Default Borderstone : 10 Years As A Lightfoot Fan

Hey all! Borderstone coming to you on a Tuesday night. I'm on a borrowed PC at the moment, that's why I'm posting at night (10:25pm) AZ time.

I'm stopping in because this Sunday will officially mark my being a Gordon lightfoot fan for a decade!

I've told this story a few times when others have asked "How or when did you become a fan?" to all of us here. As a few of you know it was Aug. 7th on a Tuesday,2001 that I paid off my layaway on my "Songbook" purchase.

At the time,I really knew little about his music. Just the hits and few other songs and the only albums I had were IYCRMM,Sundown,COTS,S. Dream and Endless Wire, plus GG1. Sorry to say,I listened to them very little. I no longer recall why, just younger I guess. As I've also said,I heard the song "Sundown" at age 6 on Erie,PA Radio station WCCK in 1974.

When I took the Box Set home,I said to myself,"This better be worth $60.00",because that was a lot for me then. Also as some of you know,it was worth it. Nearly every song I was like,"WOW!l"

It was the more serious stuff and some later songs that threw me a bit. The 60s & 70s & early 80s naturally, hit me emotionally. Funny that after that epiphany,it took over a year and half before I found this site and all of you.

Since then,I've gotten all the albums, seen his show 4 times and met with him after 4 times. The first meet was "Whoa! It's really him".

Second was the pictures & autographs in 2007. Third and 4th,the first time I flew in a plane in Oct. 2008 for the Aguora Hills & San Diego shows. Brought to me by the good ladies of Corfid.

Of course the good side had to go with the sad but that's only natural, but I wont go into those things. Anyhow, hard to believe it's been 10 years. My 10th for this site isn't until Feb. of 2013 (or maybe Dec. 2012 when I was just a "peeper").

To Gordon and his fellow musicians who made the great albums and put on the great shows and to all of you. Thanks.

Grettings from tucson! I, too, am still awake. Congrats on your 10 years as a fan. I became a fan at 12 years of age, back in 1971. We had just moved and in my lonliness i found my mom's 1st gordon lightfoot album and listened to it for company. Gord has been my companion ever since. I first saw gord when i was in college and have attended many concerts since. i am sure i attended your first concert, as a matter of fact! Enjoy this anniversary of yours. I am glad you took a risk on the box set. It is indeed worth every penny you spent!

Congrats, Borderstone! I recall you always had a keen memory for dates and remembered key dates and times in your life. You would always visit the library to read this site and post. I remember being a fan of IYCRMM when it was a hit in 1970 and then buying the SSOL LP the next year. You weren't around for it but it was great from 1971 to 1977 knowing a new album would be out every 9-10 months or so. Then I got bummed out by the gap in releases between EW and DSR. Still, there was a new album in '82 and '83....those were fun times when Gord was prolific.
