Vote for Oh Linda's "one giant sentence rule" !!!

"Where will you be, my friendly, when your"

That's not a lyric, it's a partial lyric, and completely violates the "dots rule".

Seems like that gets mentioned in Pride Of Man. Something about a 'pyre of flame', so not only does it rhyme, it appears to have the same meaning as 'fire'.

CHAR Hi !

Note: if you're feeling confidant on the few real "rules" in the game, and not trying to remember some -such as with infrequent players, new players, or just plain forgot a few etc., - skip down to the yellow "onward to the game" - otherwise - for a couple refreshers to enjoy the game more, please read the following:

BTW Char per a few Q's I see you had posts below, no new "rules" - they're all by democratic process now, and the only change fundamentally was like 100 threads back. The dot rule -Hesitate to call it that - is only meant as a help to you , which the fast (frequent - daily) players make quick use of is all. Point isn't to demand conformance, were here to have fun ! ,its to help figgerin' out.

Same idea in songs no changes, the first song that works with the dots and clues- verbatim, no contractions, sound alikes, etc, wins it, intended song or not ! Dot help-rules re-iterate (short version)

Q997....cool word(s).... - means clue word's- verbatim, no contractions or
sound alikes, are in the middle of the verse line
Q998....cool word(s) - the clue word(s) are at end of verse line.
Q999 Cool word(s).... - first word capped first letter - the word(s) are at
beginning of the verse line.

The above "helpful things" will effect several of the submits today. It'll come
back 2U and be automatic. like Ron correctly pointing out what he did below
.

Only new thing - Jesse gave me 2 claps on lol (that didn't come out right) is the (hear the song in your head "Big Bad John" -melody) BIG X. That now adds the X to the list of original clues by each song, and at each successful post automatically - and satisfies a request ( a rule ) you had for a very helpful it turns out clue as to whats outstanding left to play. Thats it !

Just wanted to bring ya up to date, and maybe some of that ole' enthusiam will return when you play ! - BTW - on the clue of "turpentine", did ya see my caution (help 4 U ) as to NOT using the song from the early 80's - go back 20 - 23 years, thats a bigggg clue, to the tuffy in the list. Collectors bonus it really qualifies for, but the B1 clue convention threw everypone in a tizzy - except the rock-steady regulars -

like Joveski; he reminds me of a famous alpine climber named Reinhold Messner, (this is a compliment, Joveski )who was my climbing instructor's partner on big walls for years, - when asked if he preferred climbing in warmer, moist air above 32F, or arctic cold like - 40F and DRY air - insulation doesn't sweat up , BIG CONTROVERSY in the gear industry - his response laconically and calmly : "It makes no difference, all climbing is good. No matter yes ?" Course, Messner died in the Himalaya, alone, in the cold, in the dark. Like Hemingway would describe Citizen Kane's passing and his Rosebud sled....-sigh- Oh well
He climbed solo and no oxygen in the death zone - in the 23,000 ft and up range Point Being - no matter all the histrionics we may go thru over rules we think are there, but aren't, or should be, or whatever, Joveski just plays on - and has fun !

Onward to the game now !

Oh, Linda comments re: ....throng....

Oh,Linda! , I took your reply as a comment in general at first. but if you want me to run it, Just holler !

Quote:
I'd say Redwood Hill but I don't think the dot rule works here geo Steve.
So nobody goes off-track, I should tell u all right now the ....throng.... versus dots "rule" - lol... boy that dots rule chaffs me 2 lol - for a different reason - its meant to be a help - and allow for the very means by which you can submit an ambig and win it, otherwise, no dots, then it would be only the intended song that wins it, which of course is NOT the case now - ambigs CAN WIN IT, otherwise, - no fun !- its just meant 2 b help, but yes, answers must conform to if it unless I am wrong... but for whatever song you've in mind for throng - reconsider what you think what works and what doesn't - the base data I've imported for the prog I run, for lyrics is: Lighfoot! Wayne Francis site - I call it the "gold" site ! anyhoo - in so far as Wayne is correct, and Gords unusual lyrics spacing may not conform to your ears - which I commend u for using , instead of lookin up - we ought to revisit that rule anyway.... but by that std., throng and my dots are in fact correct - 2 help everyone on that - use the dots that way I assure you - 4 whatever song you've found them in - there is one where it works - - I am not ruling out any song at the moment- meaning i am not saying it isn't redwood hill ! I assure you the dots are correct.

Oh,Linda, if you want me to run this as your submission, I will, I wouldn't hesitate based on concern of the dots - that I AM sure of.

OH - and Char - I am in processing songs as I write - your turpentine will be out in a moment. I commented on it in response to "tin" - think back to around 1963 everybody - pre-UA !!!!

