Re: Orillia is holding a birthday party!!
ahh, i've posted a new version of the poster from the Town
we have a diversified tribute band....each of us had a different reason for forgoing the honour/opportunity to help celebrate by performing during the heart of the weekend
the idea was around for a while but by the time the ingredients were whipped up, schedule conflict was probably the ultimate issue...happy birthday Gordon!
i could only find video sample of one of the other tribute acts member's
http://www.justin.tv/openfolk/b/335731409
btw, i jested that perhaps a Neil Young tribute act could fill in for us
clarification to Ron Jones*
the Gordon Lightfoot Tribute Band (aka John Stinson & co) is not performing

Re: Orillia is holding a birthday party!!
that video just showed lead guitarist (he is backup singer, not lead) ...here is the well seasoned and friendly looking, lead singer, Adrien www.thecircleissmall.ca
his tribute was apparently previously called Salute...maybe some e-guitar?

Hey JJ.
Thanks for the heads up re.... unfortunate, but I understand.
Orillia town is "just up the street" from were I live now.
Was looking forward to this one. Hopefully others will manifest.
You know I will always be there.

Re: Orillia is holding a birthday party!!
hey, Ron...i told the committee about the time we had 3 generations of GL fans all playing tunes as a trio over at my place ...Kenyon, you and I...all 20 years apart...that was a tribute to GL right there and spoke volumes
i told a Coles notes version of your legacy and that you really should be there, but this is unfolding as a cool event assembled, attended and performed by locals...a true hometown party, except I am not sure if Gord will make the trek
i forwarded the SFAWN you did solo on Grenville Island... i dig that so much
hey, these boys know and perform 120 Gord songs...that's up in your league!

Re: Orillia is holding a birthday party!!
just to clarify the Subject (i know char knows) for others, the party is not for Orillia's birthday but for Gordon's 75th... the town is holding a party with or without him
I actually don't know when Orillia's birthday is.... or my own hometown's, for that matter!

Hey JJ, Thanks so much for this. Sure helps the aging process move along much more smoothly!
I'm Orillia bound for this gig. Really looking forward to hearing "Circle is Small."
If the the urge arises maybe a stab at the open mike gig at "Apple Annies."
"Let the games begin."

Re: Orillia is holding a birthday party!!
wow, Ron...tempting to go up ...wife and kid spoke of wanting to go up because weather seems ok... but it's tight with even one along and the big keyboard... i'd prefer guitar to jam, takes up less space but would throw in small PA just "in case"... i really tried to find an old piano they might already have up there so didnt have to haul and put down backseat...you know they have the piano that Gord first took lessons on waiting for a destination from donor? too cool..but not in time for this year...will wait word from the rest of the troops...otherwise please enjoy and safe travels... maybe we would stay over...but do have a have sunday party ...this should have been lined up a good while back, ugh

Re: Orillia is holding a birthday party!!
regarding the Orillia Party news article on the museum: (its in other thread for birthday wishes)
it doesnt sound very gord like to start writing on someone's sleeve and making an egocentric comment...maybe more to the story (like he had asked earlier)
its too bad Ron didn't get to sing at the Open (apparently Closed) Mic and the few good seats at the big night venue were reserved for band kin/pals... feel so bad for him trekking up to support it all, but gladder than sad that we passed on the initial pressured propositions... well, they got nice weather
we should have sent a pic of Orillia-era Gord to round off the 50 years on the Cakefree Highway.... i hope they are able to courier him a big slice...fatten that boy up!
hey, should have included the link to corfid bday greetings to the newspapers

Re: Orillia is holding a birthday party!!
It does seem out of character for him to do that...just write on someone's shirt...odd.
I didn't think he'd head up to Orillia but after he called me on Thursday and said he had just told the Mayor of Orillia that he couldn't make it due to lots of family celebrations I knew it was not going to happen..
They had great weather for sure as did TO for the (Ford-free) Santa parade.

huh? i thought he was gonna be in a beard, on the sleigh (tossing more bobbleheads
if they celebrate next year i'm sure an audience and band friendly venue can be found... char, there is photo of display case at Facebook... quite modest
Wayne has chart showing any value for vinyl, not sure if signed or unsigned is worth more.... Gord signature not rare so likely better unsigned if one is into speculation rather than the commemorating of the actually moment it was singed and one shared their space with Gord Two Tones LP is likely rare
lastly, there is article of Crista involved in the auctioning of items from Jessie home in late 90s.... i dont know why some of that stuff didnt appear for this
one day having Gord's Quebec table would be as coveted as the B-45 or D18 or whatever.... but nothing quite as valuable as the red or blue velvet blazers

Re: Orillia is holding a birthday party for LIGHTFOOT!!
I saw that photo of the display case..I'll put it up if I can find it..
I have a pic from 2002 of a store front with more in it than the museum probably had...
