Gordon doing "Farewell to Nova Scotia"

Is there any album or CD, maybe a Canadian only release where Gordon does "Farewell to Nova Scotia"? It's one of my favorites and I heard him do it in concert but have yet to see it on any album or CD.

I think it was done at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965 but I'm not sure if it was released...

It's on Get Together, one of two bootleg LPs released in 1979 by Koala Records. The recording is from his 1965 performance at La Cave. As far as I know, that is the only sound board recording of the song, although there is at least one mid-90s audience recording as well. It's the one non-original song I really hoped would be released on Songbook, but the decision was made - by Lightfoot - to limit the boxed set to original songs. I still hope that someday we'll get an official release of Nova Scotia Farewell.

As far as I know, there is no recording of Lightfoot's 1965 Newport performance available. Hamilton Camp performed that same afternoon. Although there were recordings of many Newport performances released on vinyl and later on CD, I don't think that anything from either of those two performances ever made it out.

I have twice asked Gord about this and his reaction was more or less that he only knows the version and arrangement used by Ian and Sylvia and was therefore reluctant to copy it. I well recall a fantastic "stomping" version (i.e. far more oomph than the La Cave performance) that he sang live on a BBC television show back in either 1971 according to Wayne's site at:- http://www.lightfoot.ca/tvappear.htm

I, so far, have the only version of Farewell To Nova Scotia. It's a concert version, of course!
