Whats the Lightfoot theme...is there one..?
OK ...here is the question.
Does Lightfoot have a theme.....like perhaps J. Buffet has.
I just spent the night listening to GL ..had a few drinks ...my 22 year old daughter was in the basement having a party ...alot of rap sounding music...I thought that was over.
Of course Buffet is unique...i know.
But I've had a J Buffet party... its bikinis and margaritas....
I'd like to start a GL party ...whats the drink... whats the decore..whats the theme?

Hi John,
The drink is water. The theme is jeans, tee shirts , sports and music.

Re: Whats the Lightfoot theme...is there one..?
Hi DSR!
As far as the drink goes...do we all have to sober and abstainers?? a little something can't hurt. But the water response made me laugh and caught me by surprise.
But your response made me think...GL has done alot of river canoe trips around Canada and the world I think.
Thats the theme. Outdoors, river-running, !!
Problem.
Theres only one song that comes to mind about Rivers.
"river of Light"
John

I'd say the Gord theme is a glass of red wine by the fireplace...

Aww, don't forget 'Long River'.
"Where the long river flows
It flows by my window
Where the tall timber grows
It grows 'round my door
Where the mountains meet the sky
And the white clouds fly
Where the long river flows, by my window"

Re: Whats the Lightfoot theme...is there one..?
Or "Second Cup of Coffee"?
Seriously, he'd probably say the closest thing to a "theme" for him these days is "A Painter Passing Through."

Re: Whats the Lightfoot theme...is there one..?
Even though it's true that Gord and a few more of us have decided to stop drinking he's still performing the songs in concert.
As a big fan of "upbeat, uptempo Lightfoot" my suggestion is Blackberry Wine.
This one really sets the tone I'd say:
There's a south wind risin' and the moon shines on my window sill
I've got a feeling I might walk on over the hill
I'm bent but not broken, all I need is some rest
And a bottle of your very best
Blackberry wine
There's a new moon risin' and the wind sings its old song
Pass it on over it's a sin to be sober too long
I'm bent but not broken, all I need is my share
Of a bottle of that very rare
Blackberry wine
My old gal's got a new dress on five and dime
Try as she will she can't get me to come home on time
But I'd never cheat her or mistreat her you know
As over the mountain I go
Blackberry wine
I'll be soft spoken
All I need is my rest
And a bottle of your very best
Blackberry wine
Now my days are numbered and one more heel's been killed
Blackberry John left me his old recipe in his will
I'm bent but not broken, all I need is some time
And a bottle of your very fine
Blackberry wine
Blackberry wine,
You know that I'm quite dry without you
Blackberry wine
Bill

Re: Whats the Lightfoot theme...is there one..?
Okay, John you made me laugh too. Fast come back with Canary Yellow Canoe because that was the song I thought of first. It seems like a whole party could be fun with this theme. As for staying sober, that seems to be the choice for most of the people in my life. It's safer that way. Not to say a drink or two is something terrible, it's just that we get a choice. Ok, now let's go have a beer and settle down.

Re: Whats the Lightfoot theme...is there one..?
I seem to recall that he enjoyed Molson's Ale. But if guests will be imbibing, then food is a necessity. With Buffet, I assume cheeseburgers were on the main menu. For Lightfoot........I have no clue. Perhaps Rainbow Trout ?

Re: Whats the Lightfoot theme...is there one..?
I've done the Canadian/North On-tair-eye-oh wilderness thing - no desire to "do it again"..
romance never gets old.. nothing wrong with a 'party for two'..

Re: Whats the Lightfoot theme...is there one..?
fun thread
i think the Canada Dry suggestion it terrific...mind you, needs a deep ashtray to go with it
maybe an '08 resolution will have him on the Popeye brand
if your event happens, have a great one and have a whiskey of highland, or islay for me
guests should probably be in sailing shoes or performance sneakers
good health to Gord and all over the holiday and ever onward
