#11,
Thank's for the tip on the ernie ball med. lights.Though I did'nt try them yet on my GL,I put them on the V and I do like them. they do make a difference.I ordered a couple set's from a local dealer and payed $8.00 a set, which I was not happy about.
Anyway,I thought I would pass this along to You and any other picker's that might be interested in the best place I've found for strings. larry@toorelaxed.com I just recieved my second order from him today,4 sets of the E.B.med.lights $4.19/set and only $2.25 shipping..I've seen good prices for strings from other dealers, but most of them charge like $5.00 for shipping.Just thought I would pass this along....

Hi Burntstump. I have you down as #58, so one can surmise that perhaps #57 was the other one shipped at about the same time. However, I know nothing of its origin having never heard from the previous owner. And I have a third UK D-18GL, #14.
Mal B, if you'd like to write to me with your full name, I'd appreciate it. Although I have discontinued my Lightfoot site, I am still maintaining my list of D-18GL owners and hope someday to have all of them (I can hope), and to share the information at least with all of the other interested owners. Mine is #22.

Hi Valerie
How many D18GL owners have you managed to trace?
At the moment I know the owners of those listed below:
Prototypes 1 and 2, 1, 3, 7, 9, 11, 12, 14, 15, 21 (sunburst), 22 (me), 23, 24, 26, 29, 30, 35, 37, 38, 41 (original owner only), 42, 43, 44, 47, 49, 52, 53, 57, 58, 61 (lefty).
I know the original owner of 41, but don't know who he sold it to. I also have three other names; in one case, I just forgot to get the number and don't have the email address handy. The other two are people I don't know personally, but was told by a third party that they had the guitar. I was never able to verify either of those (both are people in the music business). So at the moment, I know the identity of 29 owners (of the 61, or 31 of 63), plus the two that I haven't been able to verify. I'm about halfway there ...
Prototype 1 was sent to Lightfoot, but arrived damaged. Martin replaced it with Prototype 2, and kept Prototype 1 for themselves instead after repairing it. It is on display in their museum.

Hi Valarie
Any more news on the list of guitars, did the guy in the UK contact you?
Funny you should bring it up. Must be ESP or something. I was just working on it yesterday. Sad to say, the latest version of the list was a victim of my hard drive crash last summer. The only backup I could find was more than a year old (it was not in one of the directories I backed up pretty regularly). I hadn't been able to face the task of trying to reconstuct it. I only lost 3 weeks of email, so theoretically I could find everyone that wasn't in the old version of the list.
I hadn't remembered posting the list of numbers here, so thank you for bringing this topic to the top. I see that I am missing 2 or 3 still. It's frustrating! (Update: I found the information so I'm up to date). I did get one more number just this morning, from someone I knew had one but I didn't have the number, and I confirmed that one of the people in the entertainment business that I was told had one actually did (JP Cormier, a Canadian singer/songwriter). I reached one of his representatives who comfirmed that he had the guitar, but didn't know the number. Hopefully I'll get it, but she kept asking why I wanted to know ...
Anyhow, I'll keep working at it. I don't think I ever did hear from the owner of #57. I think I'd remember ... (uh, where did I put my coffee cup?).
Here's a picture of JP Cormier with his D-18GL from his web site:

Thanks, everyone! I have emailed the seller and am waiting on a response. At least there are two for sale on the planet! I would like to know how this special model actually sounds. I have many acoustics, and if you play three of the same model, each one is slightly different. Does anyone else find that to be true? I am buying a Martin, and while having Gord's model would be the ultimate trip, it still must sound special. I played a David Crosby model, basically the same appointments, and it sounded like crap! It looked good, though! Any opinions???

HI Sean,
From a "collectable" point of view the guitar may be worth $5,000.00 but from a players point of view it is not. You can get a great sounding stock D-18 anywhere for about $1500-1600. have played the D-18GL. It is a nice guitar but unnless you are buying it as an expensive collectable, it is way overpriced for the (good but not extraordinary) guitar you will get. Just a players point of view. No way that plays like a 5 grand guitar!

Great, thanks! As you can see from my update to my message (above), I have reconstructed my list from my emails. And found the picture of JP Cormier too.

Hate to argue with a good friend, and I suppose I can agree that it may not sound like a $5000 guitar, but it sounds different and (to most people) better than a stock D-18. There are enough differences in the construction, including the use of different woods, to affect the sound. Most people think it's distinctly better. (Terry Clements said it was the best sounding D-18 he had ever played, and reminded us that he has played Gordon's). I don't argue that the $5000 price adds something for collectible value, but the guitar is better than a stock D-18. Really. (And I do know whose D-18GL you played).
