The overlooked Spin Spin hit from 1966
Regular readers here may have sussed out that
I have a very soft spot for the sadly neglected hit single Spin Spin
This has been one of my personal Lightfoot favoUrite recordings ever since it became out of the blue the very first recording by Gordon that I ever heard , back in those heady days of 1966 in Montreal on that city's then fairly new fm radio service CJFM (now since January of this year I see known as:-
that Branson fellow gets everywhere!!!
Spin Spin, if it were not for the efforts at adding bonus tracks to their Lightfoot CDs by Germany's Bear Family Records
would only be available on ebay as a rare vinyl single
I realise that Gord may not be enamoured of his recording
but as an issue that rose to number 6 on the Canadian hit parade
That is a screenshot that I apparently made from a web page in May 2005 but no amount of googling today would refind which page on which website
My point is that a record that made number 6 in a hit parade should not possibly have been omitted from a recent CD release that purports to be the

Nor was it included on the otherwise brilliant and pretty comprehensive Songbook anthology
I am not alone because in a search earlier for expo 67 items I stumbled upon:-

Great Great Compilation but where is Spin Spin?
Have followed this great artist from the humble early days when he was playing for crowds as small as 100 at 'The New Penelope' in Montreal. His first popular United Artists' 45rpm a delightful/innocent/catchy tune entitled 'Spin Spin' the flip was 'For Lovin' Me'. I have heard that Gordon actually hates this recording...why? It garnerd attention and actually helped accelerate his breakthrough. Also truly question why it was omitted from this great comprehensive compilation of his early albums...where it belongs. When I look at the absolute crap in the form of unreleased rarities that were added onto the Warner Box Set, it boggles the mind. All this being said; Gordon Lightfoot has to be one of the most underrated masters of this and future generations. Buy any of his original albums and you will get more than your money's worth. This compilation at around ten bucks...a pure steal!!
Does anybody else share my feelings about this grievous omission??
