Well I just had to give this one an answer.
While "Lavender" could be about whomever Gord was with at the time,I would bet that it's just another great song about love and that very special woman that makes it worthwhile. "Approaching Lavender" could simply mean falling into a kind of love that is soft & sweet. That's my take. Later!
