Well. What can you really say at times like these?

I first saw him with Johnny Carson around 1979-1980 when I was finally allowed to stay up later.

I watched him with Dick Clark and the hilarious Bloopers & Practical Jokes show on NBC.

I tuned in to Star Search on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

......and like anyone who watched The Tonight Show between 1962 and 1992,his into of He-e-e-e-r-r-re's Johnny is something that will stay with us always.

Rest in peace Ed...and give Johnny a big hug.

I wasn't too terribly surprised to hear that he had passed away. I expected it to happen at anytime as he was terribly ill for such a long time. What gets me is the vitual lack of coverage of his passing, almost as if he didn't matter. Carson & McMahon were the funniest things going for me when it turned 10:30p.m. I used to drive my mum nuts during the week as I'd sneak out of bed & turn the t.v. on just so I could watch The Tonight Show. As I see it, the man had a lot of class, even to the end. I seriously doubt that there is anyone else like him today.

I'm with you there!

The role of a straight man is not at all easy and Ed played it to perfection, from the sidekick to Carnac to the "EVERYTHING you'd want to know about (whatever) is in that book."... He also knew Carson's personality so well that he could instinctively set him off on something funny. He will be missed.

Actually your comment about not enough coverage brings me back many years ago when Roger Miller died. He was a great man and hardly got notice at all.

I know what you mena about the lack of coverage.

The news tells you about it,shows some clips, some commentary by tghose close to them and then that's pretty much it. Conan O'Brien made a nice tribute on his show,so at least there was that .

It's seems to have become a complacent topic when a celebrity passes on anymore. Unless of course they have the stratospheric fame of say Elvis,Michael Jackson or on the acting side John Wayne or Paul Newman.
