Gord's Tattoo

IMHO there are some things best left undiscussed on the internet for the whole world to read. I for one am embarassed by references to memories of personal and intimate moments spent with someone I love and respect with my whole heart. A tattoo on the arm is one thing, but Good Lord , I don't need to know what is or is not on the rest of his body. Jeez.

To Jesse Joe: My, My, My, what a tempest in a teapot! As for what I laughingly call "The Great Tattoo War of 2007", thanks for the very appropos quote. Gotta save that one. Truer words were never said.

And to Auburn Annie: I DEFINITELY think GL should write his memoirs but don't think he ever will. It's my opinion he gets his emotions and memories out through his music. I was raised by a wonderful Midwestern man, and have tons of Midwestern relatives. They just were raised in a place and in an era in which men were taught NOT to express their feelings. (And please, that's NOT a jab against the Midwest; living in California, I've wished LOTS of times people would just SHUT UP!TMI.) Gord was born and raised during the end of that era; I think he found his own way to express his feelings and still be not only "accepted" but praised and financially rewarded by his peers and parents. I recently saw a 30-year old interview with GL in which he states he hates to be interviewed because the interviewer "wants to look into your soul." From what I saw so many years ago, with his interactions with other people, believe me, he keeps his emotions locked deep inside. Furthermore, I think he should write his memoirs because: I work in the law, and have seen numerous times that you can have 10 people testify under oath as to how an incident occurred and have 10 different versions. Each version was true in that person's own mind! I also think GL would write it down because he survived not only the bad but the good! I think to hear from a SURVIVOR of all he went through might help others - maybe we'll have to just get that through his words of his wonderful songs!

I stand steadfast in my belief that private and intimate moments should not be shared with the whole world on the internet. I think it's sleazy and not at all in keeping with the normal tone of our conversations on Corfid.

For the one who want this Midwesterner to "shut up" you'll be waiting a long time my friend. And to those who may think we (or I) "think small" then you obviously do not understand my philosophy on life in the least.

Please don't take my comments personally. I respect your opinion, I just have a different take on things. And just for the record, we have discussed many topics here at corfid that sparked debate. That's healthy and normal.

Mostly my interest lies in upcoming dates and setlists. And I have enjoyed meeting and hanging around with several of the fine men & women who post here. I have little interest in what color trousers he wore last night BUT some do and I think that's OK, eh ?

But when someone shows up here - like his daughter - who claim to have known him "for real" and not just the chatting backstage or waiting in the alley routine, well that I think is wonderful.

To get a little insight into his mindset when he wrote these songs is priceless.

I for one don't want anyone to shut up so keep coming back.

Good points. I don't think one need worry about intimate details of personal relationships being revealed by Lightfoot, but a reflective of his career ups and downs would be a fascinating read. I imagine there are many tales to tell.

Number two, I wasn't the one that started what you think is so sleezy - there was talk about bathtub scenes before I EVER left what I believed to be an inocuous comment. Number three, please do not refer to me as "my friend". That gave me such a good laugh! And number four, where did I ever say I thought you "think small."

Hi, RM!

OOOH-OOOH, CATFIGHT!

This is just AMAZING to me...and I for one would love to read the continuation of his story after he fell off my radar. Like I say, SURVIVOR stories are so beneficial! However, my favorite song is "A Painter Passing Through", and he does say, and I'm paraphrasing, "And now I am old, let me rest." Let's do so and just enjoy the beauty of the music!
