have you.... and keeping it
genuinely fun - is a challenege - I had the good fortune of a
very good friend , an -email pen-pal, also a corfid member, that
was such good input for me regarding how I was conducting myself
in games, loquacious posts elsewhere, etc. and then, somwhow - I
upset her without knowing how.... and lost a friend that helped
me "stay-the course" if say 4 example , un-beknown to me, I was
hypotheticaly acting bossy or smart-apple, and did not know it,
orr conversely, I worry too much, and at times things are FINE,
and I'm worried ppl are teetering on the edge of losing interest
- inevitable at some, I think, who knows ? It will die out, or
evolve perhaps outof my hands, in whatever the majority enjoy -
maybe yours too, along time from know, you've probably got a
long, fun, run with the present theme alone , not to mention
re-invention !
Further Linda, as I try to regain my old sense of humour -hard on
several counts, ( eg last Saturday would have
been Merry and my 29th anniversary - on the 11th... and I totally
lost my sense of humour and got defensive, and missing my recent
pen-pal to point it out made it harder, oh well... .
Linda, you've; and other readers even more likely, have no doubt
had your fill and more of this belaboured and non-sequiter
thinking-out-loud for now.... but I wished to
communicate how subtly operating a thread to help ppl have fun
can be misunderstood, quite literally, in a day,and to not
let it upset you, 'cause- like in "Field of Dreams" - if you
build it, or subsequently modify it (lol) , and its a fun good
game by the nature of it, and it is ; they will....(the
players) by the thread's intrinsic nature - "they will come"
sequel-"(back)"
LOL lol LOL lol. WORRY NOT Oh ye who toileth by midnight oil,
that others may take their R&R and honour you with their
participation - I'll let it go there (Linda has been eyeing
possible exits fo 15 minues lol....)-
this whole corfid group has patiently remained
friends with me through very trying times, and others I know have
gone thru far worse than I - and I am worried very much about one
extremely disabled friend on-line- I have not heard from
in over a month... funny how some start to seem like family.
Well, BTW - Linda, your thread is going great guns ! Congrats
hope U R enjoying it as host. .
Now I'm even more interested in database versus 'listened too and
heard' by afficianados' heard lyrics, end of sentence Q
notwithstanding, best 2 not go there , accept for me not
differing anymore on a reply thats ambig, and the "heard end of a
verse" versus the " database
end of verse surprises" - which , with common
sense - I'll accept more readily now like with what Char
found to be true on the 'Songs the Minstrel Sang'
and appurtenant lyrics: not 'cause
she's moderator, but because were I in her shoes, I'd feel
cheated if I KNEW the lyric was "x", and database said "y".
Then, you and I , and by format - perhaps moreso I, have to
exercise judgement in a few more apects, and consequentiqlly be
further subjected to more scrutiny for fairness in application of
"rules" equitably, coincidentally, and ironically in the
simultaneous midst of a paradigm shift to player-requested more
casual/less rules = more fun approach, becomes a logical paradox,
as the shift breeds less-equitable thought time given non-
rigorously to submissions by virtue of growing more lax for
everyone's enjoyment, only to answer to polite Q's, or ribbing a
little, which I am totally cool with , on "hey how come
you did "a" for him, and "b" response for her ? Foul ! Foul !
Judge ! lol...lol...
So I tighten up..only to see interest wane over 'too many rules"
lol..lol... a logic prof would have an absolute field-day with it
! Such is the game, and the solution lies in common sense as I
see it, there are no "'PAT" answers. These statements as I make
them, smack of truisms, and therefor allready are likely well-
thought and allready existing knowledge for you-, if not futher
than I, lol... and I am simply displaying a keen sense for the
obvious to you ! ...lol.... ooh well... I try too help !
It all begs the question...at least I can smile the whole time
over identifying in my mind which one of the "twelve most common
written logical fallacies" is the game presenting me with, and
having further oppurtunity to "sharpen the axe" in the requisite
logic and linear-convergant modes of thought for programming in
my line of work, then shift gears in applying the priciples of
exception for my intrinsically divergant mind (aka scatter-
brained in a predictable order within chaos..lol) that seves me
better in the analyses-end of my work, which often takes the form
of what is the new correct question to ask, to properly plan and
execute/flow-chart the project known "type" of answer allready
forgone in nature, but not real answerrequired......leading
to"what question in turn do I ask...." Its all a chess-game on a
board of "chinese puzzle-moving tiles/squares" a.k.a. a moving
target -but its fun plinkin' - for you two Linda ?
