Default Town Hall NYC 27 June 2009

To access New York City this time instead of fighting the traffic by road we let the train take the strain, arriving early enough to make the ten block walk up Seventh Avenue to 43rd Street and in time to spend a pleasant period ensconsed in three of Mayor Bloomberg's chairs on the newly pedestrianised half of Times Square before having a splendid meal at the Belgian BXL Restaurant adjacent to the Town Hall

Theater, washed down by a superb Kwak beer in a traditional Belgian coachman's glass

Gezundheit!
In the auditorium we were pleased to meet up with Jenney, Bill Hall and Frank, and Eric Greenberg, before settling down for a full 25 song setlist
first half
1 Triangle
2 Cotton Jenny
3 14 Karat Gold
3 Sea Of Tranquility
4 Let It Ride
5 A Painter Passing Through
6 Spanish Moss/7 Shadows
8 Beautiful
9 Carefree Highway
10 Hangdog Hotel Room
11 Ribbon Of Darkness/12 Sundown
13 The Watchman's Gone
second half
1 The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzfgerald
2 Alberta Bound
3 Don Quixote
4 Clouds Of Loneliness
5 Waiting For You
6 Minstrel Of The Dawn
7 If You Could Read My Mind
8 Baby Step Back
9 Restless
As usual Gord deftly proceeded through the amazing verbal sequence of ironcast...ironclad...built to last... overcast..
10 Early Morning Rain
Written when he and his fellow students went out to LA Airport to watch the planes as a break from swimming
11 Song For A Winter's Night
encore
12 Old Dan's Records

Hello from NYC to all from SherylKat and MandoAnn! Ann will write later.

Just a quickie - the Band was in high spirits at Town Hall last night and absolutely out-of-this world excellent! The crowd was VERY APPRECIATIVE. Ann and I were so lucky - front row was so close to the stage that lots of us were resting our feet on the front wall of it. Ann almost DID to get sit right on Heffernan's lap! LOL (She's a wonderful keyboardist herself.) (We were Left of Center, then I saw an empty seat in front of Terry so I sat Right of Center for second part of show.) I see that Sir John has given you the set list, and Ann will fill you in on the musical nuances.

I think a fantastic time was had by all. I met a man around 50 who said this was his first Lightfoot concert and is now a huge fan - it's never too late! He didn't understand the capo obsession because he felt thst Band was so good they didn't need to use them - I tried to explain the Band's complete loyalty to the Shubb Company! The photo Nazis stopped me from taking pics. Got to see Sir John which was a pleasant surprise.

Let me be the first to wish you all a HAPPY CANADA DAY! "Oh, Can-a-da..."

Sheryl

Oh, p.s. to Char: Yes, it was the Shirley you mentioned. She brought down the house at the Riverboat Revival. We'll talk more about those wonderful performers. Ian Tyson is scheduled for three nights - those interested can check it out on their website.

Not much change in Mr. Lightfooy's pret-a-porter department (LOL) except Gord's got BEAUTIFUL NEW BLACK BOOTS! lol You never know, with his model-thin physique and bone structure, he might become the next model for Holt Renfrew! Never too late for a second career in case he decides to stop touring (yeah, on that day, I'm turning on the Weather Channel to confirm that HELL HATH INDEED FROZEN OVER!),

Cheers! Sheryl

It was pleasant and surprising to encounter the two ladies from California, Ann of the Mando-lin and Sheryl of the Kat,but disappointing to yet again miss John of the Blackberry, Also as at Westbury Leslie was not on duty but instead his side kick Greg did the honours
