In order to encourage more of the fans here to master the art of displaying pictures on corfid I have now completed a Tutorial entitled "How To display pictures here"
as a test forum topic at:- http://www.corfid.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/000109.html
It would be fantastic if a large number tried it out and interesting to see what pictures are selected to experiment with
If you go there please try your hand and brain
I hope lots of you take the brilliant lead of the stationmaster who successfully displayed a great January 2004 pic of Mr. Gordon Lightfoot with Mr. Aengus Finnan
He gets multiple brownie points for that effort!!
I have also written a page of suggestions on where to find suitable pictures to display and this is at:- http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/lightfoot/pictureideas.htm
I suggest you look at that first to get the old gray matter a'stirring

Oh dear Char do have some confidence of course it bloody works. But the second display link doesn't for a very good reason: As I told you before if you want to display a picture you must use a picture address the one you put between the img tags is the sodden page address!! Therefore only 7/10 this time!!
I am replying because in addition to pointing out the above error I am rather surprised and verey disappointed that so far only you and the Stationmaster (on the small talk forum have bothered to try your hand
at this technique despite posting "adverts" on all three forums here and on the Newsgroup. I have just extended my introduction on finding pix to display at:- http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/lightfo...tureideas.htm. Let's see few more attempts please
TIP. If you are a member and make a complete mess up of your attempt you can immediately delete it and thereby avoid any embarressment!!

Hi John,
My computer is having multitasking issues right now. I'm plagued by adware. Until I can get a little protection going on, I'm technically unable to do this. I know, I tried. Really, I'd be crushed if you were disappointed in me. As soon as I have the wherewithall to do this, I'll post pics like crazy, just for you. And I'll get the square brackets right too.
I felt a bit bad for Char, you're tough taskmaster.

John,
Perhaps I'm thinking rather too much (or not enough, as the case may be), but isn't the "sodden" picture address part of the URL? I'm really going to try and post a picture. (I'm immune to the embarrassment of failure, which is a good thing, as I'm sure I'll mess this up.)
I understand how to write the basic code, but the picture address part is messing with me. help? gently...
Thanks
L

Ok, nevermind, worked out the kink in my overworked brain and realized I had misunderstood.
I was thinking that in the example code: [img]pictureaddress/URL[/img]
that pic address and URL were two separate entities. I got it now. Be proud John.
That was a first. Now to get a bit more creative, if possible.

OK Lauren you qualify
The point I tried to make was that Char had the second time tried to link not to an actual picture because she tried to use the URL "htp://www.cbc.ca/news/background/budget/"(note for clarity and to prevent the URL appearing as a clickable link I have deleted one of the two "t"s in "http") which is the URL only for the higher folder named "budget" only, and not therefore tbe picture's full URL, which does not of course work. If you check the correct picture URL you will find that there is an extra "gfx/lightfoot_gordon.jpg" after "budget". showing that the actual jpg picture file is in the subfolder "gfx" under the budget folder
even the renamed DMD3 in his second posting above after showing off with the bigger Fitz pic then tried to show a cgi page by putting in between the img tags:-
htp://www.corfid.com/cgi-bin/ubb/postings.cgi (again I have omitted one of the two "t"s in the full URL he used) just right click on the white square-red cross thingie then select properties to check what he tried to link to.
I trust that explanation makes it clearer!!!
Phew it is hot and humid here in NJ today (wipes fevered brow with clean snot-rag)

Thanks John! Cleared it right up. I'm going to go cruising for more pics to post

Sorry about your heatwave. We're sitting at a temperature hovering somewhere around "surface of the sun". (translates to 103 yesterday and going to be that hot again today). I empathize.

thanks again. I'm not always this slow...promise.

Stationmaster,
I thought it was a great photo also, but:
I dunno, I dunno, I dunno.

I went to Google, typed it gordon lightfoot
and hit images, then search.
There were pages and pages, just as John said. He's clever, our John.
I think I found this along about page 8 or maybe it was 10? You'll have to go searching..sorry. I think it came from a website that is mainly photos of Bob Dylan. I looked at many pics, so it's hard to remember. Now I have to find another and caption it.
It definitely looks like a mid to latter '70s pic, doesn't it?

When I found this picture back in February and displayed it at:-

http://www.corfid.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/002016.html
Mende Joveski of Melbourne very kindly provided full details viz:-
"the picture was taken at gords house on december 8 1975 when lightfoot
threw a party for the rolling thunder review. they nearly burnt down the house when a curtain
caught on fire". it was a great topic
with some very bizarre theories by the Watchman et Al.
ending with the multi colored horse declaring
"It's only taken me a year, but now I get it. You all are inmates in the same asylum aren't you?
I don't even want to know what any of you are in for"
Enjoy!!!

Great posts! I clicked on the link and read them through. Brilliant entertainment. Was the canoe named in rememberance of the bird? Latent guilt perhaps? Canary yellow canoe. hmm.