So, onward and away from preachin' without a collar ..lol... and
on to topical discussion - more fun , less no-sh88 qualities to
it ! And BTW - I am - no surprise - going to have to break up my
2nd half (this post) into another split further, lol... no
matter...therefor the talky-talk will have 2 whole posts back-to
-back, and the first post of what would have been 2 planned,
becomes the first of 3 - the actual game-play response will
remain post 1, and this will become posts 2 and 3 after I split
and edit ! blah-blah-blah lol..... If I engage in any more meta-
game talk about the talk-about the game...lol... I'll have 4
posts ....ohhh noooo Mr. Bill................so, 'tseeer:next a
real subject .
end of part 2 of 3 blabberty's , GAME CLUES WILL BE AFTER PART 3

Re: GL Lyrics fan(atics) fun quizzers and more !
Part 3 of 3 blabbert on Lyrics -
5 new Clue's/Q's will follow after this post !BTW - in this
song about Robin Hood and colleagues in his
arboreal mansions of green, and his suit the hue of Kentucky Blue
Grass Sheeny Green (j/k) -
An interesting two lines of verse at the end instantly brought
the famous protest song to mind - in the tune and roughly similar
verse, unreliable at the moment as I have not researched it, and
have no reason too: - I can't remember the title, and
dang it all if a corfidite didn't tell me exactly
the name of the song when I asked in a thread...I had it in the
70's when it was one of the"yeah man, power for the
people ! Yes ! Down with (A-Z FILLIN THE BLANK") - except you'll
never guess what I WAS AN ACTIVE ACTIVIST FOR:
I arranged, while a Physics major way back in late 70's, a large
debate in the largest PLenary -session room in
Colo.StateUniversity's Student Union *I forget the name of it now
!*- the bldg that is, but I put the University's top
egghead Proff in Nuclear Engineering, who was actually in the
M.E. Dep't, up against the head anti-nuke "Roy Young" - as I
recall, who was the head of the (of course) Boulder,Colo. based
"Rocky Flats Truth (Task ?) Force - who at the moment, I also
forget HIS name lol...making anythin I say in THIS thread "by my
memory - worthless tonight..lol...hey its been 30 years ago now !
Anyway -we packed the auditorium, and I had the two paralleled-
off in side-by-side Pres. Debate face-the-nation (versus each
other) diaz/podium config., and man-o-man the
students almost brought the building down,
I got REAL nervous 'cause I was getting the Hairy
Eyeball *(footnote below) - from Dr. Hadley (not H.A.D.R.O.N.-
lol) who ws the Head of the Physics Dep't, and is now
something like 113 yr old Prof Emeritus of the Dep't; they just
kind of prop him in the corner and he waves his arms with chalk
in one hand...lol...and NEVER got mad ...but he was
MAD at me... lol..Well, no self-respecting Physics
Student could be anti-nuke at the
time..so,
Yes, its true, I was a Pro-
Nuclear POWER (NOT ARMS - POWER) - which 85% of the Eastern
seaboard is still, little known sshhhh fact
....Anyway at one point, the anti-nukes in the "audience"
- more like the Detroit Riots... a large group were doing the
love-in version of the "Wave" and chanting these lyrics from Joan
Baez' great cover of the Public Domain (I
believe) protest song - lyrics paraphrased were/are:
"Ain't nobody gonna turn me around, turn me around, turn
me around,
Gonna keep on a smokin, keep on a jokin,
Gonna build a brand-new world...."
Powerful song...and then with what, knowing Lightfoot's
professionalism, had to be complete coincidence of similar-
sounding two lines of verse is all in:
'Keepin' On Yearnin': (The
intended song for Q175 superceded by Linda's Anything for Love
winning ambig)
Keepin' on smokin', gotta keep on joking
Gotta keep moving around
'Keepin' On Yearnin'
~gl lyrics per
Wayne Francis web-site- Lightfoot!
- wow, of course coincidence, there are only SO many
permutations, well, (n! / ...); OK I'll stop - of the common-
usage Collegiate Webster's Paperback 1" thick
80,000-odd word English Language - though
I hear we are up to 3,000,000 words per
Microsoft I believe in the complete unabridged
English Language INCUDING idioms, phrases, SLANG, and tech field
vernacular - my God that one could take 2.5 million of the 3
alone lol.... AND - It is, I understand, common practice
and considered in the profession of songwriting , common usage
passages from Public Domain songs within a copywrited song to be
completely acceptable and allowed by both letter and intent of
law, and in -profession norms and stds, isit not ?...
songwriters?
