Does anyone know what this is about? I'm pretty sure I already know, but I always enjoy reading other peoples ideas and opinions, even when I'm sure I already know what the song is about. Besides, sometimes I might learn something about a song that I didn't know.

O.K., here's my take: I think from reading all the interviews GL has given, it's pretty clear that he *is* no ordinary man. First and foremost, he is a performer and everything that that entails. He feels driven to write and perform and do his best. Every time. All the time. He is a driven man. He's not ordinary. And while on the road, he misses the companionship of this particular woman, whether a real one or just a made-up one. I think you could classify Gord as a simple, yet, complex man. He has all the wants and needs of an "ordinary" man, yet, he has all the wants and needs of a driven perfectionist. God bless him.

This is probably my favorite Gordon song. That says a lot because I like everything he does. To me it is a song that applies to many people. Who wants to be ordinary? Who thinks of themselves as ordinary? Yet in our relationships with others we have a tendency to typecast people. He is telling the woman that he is not like everyone else but she may view him that way.

I was in high school when this song came out. It spoke volumes to me because I felt like such a misfit. On the other hand, I had no desire to be like other people. It has always been a song of encouragement to me.
