Do any of you have those cell phones where you can make it play a certain song instead of it ringing? I sure as hell don't. Can you make it play a GL song? Whether you can or can't, if you have/had one of those cell phones, which GL song would you want it to play whenever someone called you?
Mine would be "Too Many Clues In This Room".

Well, I’ve hunted all over the net for a GL ringtone (How sad is that!!) but never found anything.
However, if you have a mobile where you can bring up ‘Extras’, you can then select ‘Composer’ and enter the notes for any tune. Providing, of course, you don’t need minims, crochets, a flat and e flat. So, Sundown is out. (And any other GL song). I’ve tried.
Has anyone else managed?

My son (bless him for his techical skills - he isn't a Lightfoot fan) programmed If You Could Read My Mind into mine. He didn't mention any limitation; maybe that depends on the phone? Mine is some sort of Nokia.
Anyhow, it sure beats wondering whether it's my phone or not when I'm in a store or restaurant and a phone starts ringing! So far I have never heard Gord on anyone else's phone (although I think one of the other fans I know has also programmed his phone, but I don't remember who).

I think Derek once had his programmed to play the opening bars to Wreck.

If I remember correctly, the Lawman (2M2L) has the Wreck on his cell.
I want Christian Island but how do I get it?

Val, "Great minds think alike", or "Fools seldom differ" depending on your point of view.
I too have IYCRMM as my ringtone on my mobile or cell phone.
JN(guitar 14)
PS I read this board regularly, contibute infrequently. But will be doing neither for 2 weeks, off cruising the Greek islands, back on the 16th. Bye.

I don't have a cell phone
but I didn't imagine playing any song on it, so therefore I didn't imagine offhand playing a GL song on it

Wow! (blush)
Actually, I just gritted my teeth – and pulled out the instruction manual. (grin)
Eight buttons on the mobile keyboard represent each note as a crotchet. There’s another button to change octave. Another button sharpens the note and two more buttons lengthen or shorten each note. (Depending on how often you press either of these last two buttons, you can produce minims, semibreves, quavers, etc.) There’s also a button for a rest.
It does seem mind-numbingly tedious, at first, but you soon get the hang of it.
Unless you have a perfect ‘ear’, it does help to have the sheet music in front of you but even then, although you’ve programmed in the correct notes it can’t capture GL’s beautiful nuances of tone when moving from one note to another. You do just end up with an electronic representation.
Downloadable ringtones are a multi-billion industry nowadays, so perhaps Linus should think about setting up a download area on their site for their artists’ ringtones.
