Re: GL Lyrics fan(atics) fun quizzers and more !
Joveski , the man, the legend, who jj calls to the bullpen on his last "save Rosebud - my sled, and ...get..unh..Joves...unh..joveski into the game or...unh...we'll flounder..unh,.....ummmph. phhhhht. lol He thinks highly of you sir lol.
Jenney nailed a bunch, but I've yet to formally run 'em through, so for the moment, I'll lock-up your submit on your unique entry for Q160...wind and.... 'tseeer
Sorry dude, you knnow, that SOUNDED right to me, too... it was not the intended song, but that makes no differrence..... I ran 'er thru, and Joveski I'm sorry bro', even the masters 'US' - (Denver DJ's thing) get a sound alike wrong here and there....the evidence, Lt., :
The wind in the wires made a tattle-tale sound
And a wave broke over the railing
sure sounds like ....wind and...
sorry man , we now hit the ceremonial GONG - as jj suggested we need. allthings are up for ideas now, that 's one of 'em til the meeting of minds lyrics summit, I'm wingin' it, and likin' it. sorry again and thanks (lol jj you are right) , - he said i apologize AND say i'm sorry too much lol...IDO 1! Thanks for for playing Joveski - nail it and i think i can post new ones; have to check your other, which dupes Jenney's I must re-check first dibs. :headbang
- oh - I
ll re-adress this post for 157 and 159 after I address double -check Jenney's. Hang in there man

Re: GL Lyrics fan(atics) fun quizzers and more !
OK Jenney, let's double check my quick glance from this morning on Q157
Clue as submitted:Q157....October
Clue ,per database:Q157....October
Song submitted:A Passing Ship
Song per database: Stone Cold Sober, that's ok, let's check for an ambiguous case on 'A Passing Ship':
Lyrics as submitted:A sunlit sea, on the last day of October
Lyrics perLightfoot! -source; courtesy ofWayne Francis:
A sunlit sea, on the last day of October
How fresh the wind, will you miss me from now on - 'A Passing Ship' ~gl SUCCESSFULLY ANSWERED ! That one works, ayup !CONGRATULATIONS!
Lyrics of song intended, per database:
For the record:
I was stone cold sober, it was daylight in October
When you reached across the table, put your hand upon my shoulder . Stone Cold Sober ~gl
Thank you for playing again , Jenney
Note:
OK - Its only de riguer to show the intended song from the clue given, but a fair match containing the clue word(s) given first, wins the clue by current convention in the game, unless near simultaneously submitted by another player with the intended song. But yours was clearly first, and stood awhile today, so that's why you're the winner !. You'll notice we have another submission with the intended song later this page and in the day. Hey, its just a game, and point is to have fun. Well done!

Re: GL Lyrics fan(atics) fun quizzers and more !
Joveski , an update for you:
Turns out Jenney's submissions all worked and double checked this evening completely , as I gave 'em a quick glance by memory this morning:
Q160 , allready covered in reply post to you remains outstanding, despite your so close sound-alike on clue words in TWOTEF. SO close.
Jenney took all 3 Q's157, 158, & 159 with a few ambiguous cases, and intended, and your subsequent Q's for those 3 of could the clues be used as you called for, you got a couple of intended songs in the process, just unfortunately for ya later than Jenney nailed 'em with as intended and ambig mix she had. Well played by Jenney. Your usual astute answers were thwarted today - thus far- (day ain't over yet ) by the sound alike on Q160, and just time of submission, after hers, later , with your correct and intended songs. Well played, in any event as usual joveski .
Man-o-Man, if we were to white-board an E/R diagram of song and clue entities, and lines - relationships - connecting clues both working for one ambig, but also as intended for another song, the resultant maze of intersections on just 3 songs, would be a pop-art sensation ! Verrryy interrresting ... lol
Thanks for playing, Joveski - remember ,
- Q160....wind and.... is still outstanding !

Re: GL Lyrics fan(atics) fun quizzers and more !
Q160 ....wind and ....
A MINOR BALLAD
There dwells a maid with a heart so mellow
Soft as the wind and wild as the sea ~GL
****ALSO****
THE MOUNTAINS AND MARYANN
The wind and rain might burn my eyes but I won't feel the pain ~GL
****ALSO****
CROSSROADS
Felt many a cold and bitter wind and many a mornin' dew ~GL
There are probably more, too (oh yeah, Shadows--it's a wicked wind and it chills me to the bone). Playing this game has caused me to put my entire GL collection into high rotation and in doing so I've really noticed how themes of nature (like wind, which is very pronounced) and critters (fish, bees, etc), even food, repeat themselves throughout his songs.
Might make for an interesting new thread, to start with the many songs referencing a specific theme he's written about? Has that been done before? Critters might be fun? Surprisingly he's got many references to foods too. What does everyone think?

