Memorial Day
Joining my American friends on this day, to remember all those soldiers that have fallen whether in the defense of your country, the establishment of democracy or the preservation of freedom throughout the world.
Memorial Day© 2001 Luke, 3rd Grader, Academy Elementary School, Madison, Connecticut.
Remember the brave soldiers who gave their lives
For our freedom,
God Bless them all these courageous
Men and women.
They fought on land,
Others at sea,
Sacrificing their lives for
You and me.
Schools and offices respect these heroes
From the past,
By flying our beautiful flag
At half-mast.
As you watch the parade and hear
The trumpets play,
Please think about what we celebrate on
Memorial Day.

Re: Memorial Day
Thanks Yuri. It's really a lovely poem and it's usually a nice holiday. Some of the younger generation aren't sure what we're doing so I try to remind them. And some use it as a day to protest, which I believe they have a right to do as long as they don't disrespect the fallen. The weather here today is great so I expect any parades will have a nice turnout. Thanks for sharing the poem.

Re: Memorial Day
I just wrote to Bru to thank her again for the Poppies she sent me from her Rememberance Day. I am the only person with a poppy on today. The VFW apparently isn't doing poppies anymore. They haven't for several years. I will share a poppy with my daughter when I go for lunch. We are going to go through the photo albums and introduce my grandchildren to my dad - a Marine who fought in Guadalcanal.

That's so cool brink - nice to know your Dad is one of my brothers. We're fairly serious about that bond. Regarding the poppies - I bought one yesterday on our way into Sunday Mass up in NJ at my sister's home parish. I didn't really notice but I'm pretty sure he was a VFW guy ? Anyway I'll ask my sister when we speak again because it's sitting on her dining room table... Guadalcanal, wow ! Someday when our paths cross you'll have to tell me his story. Semper Fidelis !

Re: Memorial Day
I feel for those that have served and their families.
For one's that have come home alive...... or come home and are never the same again...........or never came home again.
You gave your lives so that others could live. Irregardless of my feelings about war,I do salute you all for having whatever it is that I could never have,in taking such a high risk.
I only pray and hope and certainly wish, that humans should never have to do these things ever again.
Peace.

Re: Memorial Day
Podunklander,
that's really a great video!
Very sweet and true.
Don't we all wish the world could be so simple?
Maybe, someday.......
In the meantime, my heartfelt thanks to all those that put themselves in harms way for the safety of the rest of us.
You are in my prayers always.
Yuri, thanks for thinking of us and them.

Re: Memorial Day
I must say that, while I'm not too crazy about the war, I am still greatful for the sacrifices that the men & women who are out there, have made. I have nothing but a ton, and then some, of respect & admiration for these people.