Update - as you see, it is out now. More tomorrow

TURPENTINE
From: Knotty Pine

She cries turpentine.

(one of the oddest words he uses in a song..lol )
NOTE: IF YOU WANT TO SKIP THE FOLLOWING TALKY-TALK - GO RIGHT TO
Back to Lyrics BIZ
BELOW

Char, just thinking about your comment on turpentine, and how odd it is to use in a song by Gord, it struck me as: thats funny, seems to make sense to me that he sings "she cries turpentine" when he seemingly is comparing a tree to his girlfriend, or a metaphor between the various combinations there lol.. and he mentions turpentine coming out of the tree, as if it (she) were crying...made sense to me in context, -however unappealing for a prosaic song element lol...because thats where turpentine as a classic thinner comes from, typically, older uses for paint thinning, and uniquely I think from the balsam in your neck of the woods - a variation that dries like glass, comes from: trees -(one of several sources, trees, certain bushes, and synthetic "petro-based turp", but notably . one variation that I recalled from Lumber days (THATS why it seemed predictable in a song about trees...) is the Canada Balsam, hopefully not boring, but of brief interest given your nationality, from WIKIPEDIA:

Quote:
Canada balsam, also called Canada turpentine or balsam of fir, is a turpentine which is made from the resin of the balsam fir tree (Abies balsamea).
and maybe two more sentences from WIKI is bearable lol :

Quote:
Some uses include:
in optical technology to glue together optical elements such as two prisms to form a beam splitter, or two lenses;
to fix scratches in glass (car glass for instance) as invisibly as possible.
Mr. Science Wizard: that....is AMAZING ..lol.... not... but thought the Canada Balsam would catch your Patriotic side
BTW, isn't that a weird optical illusion, when you combine red & white, with a blue background, the red seems to lift off the screen higher than the white...Not all people see it, I mentioned it once to Jesse Joe, but I don't think he saw my post, which I did maybe a month after his. Do you see it ? The concept, believe or not (groan) has been used in Cartography for years on glossy media, and you WANT the red map element to be prominent. AMAZING ! sound of -pin dropping- clink....sorry

-oh well. science show...maybe if we are all good they'll play more tomorrow from Mr. Science Wizard, one of my heros as a child, as was the professor on Gilligan's Island - boy did I like that Marianne..... ayyyee

Song submitted:Knotty Pine would take it if it worked with clue as an ambig, but:
Lyrics as submitted:She cries turpentine doesn't incoporate "like" turpentine...
....REMAINS UNANSWERED - I'm sorry Char - remember the "like turpentine" , and at the end of the lyric verse - you might have the 1986 versus 23 years earlier clues mixed backwards as you think of it - hope that helps.... off of the head is hard on ones like that, but that "like" is pivotal, as is 1963 +/-

Don't worry Ron , lol.. I won't accept any answer that does not conform to OUR (the whole group that voted one 'em way back...) rules - THE dots...lol. That goes for everyone to be fair - see the turpentine submission - I hate telling people when they have guessed that it is NOT the song I've incorporated into the game, I'll take ambigs, but the DOTS HAVE TO WORK - as you are correctly pointing out.

Its just a game ! Have fun everyone.

I mentioned Knotty Pine might not/probably wasn't the answer because of your clue that it was a long time ago... and that it was an odd word only because you usually don't find it in songs..even if it is wholly appropriate to the subject of trees...just an observation of the word itself not the meaning pr application..

How about the answers for GLASS? TIN? FRIENDLY,WHEN YOUR ??
correct or no??

Song: Does Your Mother Know

Lyric: But the letters that you write
In the faded winter light
Just tell her, they tell her
That you've got ten dollars and you'll be all right
And when you get straight you're gonna come back east some day

Here are the lyrics to Pride Of Man... SU&DIL

Pride of Man, ©1964 by Hamilton Camp

Turn around, go back down, back the way you came
Can't you see that flash of fire ten times brighter than the day
And behold the mighty city broken in the dust again
Oh God, the pride of man, broken in the dust again

Turn around, go back down, back the way you came
Babylon is laid to waste, Egypt's buried in her shame
Their mighty men are beaten down, their kings have fallen in the ways
Oh God, the pride of man, broken in the dust again

Turn around, go back down, back the way you came
Terror is on every side, though the leaders are dismayed
Those who put their faith in fire, in fire their faith shall be repaid
Oh God, the pride of man, broken in the dust again

Turn around, go back down, back the way you came
Shout a warning to the nations that the sword of god is raised
On Babylon that mighty city, rich in treasure, wide in fame
It shall cause thy tower to fall and make it be a pyre of flame

Oh God, the pride of man, broken in the dust again
Oh thou that dwell on many waters, rich in treasure, wide in fame
Bow unto a god of gold, thy pride of might shall be thy shame

Oh God, the pride of man, broken in the dust again

And only God can lead the people back into the earth again

Thy holy mountain be restored, thy mercy on thy people Lord

We're spiraling into chaos.

