Christmas Carol/Song compilation suggestions
I used to compile a CD of holiday faves but couldn't find any 'new' recording I enjoyed last year so I skipped the idea...I usually stick with an acoustic and voice production if possible and stay away from percussion and David Foster fanfare, lol...i just checked out Anne Murray samples and nothing jumped out...i do also like new compositions...I enjoyed hearing a Marc Jordon duet one called Every Time it Snows I think of You...heard it studio live on radio yesterday, nice stuff
...any suggestions?
also, any favourite Choir recordings? we used to go to Toronto St Paul's and sing Christmas eve and always enjoyed playing the cassette tape sold at the door but it has been lost...I was hoping to digitize it or something similar - so much to choose from
btw, my fave Christmas song is the Coventry Carol

Re: Christmas Carol/Song compilation suggestions
thanks nightengale lovely, sounds like it's in that Loreena McKennitt, Sarah Brightman, Enya styling...i have never heard of this artist, a real scoop
char, i listen to very few male voices so we're quite a pair, lol
clint and wife have always had that all American image to me, slick
i don't think he can go 30 seconds without that grin creepin out
Brokop also has nice version of Mary Did ya Know...she's now hitched, eh
i was just watching an old John Denver holiday vhs with Mattea and Patty Loveless playing tunes in a country cabin...if you like Mattea's voice you might like Mary Chapin Carpenter and her holiday CD has a nice feel throughout
i can't find a sample of Mattea singing Merle Travis' "Dark as a Dungeon" ...that new album of hers could do well at the Grammys, quite an activist now
thanks! CD is coming along, quite a song variety, hardly any carols
edit: ok, i found the Dark as a Dungeon sampler...that's version is even too country for me...wild dogs in the distance began howling, lol

I have that ideo of John Denver and Kathy Mattea at the ski cabin. I have several Mary Chapin Carpenter CD's as well. Saw her with Lyle Lovett and John Prine a few years back..She's a great songwriter.
I'll check out the XMAS CD..

Re: Christmas Carol/Song compilation suggestions
Here's a Christmas album from Cindy Mangsen, with Anne Hills and others. I would make clips, but I would have to open one, so I don't know if I will do it, but suffice it to day that anything from Cindy and Anne, and the musicians they work with, is excellent acoustic music.

Re: Christmas Carol/Song compilation suggestions
Has any artist ever included "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" on their Christmas Songs/Carols album of covers ?

Re: Christmas Carol/Song compilation suggestions
Is it just me or does anyone else just get totally amazed by how,in most clips,Andy Williams sings in a manner that appears virtually effortless??
Amazing voice for appearing to be such a simple man.

Re: Christmas Carol/Song compilation suggestions
I've always loved the 'cool and easy' way Andy sang and spoke..he made it seem so easy.. He's a natural talent and always seemed like a truly lovely man..