Oh,Linda! Submits:
Clue as submitted: Q160 ....wind and ....
Clue ,per database:Q160....wind and.... -Match-

CORRECT ANSWER ! YES !
CONGRATULATIONS!, Oh,Linda!
You got it, allright !
Way to go ! And with others that work, too. But that was the intended song !
That wraps up all 4, Q157 - Q160. We are now ready for the new set of 10, almost done, stand by.... And consider Oh,Linda's great ideas as well, I like 'em !
Partial excerpt from Oh,Linda!'s post

A MINOR BALLAD

Soft as the wind and wild as the sea ~GL
|
Oh,Linda!, you had 3 other songs that work for that , too, a tour-de force. I re-read you ideas, and the theme Q's I really like, in fact, I had once suggested a theme set before this thread of seasons, eg autumn, spring, etc. I like all the ideas, got my vote ! We could pass the deal, too ! I've allways thought the game should be moreof a democracy, been trying... besides - I want to boo and his and make cat-calls at the "host" of the Q's too ! lol j/k
Reminder - we are done with the current set, and a new set is forthcoming !

Re: GL Lyrics fan(atics) fun quizzers and more !
Oh,Linda!, Char noticed a great preponderance of specific words.... notably she was astounded at how many references there were to HANDS ! That would allways be a creative fall-back for theme sets, too. We could pop-in a test set within the next 10, say 4 out of 10 are "critters" as you suggested. Let's wait and see what the other's say, as you suggested, in a bit. I can wait around about 30 minutes, then I can re-address the new set this late afternoon, MST.

Re: GL Lyrics fan(atics) fun quizzers and more !
Wind prevalent ? How about the Oceans, and the word "Sea" eg High Seas, by the sea, etc. This is giving me lots of ideas for theme sets, or, since it WAS your idea, you cold always do a spin-off thread if you wanted of course. I'm happy to incorporate these ideas if you want, and the others like it, too... hmmm I'd caution you on time, I am out of commission right now, permitting me to have time to spend say 2 hours a day and more, and it takes that, I run a program, have a relational database, things to consider. Not necessary, but the "you got it post" I did for you on reply to Q160 took 10 minutes, it would have been 20 -30 error-checked and all. PLain old hand-typed text with no colors or fancy stuff to make it more fun is not necessary, though, it could be handled much less structured on the responses, been leanin that way anyway ! Good idears, as the U.K say so well !

Re: GL Lyrics fan(atics) fun quizzers and more !
Hands would be very good indeed. There are a lot of theme options. I'd suggest if the group likes the idea we start a new thread -- and keep this one you've got going as you have it structured. Hands, birds, fish, geez I just returned from my Sunday morning jog with GL on the iPod and Sea of Tranquility is full of critters I know this thread takes a lot of time on your part. Happy to help get a new one going! Thanks.

