Blue Rodeo, Lightfoot to play Moncton

Published Tuesday November 3rd, 2009

Some of the biggest names in Canadian music are returning to Moncton early next year.

Blue Rodeo, whose latest album, The Things We Left Behind, will be released next week, will perform at the Moncton Coliseum on Sunday, Jan. 24.

The band has the date posted on its website along with other Atlantic Canadian dates listed for Saint John, Charlottetown, Glace Bay, Halifax and St. John's.

The band last performed in Moncton on Feb. 21 of last year, and played Miramichi earlier this year.

Meanwhile, on his own website, Gordon Lightfoot has a Moncton Coliseum date pencilled in for April 3. The Canadian legend last performed here in 2007. Other east coast dates on his upcoming tour include St. John's, Corner Brook, Halifax and Saint John.

According to Lightfoot's website, tickets to the show are $60 and $65, and they'll go on sale this Friday, Nov. 6 at the Moncton Coliseum box office, by phone at 857-4100 or online at www.tickets.moncton.ca

No other information regarding either show was available last night.

Blue Rodeo to play Moncton Jan. 24

One of Canada's premiere bands is coming to Moncton to perform Jan. 24 at the Moncton Coliseum.

The Gillett Entertainment Group and Live Nation announced that Blue Rodeo will be stopping in the hub city on their Atlantic leg of a cross-Canada tour to promote their 12th studio album "The Things We Left Behind" released this week on Warner Music in Canada and TeleSoul Records in the United States.

The group has also released two live albums, a greatest hit collection and an award-winning DVD, selling four million records and winning five Juno awards as Group of the Year during their quarter century together.
Touring with them is The Dustin Beltall Outfit.

The tour begins in Calgary on Jan. 5 and is expected to include 30 venues across the country. East Coast stops include Moncton, Saint John, Halifax and St. John's.

Tickets for the Moncton show will be available Saturday at the Moncton Coliseum Box Office or by calling 857-4100. Cost is $40.50 plus service charge.

The new album with 16 songs on two discs is the band's most ambitious recording and will be available in CD, vinyl and iTunes LP formats and include interactive album notes and photos and a special acoustic performance of four of the new songs.

The tour also benefits the "Raise-A-Reader" program, with part of the money from ticket sales going towards literacy projects in Canada. The program raised more than $15 million since it began in 2002.

Thanks for posting the Blue Rodeo video. I love them. Very cool to see them playing on a roof top and sounding so good. I'm looking forward to seeing them in Vancouver later this month.

yeah, sounded not bad at all...

ok, i got parked, one hand holding tripod, and put the camera bag over shoulder (you know it's 1/2 the size of a hockey duffle bag, eh) and looked at some large guys with ear pieces and figured of all 99.5% white folks in the crowd, i looked most like a terrorist/Jackal carrying that thing along the sidewalk

anyhow, i was also part of the 0.5% of males in the crowd, lol...i was gonna hold up my cellphone camera in videomode but i figured that pose would demasculate me all the more....lol...anyhow, i couldnt' see much and was a bit nervous of folks falling off that edge...Kellor looked to be wavering, lol

this alleged GL/BR thread shouldnt' really be moving to the top repetitively during the week of Orilliofest and Gordofest but here's a final fun link during their latest promo, Edm radio, nice sound...I just think it's hilarious that Keelor is on an EZRock station, lol...I should get the Live Massey doc

ps) have a blast, Jenn

some nice shots & shirts missed the Cuddy tune (that Byrds one)....both quite thick-skinned to be without coats

love the Rider green...that Pepsi logo clashes, it's just ugly

haven't been to that stadium for 25 years, true CFL fans

sad that every Canuck can't get the game on antenna anymore

I remember that 'back in the day', here in the US we use to get televised weekly CFL games, and of course the Grey Cup championship. These days....zilch.

I don't know why. It's an interesting alternative to the NFL version. However, I did hear that Montreal took home the trophy.

Tonight, the Maple Leafs game is available on my cable service. I'll be watching..... until the NFL game begins.

The Blue Rodeo set was great..especially because I turned the channel to the football station just in time and didn't have to watch even one second of the game!
lol
LOVE those boys standing out there in their shirts tho Keelor snuck a long sleeved one under his denim one. It was a throwback to the Lightfoot shirts of the 70's..denim with embroidered roses..oh my.
lol
