I agree, Gord was a bit more candid than the typical interview.
I would encourage anyone who hasn't yet checked this out, to do so posthaste!

Re: Radio interview tomorrow
Well, that's probably the best interview I've heard about Gord since the one he gave in 1982 during his promotion of "Shadows" - I had just bought that record on vinyl. Very insightful and a little more "honest" than the 1982 interview where he talked about his canoe trip and drinking a bottle a day.
I was struck by the part when they talked about "A Passing Ship", and women, and so forth: some guys do get to the point where they just stop all that and start doing other things. It really hit home with me - I have four ex-spouses (three of them hate me) and as I slide into my 50's, I find that I am now content with solitude.
Very interesting that he hates his recordings of "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" - he described the one part of his first recording as "running to a fire". Pretty funny. He "won't allow them to defy the laws of gravity" - good stuff. It's still a great song in any version.
I was also struck by the honesty describing his relationship with the record company as it pertained to his alcohol issues at the time - that they "lost faith" and it was "a little too late". Tough to listen to that. One wonders what might have been....
Great interview and thanks for the hard work in getting the link here on Corfid.

Re: Radio interview tomorrow
A really interesting interview , but (and this should be taken as more observational than as critical), I feel that songwriters have one thing in common. They won't let you know too much about their motivation behind any given song or what they really think or why they wrote them . They prefer to allow you to draw your own conclusions and if you analyse what they actually say when cross examined it is not actually all that much in terms of depth . They will let you get "Never Too Close" . It is across the board -it seems to be part of a song writer's psyche that they have to maintain a significant level of privacy . Specifically with Gord., whenever I see or hear an interview I always feel he lets you in on a very small percentage of the essence of what makes him tick. (And yes I understand that that is very much his perogative. ) For all that he pours out in his songs there seems to me to be a large part of him that we will never quite know.

Re: Radio interview tomorrow
i know this thread is about GL and not about the interviewer but besides being a musician, tv host and radio journalist, last night i learned that he also is manager for the best new artist winner, "Lights" (are they running out of names for acts?)...anyhow, this Giam guy sure keeps busy out west

Re: Radio interview tomorrow
lol, well for those of us stuck with single syllable names, I would have though if one were to go through whatever it takes to change one's name then they would go for an exciting multi-syllable name...then again, Prince, Sting and Pink have had success
did Jian change his name to Giam or what?
I am almost through watching the Juno recording...that opening monologue left a lot to be desired...can we get some Aussie-Con and maybe hire Jackman for 2010?

you may get a kick out of this diddy:
http://rickivanoff.com/Some_Men_Get_Screwed.mp3
as he quite fairly points out in a footnote, many women also get short changed...saddest part is, the gal he's singing about basically broke up our last band...even sadder, he segued right into a new relationship, lol (but it's actually working out quite nicely)

Re: Radio interview tomorrow
good idea Ron, I'll need music for the movie I'm going to be writing.

James knows the story so that should help move things along.