Maybe geoSteve should only post 3 "Fun Quizzers" at a time. That way, there might be less confusion, and his workload would be drastically reduced.

OK guys - just got back from Denver real life...sorry my time doesn't permit immediate turn-around I'm doin good to log in maybe 3 x a day and adress as much as I can as quickly, and carefully, thoughtfully as I can. Am workin away now as I "speak". CHAR, your point on Lightfoot's (versus other writer) cover of ''Pride of Man' is well made.... I will always defer to agreements on sundry issues as they were stated , unless democratically, they have changed over time - which this one, has not. There is a precedent - we've done Peaceful Waters, etc, and on Susan's Floor, but that does not change what you correctly point out. Consequentially, all that is fair is then to say who indeed said Pride of Man first, call 'em a winner, as everyone else, and maintain strict adhenrence to the not-considered old rule of "Lightfoot's Lyrics" - only. You're right, ma'dam Doctor Char ! My apologies to all your excellent efforts in Pyre et al, you all worked so hard. That indeed is the answer, and had been.

Oh, Linda! - Roger that, Houston, will proceed as indicated by you as a sumbission, which you'll be glad of

Sorry Char on my intended to be helpful talky-talk on Turpentine - I thought the Cnadian Balsam might be of a modicum of interest to a Canadian native was all, and Tin has been ruled on for your sumbission. I will look for all others...sorry bout that chief....glass is pending, all in chronoligical order submitted...do you like the "Big X" solution I progg'd into the game for each submission and simultaneous update of the original listing of ten, arguably redundant, but, should cover your good suggestion to do a reminder with clues as to status of "whats left" as we go. You like ?

Jesse, Shut-up, OhLinda, et al am workin away right now.... I sure wish I could answer as your submits are input ! More fun for U guys if I could... but as we've seen, especially lately as all are getting so much acumen on the "rules" of help, and play for fairness, everone is geting very in tune to detail on adherence - great , as long as it pleases you guys, lately , I'd sensed a need for more lax enjoyment. but I do believe anything that adds to fairness is good, will tighten up..thanks for all the good input.

Ron, you advice, and submissions have been a pleasure, thank you. In adherence, no worries.

Hang in there on your submits, am doing 'em right now. Won't trouble you innappropriately with personal details that can take me out of reply-ability for 1/2day, etc... I love this game and hope y'all still do to...workin hard right now.... BRB one by one... BTW you guys like the lists of ten versus 6 ? I do - from my end - and it can keep you guys up for longer, til I reply..

Ohlinda - you open shop yet ?

C U shortly all woth replies...

Ron ole' baddy - only chaos is in anxious players - I understand. But the program has advanced enough, and BIG X" et all improvements - I switched to 10 songs to help keep you guys have more fun while I process, but as you point out Ron, in a way, throttling back to 3 -6 songs would in fact reduce my work load. (time) to your enjoyment..
problem was with 6 - you guys ate 'em up quiocker than i could *error free* eval them...its a double edged sword, but as in all things lyric game, i will go with consensus....
but your guys fun as well is my main concern - my methods are speeding up in program efficiency and MO of my end... but Ron.... put it to a consensus - I'll abide - I trust you to be offical vote taker - my experience is few ppl vote on things brought up - course I bury mine in blabberty-blab lol.....

I vote with Ron. go back to nice breakdown of tens..--- 5 songs.....at a time.
Players - you'll have more fun - trust me - if you TRUST the dots.... 4 errors now in 400 posts.... 995'tile - 6 sigma - thats mmm not a so badda...lol

trust 'em.. don't worry - b happy - and my lyrics - I guarantee they are correct in so far as dots work with 'em - in so far as Lightfoot! by Wayne Francis' site is correct - my check 'em basis before I post new clues.... and he comes pretty highly reccomended.....so. while we will ALL have human error...go ahead and submit that which you would therwise speculate on....run 'em thru - as OhLinda did on Redwood Hill - thanks Ohlinda - pending - quick one too ! how we hear 'em in our heads, versus Lightfoot's interesting and much written about rhyme within a verse makes it sound like shorter lyrics lines, when in fact they are highly variable but in the cases brought up the last 2 days - dots/clues/lyric compatibility is correct.... phew lol enjoy ! BRB WITH some results
