Come on, gang...GML is 65 now. We may never see him on stage or hear him on record again. In my view, I am grateful for the 30+ years of wonderful picture painting he gave me and a lifetime of music that will live on in his possible absence. Like all of you, I only wish him a 100% recovery. While I'd like to hear more and future emanations from Gord, I can live quite happily knowing that he's well and enjoying his later years and we, his legions, have his body of work to continue to inspire us. You know, these guys don't last forever...well, except James Taylor, whose voice and songwriting skills continue to improve. Go figure THAT one out. There are not many up there in that pantheon of amazing, awe-inspiring recording artists who hit an almost religious bone in us when we hear their work: James Taylor, Gordon Lightfoot, Paul Simon to name a few. We must be grateful to have lived in their time and we must count our lucky stars to have "digested" their music in their own current limelight so that we may continue to enjoy it for the rest of our lives. In that regard, I think the current generation is somewhat bereft. They just don't have the same sort of inspired words and music. That's not to say they get nothing from their rap and hip hop, but you know what I'm intimating. As they say about the 60's...if you remember them, you weren't there. Well, we all kind of remember them, and the best things, not the worst, are what we have taken with us into our 40s and 50s and beyond. Just want to say Thanks, Gord. For everything. I'll raise one later on to his good health and rapid recovery! Rick Chalek, Long Island, NY

Well, he's indicated that he's not ready to sit back and twiddle his thumbs if at all possible (health permitting.) If he DOES decide to retire, I'm sure we'll all be very happy for him to spend time with family and friends and just kick around.
That said, "ol' guy"??? That's relative. Granted he's no spring chicken, but neither am I, which may be why I question the "ol'" part. 65 (come November) isn't what it used to be - I think we had this discussion elsewhere. Somebody used to running 16K a week and working out 4 days a week at the gym has a lot of energy to draw on. Yeah, his illness undoubtedly took a heck of a lot of starch out of him, but he has the willpower, drive, and interest to keep on keepin' on. There's longevity on his mother's side of the family, anyway.

At least if Gordon Lightfoot did retire and say good-bye,unlike other artists,he would actually mean it and do it. I can't tell you how surprised I was when say,KISS, decided to up and start touring again! After Gene Simmons said it was definetly over for the group. I lost a bit of respect for them after that. Gord's not so old by the way, look at Chuck Berry! He's turning (or has turned) 76 this year and he still gets on stage! He can't duckwalk any longer but he still shakes it up a bit. Little Richard was here in Phx. last year and he just turned 70 last Dec. So,don't put Gord out to pasture yet,I'm sure when and if he does tour,it's not going to be an Endless Wire of cities but just a few well thought of stops (of which PHX better be one!) It's been the B! Later!