This not a controversy at all, and especially
, because I am going SOLELY my memory on the Joan
Baez song COVER of the
Protest Song of (to me) unknown origin. And tonight, my memory
has proven to be a thing far from science ...lol...even so, lol
*Dawn Minstrel Footnote per above, re: "Hairy Eyeball" Physics
vernacular lol
(accepted tech term in physics, right Dawn Minstrel ? lol.. but
he, our writer/singer of the beautiful video/song of his
"Laurianni" sp? - in the Thread on Dylans cover of INSTC , well
he PM'd me and pensively , humbly mentioned - he's a- PhD in
Physics. strong medicine to keep under your hat - admirable -
but was it Particle Phyics or PLASMA Dawn Minstrel ? - I'll PM
him... he is very humble in this, but he's involved in some major
Plasma flow Physics pure Research and is on to something
there...)
So, this non-linear relationship of subjects, with in great part
intentions of "talking shop" wiht Linda, also contained enough
general lyrics thoughts, and some personal "lyrics-related
history all the way back to the 70's, and sundery things are hope
were of suffient interest to post for this thread's readership.
Hoever, there was another major motivation = the original
compound post I'd written was over 17000 characters, a new record
even for me in corfid anyway, , and even cutting it in
half would not permit sending THIS 'part 2', arguably suitable
for a PM perhaps more than a post, would have hit a further
maddening wall I've not the energy for: PM's must be 5,000
character max... so this '2nd part' would have been further cut
and dited coherently into 2 PM's to Linda, and really, the only
"Linda-pertinent' shop-talk per se was less than 1/2 of this
post. So, I hope it wasof some interest to some ppl, and of some
use to you, Linda, on lyrics thoughts in general. Thanks for
indulging my un-magnificent outpouring of stuff, and in a fashion
that would drive me crazy tonight between PM's and posts, also
seperating all the marginally at times, but still related
material. A new set of 5-10 song clues will be posted ASAP a bit
later today on Friday, as its 5:45 AM here and I can't keep going
on this more now. What magnificent lyrics of Gordon's, allways
interesting to me to talk in almost an fashion respectfully of
his work. pheww ! "I am talked-out, back to BIZ" - Next post !
Next: 5 new Q's/Clue's in next post !

Not sure if this is off thread (I'm going with the 'and more' part of your thread title), but worth noting would be the themes of moonbeans and sunbeams...
"Moonbeam(s)" appears three times: once in East of Midnight (The road is paved with moonbeams, there are faces that I knew ~GL); once in Now and Then (Once inside we found a curious moonbeam doing dancing on the floor ~GL) and again in No Mistake About It (She's the shine in every moonbeam~GL). "Sunbeams" appears in The Pony Man (and we're safely in our beds again when the sunbeams kiss the sky~GL). Many other references to the sun and the moon....I'm finding all of this quite fascinating....
I must say that your Fun Quizzers thread you've got going has made me take a much closer look (and listen!) at each song's words and meaning, making me realize all the more how truly extraordinary Gordon's songwriting is. I can't think of anyone who's done it better, and for as long as he has, with such lasting meaning and impact. I really can't.

Roger all the above Linda; notably the SAME/SIMILAR impact that reviweing hundreds of his songs day and night while...gettng...beter...and having a blast ! - his music has been a a large part of my life's soundtrack starting with my fist girlfrend when I was 14; she's an att'y now in Ohio, and when that tender age I bought Sundown. I grew entranced with GL with album immediately, had been listening to Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, etc., and had only recenlty gotten into JT and Fire n Rain album. That caused me to look farther into a relatively tight genre at the time - pop-quality melodically interesting, singer-songwriters who could REALLY SING folk with a GOOD voice; meaningful lyrics (at 14, many I would not appreciate for years, and in cases decades to come) and have the "pop" -gasp' element of richly produced (not 2 much) of orchestrations and textures /tapestries/stand-outs of the Carole King.JT/Gordon/J Croce/John Prine/Carly Simon crowd that "all had a friend" - except that seemingly -a loner, who's music absolutely mystified me......Gordon's of course..... I bought it for the major cruising-catchy song Sundown B4 I really knew what he was/did, and after the LP, was hooked for life, 36 years of listening non-stop to same and each new album over and over. Spent a life time trying to broaden my pallette of music, and find other artists LIKE Gord, COULD not DO IT.
If Gord could have cranked out an album every 6 months I never would have needed to buy anything else with tomato-picking money and lawn mowing $ 2. Took me 'bout a week for album money.....and I'd keep looking in folk for anyone whocould even hold a canfle - and in the sum total of factors - voice/lyrics/compositional ability/formal training/orchestration in those big old Koss 3 pound environment chamber headphones - man I was GONE on his music.... then I learned its therapuetic value - broke up with my first serious (as far as 16 can b serious.llol) girlfriend.
