First of all,I want to say thank you to all of you. I live in the northwestern US (Washington), and NEVER hear news about GL. It was just this year that I learned he had been in the hospital. I found this website at work (during my lunch hour of course). And started haunting it for news of Lightfoot. He's been my favorite singer/songwriter for over twenty years. I finally got my own computer and though I'm not much of a joiner, I think I'll join you. It is amazing to hear so much about his music and find others who love it like I do. It's decidely odd, after being the lone GL listener for so long. It's a bit overwhelming, I'm practically drunk on it.
Thank you all for being here online.

Welcome, LSH!
It was the same for me. I am in the UK and believe me, Gord news is not only rare here, it's non existent! Like you, I thought I was the only one left who still loved his music. God Bless the internet for proving us wrong. Glad to have you aboard!

Welcome, welcome, LSH. For Gord's fans this place is like coming home. If you haven't already discovered it, there's also a discussion list, alt.music.lightfoot, where some of us post as well as here, but lately this is the more active site. Either way, you can get a daily Gord-fix of news, opinions, links to articles, reviews, etc.

It's nice to have a place where I can say the name Lightfoot and not have some fool say, "Who's that?"
Appreciate the welcome

I feel for you.
I have a friend in the UK who has no idea who he is. I even mentioned Daylight Katy (didn't that get some airplay over there when it came out?) and Sundown, but no go.
Of course, a lot of times, I get the same thing here.
But to be around me, in my house or in my car, is to hear GL. They get immersed, willingly or unwillingly, it's all the same to me. As long as I have my music.

Welcome!
this is a Gord - friendly house!
lol
Being in the Toronto area I am lucky enough to hear about things "Gord" in a timely fashion. Lightfoot music is as natural around my home as is oxygen. And just as important. I figure if Gord has been in my life for 34 of my 49 years then any one who enters my humble abode better get used to hearing his beautiful music. If not - they know where the door is!
lol

Thanks Char!
I think I'm still in shock at finding all the GL fans and info. I think I've learned more about the man in the last two months than the last twenty years. His music is intricately woven into the fabric of my life. Even my 19 year old son listens (he also listens to music that is unmentionable, but Gord holds his own against these screamers and rappers). How good to know that others feel the same!
I look forward to getting to know all of you and more about GL, of course.

Welcome LSH! I am new here as well. It's a wonderful place to be. Great people discussing a great singer/songwriter. That's what it's all about. I am still trying to soak it all in...

Laurel - my 20 year old son listens too - he has no choice unless he's in his room with that horrid stuff he calls music. he also does a nasty imitation of Gord that may one day wind up getting him kicked out of the house!
lol
When I "found" the internet and came across the Lightfoot sites.message boards I was gobsmacked. It was unbeleivable that there were actually other people who knew who he was! AND they weren't locals! They were from all over the world! It still amazes me!
lol
Having met many of the folks, had many of them in my home and travelled to meet up with them I must say that Lightfoot inspired people are the best people I have ever encountered.
Who could have ever imagined that 34 yeas ago when I bought a 45 of IYCRMM I would still be the fan I am today PLUS having made friends of so many other fans. AND the bonus is that our dear Lightfoot is STILL getting it done-making music, touring and making us want more. Bless his heart.
We're all blessed because of him. I can't imagine not ever having had him in my life...

My kid does love Lightfoot music..he should, he's been hearing since he was in the womb. lol
Ghosts of Cape Horn is still his favorite, although, IYCRMM and River of Light are big hits with him (I've about worn out that song on my CD..play it over and over and over..)I just don't know how he can stand the other stuff (shudder). Ever get tired of yelling, "Turn it down already!!"?

When I started reading this site, I thought, "At last, people that are my kind!" You're all just as nuts about Lightfoot music as I am. Amazing. and lovely! All you lovely obsessed people make my day! I KNEW I couldn't be the only one...
I've discovered that people either get it or they don't, not much middle ground. Maybe that's because he's Scorpio...who knows?

Stationmaster,
ah, you are the one I got the link to the Inspiration Lady video from. I was glued to the computer screen. After seeing it, I thanked you, and in my delirium, I think I also professed to love you. GL fever.
How could I not join this group after that?
That was the first and only GL video I have ever seen. We in the US and countries other than Canada are definitely Lightfoot deprived. What I wouldn't give to see those vid's from the Shadows album...second album I got after Gord's Gold. It was a new release at the time.

Hey LSH check out my post for INSPIRATION LADY Video. It has some links to some old and new CBC archive audio/video of Gord from 1960's - 2004.

Hi LSH (Lightfoot Sings Heavenly??) ! Welcome aboard! There can never be too many GL fans!

I'm Borderstone and I kind of had the same experience in finding this site. I "jokingly" at the time, went to Google and typed in Gordon Lightfoot and of course was surprised to see there were "any" sites.

I went to two (the one with the song list and one that was rather uninteresting.) Then I came here and read messages for a good while and still being kind of internet leary,I waited over a month before I left a message and then finallly I did register. So great to see that i wasn't alone in liking Lightfoot!

Only about 1 year & 1/2 before that did I become a real fan. I wish now I'd been a fan since 1974 when I first heard,"Sundown".

We hope to hear a lot from you and once again...Hi!

Well, I've never seen those videos either but if you haven't already done so, check out the CBC archives of Gord interviews. Here's a link: http://archives.radio-canada.ca/IDD-...don_lightfoot/

Enjoy!
