Howdy All,

After about a lifetime seeing Gord [pre-massive success] last night was one of the finest nights among them all.

The folks are up front and very personal in the HOB venues. As a fellow next to me said, "Well, the question of whether Gord trims his nose hair or not is answered" Now, that's up close [and maybe too personal]

Literally leaning on the stage edge, I saw things in Gord's eyes present in my remembers from The Golden Bear & Troubadour club days long away and far ago. Lordy, it was alive and precious.

Two things Gord doesn't usually go for are the audience either singing or clapping along. The former due to the idea of folks paying to hear him sing and not the lady next to ya' - the latter, well, most folks got no rhythm to begin w/ much less keep up w/ the sublte rubato most always present.

Last night: a few hundred singing Carefree Highway was just a Bit-o-Aw-Right! Same-same many other tunes. [the clapping still was very *white*] Gord loved it.

His music shined, the set was a lengthy one, and full of GordQuips [virtually absent historically] and stories - and encores. The real kinds [plural]. I stand amazed he had the sheer stamina to do the Trilogy as the last encore - and w/ a touch I've never quite heard.

To call Gord's band an Orchestra is quite accurate. The subtle interplay between Mike's keys and Terry's 6 strings, Rick's most fluid bass - like none other. Barry's percussion - not drumming. All in timely support to Gord's 6 & 12s and still-priceless vocals.

Speaking w/ him afterward, Gord was absolutely tickled w/ the *campfire* feeling. Not a privilege his usual venues afford. About now, in Agoura Hills, their fixin' to do it again.

If tomorrow weren't Mama's 90th Birthday, I'd likely be in Agoura. But, I figured it'd be a good idea to be awake come Ground Hog's Day.

At the risk of hyperbole [ME? NEVER!] I'm not sure I've ever seen Gord more Alive - especially after being dead.

In Joy . . . more to come

Rez

PS:

The Eternity Stare was fixed in Gord's eyes
last night - like never before - unflinchingly

The Song: The Watchman

My Lord - an Eternity Moment for The Rez, too.

A Wee PS: [really]

Last night, just before showtime, a sweet, rather *dreamstreet-like-rose* lady came up to me, slugged me in the shoulder [or regions thereabout] and grinned me big: Are you The Rez?

I, of course, denied knowing the person - as my true name is Borderstone. However, not to be denied, Dream Street Rose spent the entire concert standing - I say STANDING! - at Gord's literal feet [and making The Man smile on more than many an occasion . . . !]

This, too, left Huzby alone in their VIP seats upstairs. [Better where we were, huh, Dreamlady?]

So . . . beware you Agoura, Pechanga People:

Dreamlady might just come up to you; slug you in the shoulder [thereabouts] and say: Are You The Rez?

Deny It,

Borderstone

A Wonderment:

Last night, during the eternal Sit Down Young Stranger, I turned round and just watched the faces of the folks watching the Minstrel.

I stood, the entire tune, seeing what Gord was seeing - for the first time. So many raised countenances . . . barely a blink.

And a certain few who watch as I often do - Eyes Closed.

The Wonderment:

This is my place - for it will never be the same again. Only I only know.

Thank You, Gord - and Barry for your Lovingcare given graciously across all these years

"still priceless vocals"

absolutely and postively...the voice has evolved certainly, however in my opinion he's a finer 'singer' today, finer phrasing, finer dynamics, finer setlists, finely in tune more than ever before in all repects, a fine and viceral review, Rez...thank you

ps) when he breaks into selections such as SDYS, Spanish Moss, On the High Seas, Pony Man, Harmony, All the Lovely Ladies, etc I hand on every word and pluck of his strings along with every bit of colouring the band members add...those are the moments that keep me coming and would definitely draw me in the door if I had never heard of this guy ever before...a Gord night is a time of joy

ps2) granted, the the mixer could take the v's up a click or two

Beautiful reports from THB Rez. You always get your money's worth with Gord.

Please wish your Mama a happy 90th birthday for me. God Bless her.
