Re: Early Morning Rain/ Different Singers !
Gee, they look like they are having so much fun!
I think it must put people in a good mood to sing that song.

Re: Early Morning Rain/ Different Singers !
I would think so, it is a great one to play on 12 string.

Re: Early Morning Rain/ Different Singers !
I like this guy!
There's something about his style that makes him sound very "authentic" if that makes any sense.
I like listening to a man and his guitar with nothing else....that's got to be harder than having a whole band backing you up.
"It's a great one to play on a 12 string".
I'm sure it is but it looks like it would be difficult...is it?

Re: Early Morning Rain/ Different Singers !
No in fact it is very easy, 3 guitar chords will get you a long way. Now the picking is another thing.
" I like listening to a man and his guitar with nothing else"... Anne Nightingale
This may have sounded funny if you added the word on at the end, or maybe not ?
I agree tho, a singer and his guitar is the best way I like listening to an artist. It really shows is raw talent... That's why "East Of Midninght" is not his best Album for me anyway.

Re: Early Morning Rain/ Different Singers !
LOL....if we looked hard enough on YouTube we could probably find a "man with his guitar and nothing else on". Who knows what he'd be singing though....
So, the picking is the hard part...didn't really know that.
I think the guitar in "If I Could" sounds really amazing.
Every time I sit and listen to the U A collection I find something else to love on it.
I take it "East of Midnight" is a little overdone?
I will have to see what I think of it.

Re: Early Morning Rain/ Different Singers !
One thing to note about "East Of Midnight" is that this was Lightfoot's production. I believe he has stated that he did all of the charts except for "Anything For Love", which was a collaboration with David Foster. It speaks to his musical talents. Overdone ? I think so.......I like the bare bones version of the song "East Of Midnight" much better than the album version and they sound completely different. But it was Lightfoot's idea to produce it in that fashion.

Those 5 UA Albums are real treasures. I had them when I was still in school, grade (9). They bring me back to those days sometimes, when I listen to them.

That's right RM,
In "Anything For Love" Lightfoot's voice is almost burried... David Foster and his Yamaha DX-7... lol

Re: Early Morning Rain/ Different Singers !
"The Streak"...lol.
Yes, I guess that would fit pretty well...
I laughed when I saw your reason for the edit.
The only problem is that I can't get the image of Cat Stevens playing his guitar in the nude out of my head...it's scary!
Yes, I know what you mean about music taking you back to a different time.
There are lots of songs that do that for me.
I have a song for just about every important moment in my life.
RM,
I guess every artist stretches his wings a little from time to time so it makes sense that Gordon wanted to try his hand at something a little different.
I am not sure if I have heard anything other than "Anything for Love" (which I am not crazy about) off of this cd.
David Foster is a litte dramatic in alot of his music. I like his work with Josh Groban but that is a whole different type of music.
I will try and find some "East of Midnight" songs and give them a listen.
One thing I do like about Gordon is his diversity.
He really is amazing!

Re: Early Morning Rain/ Different Singers !
That's some great shots of Elvis and he sounds good singing that song.
I saw his last concert in Indianapolis just before he died.
I wasn't a huge Elvis fan but I did think he was an amazing icon of our times. I like some of his earlier music the best.
I guess he had kind of a sad life...unless, of course, he really is alive somewhere and just hiding from all of us....lol.
Thanks Jesse Joe

Re: Early Morning Rain/ Different Singers !
Your welcome Nightingale, I remember seeing lots of footage of that famous last concert on so many {TV Special} about him... Talk about a legend, I really still miss him, and Im glad he recorded EMR. That must have sold a copy or two ! $$$

Re: Early Morning Rain/ Different Singers !
Your Martin 6 string sure sounds good on this one Tim... Gord plays " EMR" on the 12 string. Just wondering if you have a 12 string guitar ?
