I don't really know what Danielle Steel's Full Circle is about, but could it be what the GL song 'Circle Of Steel' was based on? (I just came across the name, and wondered if it had anything to do with COS at all?)

Short answer: no.

Here's a synopsis of the 1996 TV movie based on the 1984 novel:

A television movie based on "Full Circle," Danielle Steel's novel, about a young woman who tries to avoid repeating her mother's mistakes in her emotional life. When she confides the details of the rape to her mother --who refuses to accept the truth -- the relationship between mother and daughter becomes more complicated. After devoting herself to her college studies and eventually building a successful career as a lawyer, she struggles to gain control of her life and the emotional issues that surround her.

My wife spoke of Danielle Steele's Romance novels as several cuts above your more common "paperbck novel" -the kind the drugstore sells, in any event, COS or not. She like Ms. Steel's writing, and said it was more mature writing style than the (her words) at times "cloying and naive" Harlequin (sp?) and/or Silhouette novel(ettes) or novellas - don't know if they use those terms anymore. Her MOTHER (snicker) used to bring down whole boxes of them for Merry to read - she could plow through one in 4 -5 hours max.
With 3 sisters, Merry said all the women in her family read all the same books.

Actually, my wife said a large amount of her co-workers and friends (women) liked to read the "BODICE-RIPPERS" lol she called 'em. I guess a bodice is an article of... er clothing.
They spoke of them as light reading, bubble-gum for the mind to relax, not unlike men reading Zane Grey novels, or "Delta-Force SQUADRON #98: C-4 goes China Symdrome"-type "guys" bubble-gum light reading. They have their place, Merry said - and she was an author. She wrote two novels.

Besides - last time I bought a paperback - "Deep Storm" - another alien-based sphere artifact underwater thriller, it was "$7.95 U.S. !!! Holy sh**. Yeah I know - nothing new there. But its the lending library for me from here on out (as the proper people spoke of in polite circles) WHADEVER. But 8 bucks for a paperback is robbery

Circle of Steel is one of my all-time favourites. The imagery is startling - "as the sun hit the handle on her heirloom cup" , so unexpected in essentially a protest song of social injustice. Beautiful melody. I learned to play the recorder part in the beginning, too. Big whoop LOL.....

I'd be happy to pay 8 bucks for a paperback..I looked at one that was on sale the other day and it was 15..and then we have 13% tax on that..
I go to the library..
Books have not fully reflected the Canuck buck being almost par with the U.S. dollar..
So I'm not buying till then..

Char - are you saying that a basic, standard size and format paperback novel is around $15 Canadian ? Good God..... I always saw on books and magazines the Canada/US differential, but had no idea it was that great. Moreover, (naively I ask) are you saying the Canadian dollar is almost par in international banking with US dollars ? Thats hardly fair to you guys.

And this book - was not one of the premium slightly oversized paperbacks that are more commonly non-fiction, like say "Road-side geology of Sasketchewan" or are historical fiction, not "novel" subject matter per se ? Your run of the mill size novel, say ., Danielle Steele book. $15 Can. - ouch!

Yep - Paperback books are expensive here and the 'par' dollar has been 'par' for quite some time now.

Retailers have marked down some of their stock to reflect it but it's still not pricing like I've seen in the States..and then we have 13% tax on most items..(not food)

I paid about a buck per hundred in exchange in July - a few years ago it was around 30 bucks..

Levis jeans at Sears here are around 75.00 (the style I like) then there's 13% tax. At Sears in Sarasota they run 50 bucks or so. They had a 50% off sale..so they were $25.00..then there was a scratch and save at the cash desk and I got another 20% off..so they were 20 bucks plus 6% tax.. On sale here I've never seen them less than 55 or so..
It's the same thing with cars, beer, alcohol, shoes etc..
