My gut instinct says Harmony. Nicer production values and some excellent songs. Salute is fun, but it doesn't sound as full and his voice sounds more shallow. Also, the songs aren't as memorable. This is not to say I don't enjoy the album. There are also some wonderful songs on the album (whispers of the north, tatoo, etc.)

You disagree Watchman? Put on the song salute, and then listen to a track off Harmony. I stand behind my statement. I think it is the production values that create the effect?

Don't argue guys,a lot of music that came out in the '80s was "shallow". :D Top 40 radio (for the most part) turned into a more flash less depth wasteland. That includes studio production. Thankfully, there's better examples of '80s music out there....Gord's LP included.

Despite that statement,I choose Harmony. Upon release in '04,his best work in a decade.
We all know the other reason I chose it.

I'll go with Harmony on this one. The song selection is more in the style of his folk orientented albums, which just seems to mesh with his musical skills.

Ummm...Watchman? Your posts have just a hint of sarcasm, but you are not actually engaging me in any significant discussion. Saying that "Harmony is all over the place" actually says very little. Could you be more precise and address the issue? I can handle the idea that you like the songs off Salute better, but what about the sound of his voice. Don't you think it sounds thin? Again, for those who are sensitive about these things. I'm not criticizing Gord's voice here. I'm saying that the way the album is produced seems to take out the lower end sounds and so everything doesn't sound as full. So Watchman...are you going to say something interesting or are you just going to take shots at me?

To me his voice was it better shape on Salute. On WFY and Harmony, his voice sounds kind of ragged out. (Sounded better on A Painter, tho.)

Okay!.....Hold the phone here. He sounded better on "Painter"?

I mean no offense twords Gord or anybody when I say this, but on "Painter" he "kind of" comes across like a senior citizen bemoaning his age.
He also sounded "too" C&W. I'm sure he himself likes that music but he sounds better in folk/pop/rock or even adult contemporary than in C&W.

On "Harmony" he's back to his truest form. (Reminding myself that "Couchiching" is just for fun. :D ) The "live" tracks are engaging and the rest are his strongest vocals in sometime.

That's all I have to say o' that! Later!

I'm only talking about his voice . Then again, Painter is my favorite Gordon Lightfoot album.

Sorry that you don't find this interesting Watchman. I did find your response interesting. At least I have a better understanding about where you are coming from. Since you are ending the conversation, I'll just say that I hope we can engage in an interesting conversation on another topic in the near future.
P.S. You're still being sarcastic. Oh well, guess that's your style.
