The nearest town from here has a substantial population of hearing impaired citizens (sign conversations are common amidst mall, grocery store, sidewalk crowds). I just noticed a new store front promoting new classes for the hearing...something that might be kinda fun and potentially beneficial for the whole family to take on

Before jr learned to talk we learned some basic 'baby' sign language (I only found it minimally useful)...any one here fluent?

note: I happened to notice one old fella fiddle/turn up his hearing aid at the last 'low decibel' GL concert I was at...I was a bit envious...some fella could make a few bucks selling 'em at the door for GL concert goers

Not I, but I should be learning it. The day is coming soon when I'll need it.

So far, I only know one sign, but I do it VERY well. Everyone in traffic seems to understand it right away.

clarification: I was talking about ASL (American Sign Language)

rm, sounds like you are a master of USL (Universal.....)

My daughter Lisa is researching courses for ASL to take this fall. She took a few classes in high school and loved it.
At a daycare where I worked they used some sign language with kids who were being taught it at home. (just the basics tho) The two year old who sat and did the sign for "more" at lunch also had to say "may I have more please?" when I was on lunch duty. He was fully capable of speaking. One day he said to another kid who also did sign language, 'you have to use your words!' when he signed for 'more'..

With the other staff he used only sign language..good grief..

I don't drive but am very good at USL...

lol, that was the first sign i became familiar with...he never learned 'help' or 'thank you' or 'hurt' etc but he sure learned that one...i think that all kids in the western world know that sign...goodluck to Lisa!
