I just got a couple of front row seats, for the Owensboro Ky show, April 30th of next year. For the first time I get to see him live. Any tips from experienced GL concert goers.

Well hopefully he will be back in action by then, if he is, if it is cold outside wear your winter coat inside the theatre and hide a camera in your pocket( that's how I got my pics that are on my website) even though the signs say no cameras, if ya wait til the 2nd half of the concert most ppl start clicking away.
Bring some ear plugs, cuz you'll be right in front of the HUGE speakers and you'll soon go deaf And oh ya as soon as the concert is over make a beeline to the backstage door and wait, in about 30-45 min all the guys will be walking out the door.

If venues are still selling tickets for the spring that certainly is optimistic? Has anyone heard any news on this topic? rbengals1, when did you purchase those? I had considered that show as I have relatives within driving distance but then sort of forgot about it when he went into the hospital. But I'm the ultimate optimist.

At the backstage door is there usually a big crowd? Does he take time to talk a bit to everyone or do you have to be pushy??? I don't do pushy...

I purchased the tickets on Saturday the 23rd, they went on sale the 22nd. I was thinking the same thing about the hosptal situation but jesus just the chance to see GORD, it was worth a shot. I was wondering about the camera info. Thanks for all the helpful hints.

Oma,
Crowd size after a concert isn't too big, just diehards and the usual folks who talk to themselves wandering about. Depending on the guards on duty you may have to step lively to the front of the line, not pushy, just gaily and merrily assertive. There's a difference. jbt & his lovely sister formerlylavendar actually pushed me toward him and he was great, my wife asked if she could take the picture and we did. Very cool. Some posters to this site know how to get backstage but I can't help you there. I just stood in the alley, then walked to see jbt in the pub, then walked back. He does not rush out - he must take a bubble bath or something judging by the time we were waiting. Have fun when he comes back.

Thanks BillW for the info on getting to see Gordon after a show! If (when!!) he ever tours near me, I plan on going to the show and I really would love to get an autograph and a picture afterwards. I will have to practice being assertive--I'm not too good at that!

Has anyone heard if tickets are on sale
anywhere else? If they are going on sale,
this is a positive sign.
Gord, hope that you are getting stronger every day. Our thoughts are always with you.

Wow! Front Row! I've gotten in the 3rd row, before. One of the most interesting things about Gordon Lightfoot is that you can never predict what he'll do next, as far as playlists go. I think he likes to keep people guessing...
I've seen him four times in the last 10 years, and he has done a completely different concert each time. I remember thinking he would never do "The Watchman's Gone" but he started doing it again in recent years. I did hear him do a wonderful rendition of "East of Midnight" in '93 and I actually yelled it out at a concert in '99, but he didn't do it. He is noted to say on Valerie Magee's site that it is in a higher key than he performs currently, but that he occasionally does it with a different arrangement. Oh well, I hope I'll (and others too) get to see him perform it again. But, he has been known to do requests, I guess it depends on what mood he's in!
You're in for a great time. He talks more at his shows than he did before. When I saw him twice in '93, he didn't say a word. The last two times I've seen him he's been more talkative, even stopping to joke once about the way a certain other artist plays guitar!
I'm jealous, you're so lucky! Have a great time!
