At the front end of "High and Dry" Gord says
"If it wasn't for love sick sailors all the rest of us would have been__________"
I'm at work so I'm doing this from memory so I think it goes something like the above. Kinda sounds like he is saying "floatsome".
You know those type of songs where you can't quite make the lyric and your mind plays scrabble.
Does anyone know the word?

Char,
LOL!
Ok, here's the plan. Have your people get in
touch with Gord's people and have a trivia
game designed all around Gord! That way, when we're all long gone there will be something left for future generations to go
with his music. Like Beethoven, Tennyson, etc. he is a classic and will stand the test
of time! Besides, I wouldn't mind having something like that RIGHT NOW! Hurry Char!

Silver Heels,
From the song "Unsettled Ways" from the "Back Here On Earth" LP, the answer is:
"Don't linger in time, don't finger what's mine."

Hey Char! Just wanted to say thanks. Only Gord would think to use such a word in song but, of course, that is what makes Gord so unique and special.

Please finish the following:
"I like you more than ...."
Once you've answered the above please do tell us all how much that is?

midnightmisty..."To Many..." is one heavy song.
What do you make of the following?
"At best it is said we've bin locked deep inside of an old seaman's chest full of charts where maps are contained and what's left of his brains when his crew fed his ______'s to the sharks.
All around the looking glass dancing to a tune.
Sweeping out the house with a fine tooth comb which history's shown leads to ruin.

Classicmixdj,
were you talking to me specifically? couldn't
tell.... but i've always liked the bawdy side
of Gord. but that's just me.
midnightmisty
p.s. I'm still trying to figure out your previous question: "I like you more than..."
this ought to keep me out of mischief for awhile. so my husband said to say "THANKS!"

Classicmixdj,
Is this correct?
"I like you more than half as much
as I love your Spanish Moss".
From "Spanish Moss", also on "Summertime Dream" LP. (great LP!)
midnightmisty back into mischief mode

midnightmisty...yep...yer' right.
The 2nd part of the question was rhetoric.
(how much that is?). How on earth could we answer it anyway. He says he loves her half as much as he loves her spanish moss. Since we know not how much he loves her spanish moss we know not how much he loves her. I've always thought that to be a tongue in cheek lyric and quite clever don't ya' think?

classicmixdj,
Yes! Extremely clever, actually! This isn't
"background music". There's so much going on
in much of this stuff that I've always wanted to JUST STOP dead in my tracks & just sit and listen..... and completely
absorb everything. It can invade & overwhelm
all my senses at times. I love it.

You know, if you were to turn a friend on to Gord "Summertime Dream" would be a great place to start. It's a work that shows off his writing ability quite well don't ya think.

classicmixdj,
Yes, I agree. "Summertime Dream" would be a great place to start - for some. But each Gord Lp seems to have a "flavour" of it's own! So I think I'd try to match up the individuals with the LP I think they could relate to and appreciate most. I'm just a
little matchmaker kind of person.

Hi guys! I just discovered this site yesterday. It is really cool! I've been at deja.com/usenet for a while and have a lot of trouble figuring it out. I feel like I'm wasting a lot of time trying to find recent posts, etc.
Anyway: THIS IS A GREAT GREAT TOPIC! I read all the posts and think it is a world of fun. Anyone else interested in keeping it going?

Here's another fill in the blank. Not especially challenging, but it highlights Gord's sense of humor:
"Any way the wind may blow, any way I _____________________,
I'll prove my love to you."
I just love that line!

Yes, I've always found that "stub my toe" line very amusing....it sounds like he was just really trying to find something to put in there and couldn't come up with anything and just said, oh, what the hell!
I love his sense of humor too, you really have to be tuned in to catch it.
When I saw him in NY on 8/9 ( which was great) when he did CRT he paused after "many are the dead men" for what seemed like an eternity...you could tell he was having fun with it...and just as I started to chuckle he finished the line. But it reallywas funny.
OK, here's one. I'm sure you'll know it but it's fun anyway. One of my (zillions of) favorite lines of his:
O say can you see, my best friend is me,
______________________________
I just think that's great! And there are so mnay others...

Ok I just got here and came to this one
It stumped me for a few minutes but then I
remembered. . . it's from A LONG WAY BACK
HOME and the blank is "I'm a friend I can
use"
Wow, I haven't thought of that song for so
long no less listen to it thanks. I just
put Disc 2 of the United Artists Collection
on the CD player and am now listening to #13.
Thanks.
Here's a contribution:

side of my mind, ___________________________.