Ron...lol... are you tellin me that...lol (pardon the mention Ladies, no offense meant, just gotta raz the star-bellied sneech) Jenney ! andOh,Linda! intimidated you in your town.... must'a been Calamity Jenney, and Oh,NOmoreLEADlinda! , then, in disguise......lessee here,
Oh - seriously Ron, I have heard of Archie before, once previously under very unpleasant circumstances...who's that ? A Gord-slinging friend of her's ?,
Actualy, thats none of my beezwax, I might ask her directly as a gentleman, we don;t talk behind the lady's backs... she did do some mighty-fine clue-slinging. Closest I can recall is an older actor who specialized in this gamebefore it was well known...... Clue Gallagher...... a hahahaha lol
I believe the ladies stand just fine on their own two feet, no need for "help from a man' (tip 'o the hat - no offense again ladies, speakin well of ya) - you think maybe they both did it on their own.....merit and knowledge.... I say thay did". people in the Sundown Saloon stand up from their clay chip poker games, ( seems some revenge-seekin lady name Charcame thru declarin this county both no tin-horn card-sharkin for reals -wait thats marbles..for money, and a no smokes town as well... must a been the U.S. Marshall Char I been hearin is ridin in these parts, I'm the law in this little town....unles of course..she's a callin me out....."
the bar patrons further push their chairs back further, even though they'd allready lined the wall... just for effect.....
anyways Ron, I say the ladies CAN hold their own in here, and they got all greenhorns at words, clues, and a 'cypherin got both black-snaked ( non offensive old West term) and run the guys playin out a this thread on a rail they was a makin their plays so well...
.me.... I say they don't need no sidekick to play well..aayre you a-challengin me again Pilgrimm..er Ron ? ( there are no chairs to push back any further, so the Piano player stops his er-bleadin' same four songs with the busted middle-C key for effect)...." you gonna yank that smoke wagon Ron, or just talkin air... ?"........... Ron starts sweatin a bit on his brow...all of a sudden very self-concious of how non politically correct he is a soundin'....and says.." You're just lucky you ain't posted those 10 songs yet greenhorn...cause I say you only pack 6 songs in that spin-dog Colt"... Geo taps his tie-down thoughtfully... " Be that as it might of been.... , I'll be back packin' ten Ron...and I'd make myself right with the ladies while I'm a gone for a little clue whittlin, and Heck'll be ridin behind me....(and Jekyl, wait thats too early on Saturday)and I won't be a packin' no 6-words...10 I say, so, Go I say (wait thats Ricardo Montalban)...Yahear Pilgrim ? ya best let that burn in REAL good' "...(That's better...) ......
....." I'll be back", Geo said in an odd California-Austrian blend accent, and somethin about bein bad to the last drop ( no thats MAXWELL's house down the alley).to the last Bones...yeah thats it... wait thats stardate 3212.687 one decade earlier on T.V...seeins its Kurt Russle playin Geo, sayin Heck'll be ridin with him...back with a full barrell of 10 words in a bit to protect the good townsfolk :" on Dollar !" er.. Silver !... whatever hmm I'll be baack"

OK GOOD TOWNSFOLK, I HAVE TEN CLUES HERE AS PROMISED ! Note: if you didn't have a chance to see all of Saturday and Sunday's pages 15 &16, they'll add a lot of context to notably the written comments in this post of new clues. A lot transpired on page 16 in particular, but both 15 &16 are useful to catch up if you want from the bulk of Saturday and Sunday; ideas, new thread, resolution of Q's 157-160, etc.
Be careful on 166,169, & especially 170 - almost surely not the songs you'd think at first. Not meant to be tricky, just they ( 166 &169) have definate ambig's - thats not so bad ? I'll further help by telling you 170, without an ambig as given that I know of per wording and dots... harkens wayyy back, not all players, even staunch all "20" album fans - remember that number started with UA. Ended with Linus Records, but his solo albums did begin before the "20"....and THAT related old album, a Lightfoot album, versus other duo pursuits around the same time - but NOT ambig per wording and dots...on Q170 is guaranteed to first call to mind a 1986 or so...solo....on stage..., and the LP recorded of it back maybe 4 years earlier or so....THAT song that will come to mind, isn't IT.....go back about 20 years
That's the most I can start you with on the hardest (I think) -"ringer"- Q170, without removing the challenge alltogether. I've given this out of respect for those who may not have this ...song or album and CD, among the hardest to find of his..but LP-recorded. Licensed "offical release" under a label name I'd not heard until I received it recently as an extremely kind gift. Hope all that helps.
This particular song I believe he would, in a moment not unlike his compassionate, but still frontier justice solution to a relatively recent squabble-settling with, I believe, family of an old friend and colleague of his; as reported in media anyhow, and corfid legend. I believe this one ringer he'd do the same 'thing" to it if found lol, that he did ostensibly to the frontier solution to the other spoken of ! That either helps, or put it out of mind completely, you'll know which if it rings as enlighthead'ening to you right away or not.
THE LIST OF 10 NEW SONGS; Q's161 - 170:
This set of clues is quadruple checked. lol .
Spelling, caps, dots, even Ron's informal, comma, rule, are correct.

Q170....like turpentine REMAINS UNANSWERED
Also, keep an eye out for Oh,Linda's new thread she thought of while listening to 'puttin all Gord's music in rotation'. While doing this, and hearing them in a whole new way, listening while jogging in her IPod for among other things, purposes of this game preparedness, and the preponderance of themes as was discussed yesterday and a lot today - be sure to see all the posts Saturday and today.
If you haven't, and catch all the speculation from many of us - notably Oh,Linda!, who after hearing the "Hands" lyrics preponderance from Char I mentioned to her, she listened to all the 'critters" as a theme potential too in 'Sea of Tranquility', talked in a few posts above on page 16 anyway if this posts over to 17, and has opted to take our encouragement, and do a whole new thread game, themes related, and I , for one, am looking forward to playing it - she's sharp, too on lyrics, if she does it off the top of her head rules... no matter, it all sounds great to me !.
HAVE FUN !