It was then I learned of what he could help me get thru - and he has ever since in all event-crashes possible in life and love, lost loved ones, starting to eye anew, blessed distraction from major medical can't move for 3 months at a time....his music was my strongest "medicine" while in pain....still is....these are all oft spoken words in greater part...arguably cliches...but who can fault the truth ? His music/voice/orchestral arrangments - all formally trained in him at Westlake College, that TEXTURE and the lyrcial TAPESTRY - all said a thousand times of him and I'll say them 1001'st time each one...Its like HEARING MYSELF THINK when I listen to him...that elusive "everyman" quality in him as one pundit aptly described...that made him instantly identifiable with...but also enough of mystery - esoteric songs...metaphor and allegory,
and then his real-life explits impressed the cr** out ofme - the 600 mile sub-arctic sea-kayak and canoeing treks, the backpacking, things I KNOW the character and body strength it takes to do...made him more real for me..yet even more of an iconic legend in my own youg mind.... my Dad, now passed, tookk me on backpacks/canoe trips/wilderness winter treks.etc. age 14 - 18 and taught me my love of maps..
.point is i identified with an allready incredible songwriter even further when I learned of his wilderness exploits - notably the 6-800 mile 60degree + latitude rowing expeditions for months.... and i IMAGINED HIS personal exploits in shall we say other areas as famous and rich and women going gaga over him and all; lol..well in the young mind of a 14 - 18 yr old, I tried hard to even look like him, grew my beard in High School - almost caused a riot with Admin but parents backed me up... High-5 DAD!
but I still listened to his music moreover love LOST...lol.....so then when I got maried at 23 the personal naivete-based idol turned as did I into an adult and real person 4 me, and admiree him all the more ever since...seeing as how he stopped drinking and was re-building his life +/- 2 years from the year I got married and transformed from an adverturing.travelling/try ALMOST almost anythin once if legal....but naive young man, into a ethics-based family man and husband who took his vows seriously...and had our daughter.....continued college for years to come.....kept listening, each year hearing something more..... I can still put the Sundown CD on now at 50 , and feel the 14 -yr old wonder in my ears and mind over this legend who's music is so unique HE DEFINES HIS OWN GENRE.
Fortunately she and I both loved his music (good thing..lol) for the 29 more year she lived ) and now his music soothes my mourning side, and i know I'll pick myself up, dust myself off, and start myself all over again (sound lie a song ?lol) - and I'll continue to be a man as Dad said, my Son. . And ole Gord'll still be singing the soundtrack in the background...while I work like a soul inspired again...take a deep breath....and start all over again.....
. I have somewhat broadened my musical pallete ovew the years, but primarily 'cause I THOUGHT it was unheathy to listen exclusively to one artist. Still likely is. SO I listen to others, but wait like a dentist's drill til its over, and Gord is back in the CD-tray and now on the PC and Laptop....and I really love making "mood/theme !!!" CD's custom burn..like so many corfidites do... Say , What of one with birds...naw I 'spect the concept you initially thought would make a good one "critters" - woulld encompass birds as well. What a great concept. !
and it makes your thread make even more natural sense.... Your thread will go far grasshopper...lol....my thread is probably living out its natural lifetime....500 posts vs 5000 views 10:1 ration , by looking at the norm, is a common ratio, but extremely fortunate totals - not from a competititve POV, at all, but rather, from a "Iam really glad they are enjoying it" level, with that yardstick !
Keep up the excellent thread - you've done the equivalent of producing a TV hit that has its strength in diversity of setting - like for example stargate. They can have a new "theme" every weak - with a central focus - the gate and the team (GL here in your thread). I don't watch stargate - but my son-in-law does... and when I watch it with him - I realize that is their forte ! My concept has inherant limitations on the other hand - the number of songs in his body of work formost and fist ....(despite my sneeking my favourite songs back in more than once..lol)-
actually not intentionally - but hearing the songs in my head to extract the clue portions - now formally checking them B4 I post new Clues....lol...they still come from my head initially- so inherantly my favourites re-appear....I have to forcibly listen in my mind to the UA period, and the '79- '89 period....and then I learn new ways to appreciate a period I liked less is all.
Congrats in your concept. Spin the dial say to....wind next week, and you have an all new game,,EXCELLLENT. I am glad if this thread felt like any sort of springboard. Collectively, I really think we are adding(I hope) to the enjoyment through the players efforts far more so than our own, but a measureable impact 2 enjoyment has been made IMO - I hope. I think so. Roger all the above Houston, ! now..back to biz.... 6! new song clues = 5 plus a rarity again.
