(Toronto, Ontario) August 4, 2010 –The Board of Directors of Canada’s Walk of Fame announced today that its annual celebration of outstanding achievements by Canadians all over the world will be expanded to cover four days of music, comedy and film featuring some of Canada’s most popular and iconic performers.

The Canada’s Walk of Fame Festival, which has been financially assisted by the Ontario Cultural Attractions Fund of the Government of Ontario through the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, will include the annual induction ceremony (October 16), and will be held from October 14-17, 2010.

In all, over 50 performances will be announced for the festival, of which over 40 will be free, including a spotlight on 26 emerging music artists. Kicking-off the four-day celebration, on Thursday, October 14, internationally acclaimed singer/actor Paul Anka is set to perform his major hits at Massey Hall. Anka, who has been named the 21st most successful artist in history by Billboard Magazine, has achieved international acclaim having recorded more than 900 songs and 124 albums in five different languages.

Legendary singer/songwriter, Burton Cummings (The Guess Who) will take the stage at Massey Hall the following evening on Friday, October 15.

Multiple JUNO Award winner, Buffy Sainte-Marie will perform at the Elgin Theatre on Saturday October 16 and The Best of the Canadian Comedy Awards will round out the festival on Sunday, October 17 featuring Mary Walsh, Colin Mochrie, Don Ferguson, Roger Abbott and Debra DiGiovanni.

Tickets for The Canada’s Walk of Fame Festival begin at $45 and go on sale Monday, August 16 at 10 a.m. EST, through www.cwofest.ca.

“This Festival is a unique and unprecedented showcase of our home grown talent – one that allows greater opportunities for the public to enjoy and celebrate our artistic achievements,” said Peter Soumalias, President and CEO. “The goal of this four-day event is to not only honour some of the legendary performers this country has produced, but to also inspire the next generation of emerging Canadian talent. We are proud to kick-off this festival with a spotlight on nearly three dozen emerging artists. This is only the beginning.”

“The Canada’s Walk of Fame Festival is the largest undertaking in our history and a significant addition to our signature events that have included the Red Carpet Inductee Ceremony, the Tribute Show, the Inductee Charity Ball and the national broadcast on Global and Slice™,” said Mary Pompili, COO. “The timing of the Festival – October – will ensure that it is the marquee event in the city, and will attract a diverse and socially active demographic from Toronto and the surrounding areas, across the province and beyond.”

“Canada's Walk of Fame promotes our cultural achievements and attracts visitors to our province. Our government is excited to help expand the festival’s offerings and build on the tourism potential of this national attraction,” said Michael Chan, Minister of Tourism and Culture.

Sorry you missed it! I actually opted out of a Lightfoot concert, so I could make this trip to Massey and see Burton. LOL The concert was wild, Burton performed a few songs he hasn't done live in quite some time. The crowd was crazy, lots of dancing, and Security eventually just gave up for awhile. I was fortunate enough to attend a post concert party full of other fans he is familiar with, and Burton came by. How fun to hear his stories, and spend time with him!

How fun!! Burton is a born storyteller..whether he's just talking or singing one of his tunes there's always a great story.
I well remember the party/dance atmosphere of his concerts...total showman who gives till he drops.
He had some fun at a Raptors game too..shot of him in the paper with themascot and one of him walkng thru TO with his lovely battered blue leataher TOronto Maple Leafs jacket on and a poor boy cap..workin' the sunglasses and running shoes..totally incognito..
love the pics Vickie!
