On auction today by a Vancouver BC seller is a shrink wrapped copy of the 1971 AME Early Lightfoot album which contains
nearly all of Gord's 1962 Chateau singles
Missing is "Day Before Yesterday"
as fully described by Valerie on a page linked from her bio page
http://www.gordonlightfoot.com/EarlyLightfoot.shtml
the sellers blurb says:-

Here it is, the infamous 1971 release of Lightfoot's early 60's, pre-United Artists recordings. The album is a collection of
singles Lightfoot did very early in his career for Chateau Records, before he had even established his folk identity. It was
released to capitalize on the success of If You Could Read My Mind and packaged to appear like a new Lightfoot album (cover
photo is circa 1971). Lightfoot tried to block the release of the LP and was unsuccessful so instead he bought as many copies
as he could and destroyed them - as legend has it, with an axe in his backyard!
Yes well as J-J will tell you there might be some confusion now over which actual album sufferred that fate and whether the
destructiion took place in Gord's backyard or near a dumpster/skip
I also realised only recently that in the Songbook booklet which includes of course a pair of the songs on this AME release
credit is actually given to AME on both page 52 "releaased on album Early Lightfoot AME #7000 (1971)"
and on page 37 where the acronym is shown as American Metroplolitan Enterprises
The auction blurb also features the largest scan I think I have ever seen of the entire LP sleeve
as a front and back montage at:-
http://www.chezgrae.com/ebay/lightfoot.jpg
Note anybody not yet having the good fortune to have songbook can read all the text in the fantstic
booklet at two locations:-
1 an archived set of the original Rhino Records web page:-
http://www.songbook.notlong.com
which will forward you to :-
http://web.archive.org/web/200303171...75802lin.lasso
2 the text presented by Wayne Francis at:-
http://www.lightfoot.ca/songnote.htm
which includes:-
"Chet Atkins put together a great backup band on those recordings that included Floyd Cramer and Grady
Martin. The general feeling was that the songs sounded too much like Jim Reeves or Pat Boone"
(The same famed Grady Martin had actually appeared earlier on the very first Nashville recording sessions by my other
musical hero Buddy Holly)

the relevant part of the inner liner notes'CD insert artwork of Volume 1
of the incredible 10-CD set "the Complete Buddy Holly"
compiled last year by a group of dedicated fans known as "The Purple Chick"
the complete artwork is a large (1646KB) jpeg at:-
http://www.bigomagazine.com/cdcvrsB/...mplete01in.jpg
the relevant text is:-
26 January, 1956:
Bradley's Barn Studio
- Music Row, Nashville, Tennessee
(Owen Bradley: producer)
Buddy Holly: vocal;
Sonny Curtis: lead guitar;
Grady Martin: rhythm guitar;
Don Guess: bass;
Doug Kirkham: percussion
the complete 10-CD Set is copiously described on bigozine2.com starting at:-
http://www.bigozine2.com/features06/BHcomplete.html
which contains this interesting opinion/statement
"But from the time his plane crashed till now, there have been many attempts to resell Buddy Holly.
But time is running short. In February 2009, all of Buddy Holly’s recordings will enter the public domain and be free to be sold by any music company.
Countries which are still governed by the Copyright Act that limits copyright to 50 years after publication include Europe
and Asia with the exception of those that have signed a free trade agreement with USA which extended copyright to 70 years."
If anybody other than Matthew Bullis is interested in geting this set please send me a Private Message
Warning that task is not for the faint hearted:-
My dial-up modem connection took all of 2 1/2 weeks to download the torrent files
