Hi Yall

There is common factors between Gordon and the Bee Gees. They both were at their peak in the early 70s. Both have unique vocal and strings oriented music. Both came from new lands, Canada and Australia.

Listen to the Bee Gees early tunes and you will enjoy their unique vocal and accoustical guitar style. The BGs played one of a kind meaningfull melody.

In 1970 Gordon issued the "summer side of life" album, which in my opinion is uniquely Gordon Lightfoot. Thereafter, he issued many other collections which emphasized his unique vocals and strings. At about the same time the BGs produced beautiful tunes that combined their unique vocals and accoustical guitars.

Although I can be judged biased toward Gordon because, since I was a teenager, I invested more in his collections, I shall confess that the BGs, in my opinion, deserve recognition for their musical contributions and their contribution to the advancement of meaningfull musical style and taste. I am sure Maurice contributed to the BGs accomplishments. God bless Maurice.

The one thing I can say that the Bee Gees did that Gord, thankfully, never did was get maudlin and depressing in his songs. The Last Time I Saw Her comes close but never crosses the line between sad and down-right depression and self-pity. The Bee Gees on the other hand, recorded an abysmal song called,"First Of May". This song makes me want to listen to Season's In The Sun (and I hate that song!) The lyrics are about how one time they were all children and happy but now they're grown and something about Christmas trees that were tall, now are small. Then there's that depressing line about,"Don't ask me why,the time has passed us by." Good grief! A lament to growing up? I admit, leaving childhood isn't easy but it's not worth a self-pitying ballad like this. Man! I love the Bee Gees music, but that hit is not among them. Yuck! (Forgive me Maurice, wherever you are.)
