I'm fairly certainly his boat was named Sundown.

His first sailboat was "Sundown" and the second was "The Golden Goose". I don't believe he owns a sailboat now; even the canoes are pretty much put away. "Silver Heels" exists strictly in song.

Thanks for the info re. Silver Heels. I have always wondered if that was his boats name. I sail on the Halifax River here in Port Orange, Florida and I like to listen to Christian Island when I anchor out or when I am just drifting along in a light breeze.
Now that I know the name of his former boats maybe I can find some pictures of them on the net.
Does anyone know where I might find pictures of his boats?

Bloody amazing i have astounded myself!There I was quietly reading this topic.I heard "ding ding" in my head seached my
hard drive for "goose" and lo and flippin' behold I found that I had saved for just such an occasion as this an ebay auction
from November 2003 for "1979 ARTICLE GORDON LIGHTFOOT'S BOAT"GOLDEN G(OOSE)"!!
it includes this fine picture

and a jpeg of the whole page as "WRITTEN BY STUART M SMITH. 5 PAGES"
Note I can read the text so anyone who can't please contact Jenney (Rivard) of this parish pronto!!

The Magazine was indeed Yachting (April 1979 issue) and the seller was from some obscure backwood state called Maine!!

John---Thanks for the pics of Gordon's boat! It looks like a serious racing boat, especially with its 6'9" draft. I went to my local library today and they had that particular issue of Yachting magazine in their archives. I wanted to check the magazine out and scan the article and post it at this site but the library wouldn't let me check it out because it was so old. At any rate, when I arrived home I got online and found your pictures. I am glad you had the article stored in your files so everyone can see what his boat looked like. Great stern shot! That laminated destroyer wheel looked like it took a lot of expertise and hours to build.--Thanks, Noel

Yeah, John, great "stern" shot, hehehehe! And, yes, that WAS the first thing I noticed! Hmmm, now I'm wondering... there are 4 guys apart from Gord (in the white hat). I'm wondering... who is whom? In other words, whose bottom do we see? Terry's? Rick's? Mike's? Barry's? Let's do a poll. My guess? Who's "wild" enough to do that? Rick seems kind of playful (judging from only watching the Live in Reno DVD), Barry seems too quiet, so I'll guess Rick.

I noted that Char here and brink in an email had requested copies of the auction page so
dutifully yesteday I spent an inordinate amount of time sending them the main html page

and if you would then like to save it to your hard drive (or a floppy: the files total only a mere 145 KB)

2. simply open the page then right click and

3.go to the drop down file menu and

4.select "save as" using the default "save as type" which is "web page complete (*.htm,*.html)"
If you are saving to a floppy (recommended) it will chunter away until 100% has been saved.
you should then find on your floppy the main (HTML) file:-

and a folder:-

which if you explore you should find now contains the 34 graphics files that caused me so much hastle anf grief yesterday
including of course the two larger files

the html file is in fact the same as the file that I renamed and uploaded and gave you the link to above:-
GORDON_LIGHTFOOT'S_BOATGOLDEN_GOOSE.htm
which still contains links to the graphics files in the folder that I left with the complete long file name
as shown in 2. above
If you are using Netscape tough because for reasons best known to Netscape it does not appreciate the superfluous spaces in the original file name as saved

Noel with oodles of respect that is no excuse I would have thought that all libraries had photocopiers so you could have copied every page and when you got home all you had to do was perform a little Optical Character Recognition** magic using your scanner and then you could have reproduced the full article here instead of the 1 1/2 pages showing at:- http://www.lightfoot.ca/goldgoos.htm

John---Hmmmmm, our library doesn't have a scanner-only a xerox copier--I could have scanned the xerox copy but yours turned out a lot better. I don't have time to sit in front of a computer all day---I'd rather be outside getting fresh air!!
