I just bought this thing myself, haven't heard it all completely but Jesse Winchester's version of Sundown..... um um it sucks. He butchered it completely.

Bend in the Water sounds like it was done by The Muppets! LOL LOL

Out of all the songs on the CD, Winchester's Sundown is my least favorite. He strayed to far away from the melody and the feel of the song. I don't have a problem with an artist putting a little of himself in a cover, but he just went too far with it. He left nothing of Gord in there.

The first time I heard Bend In The Water, I though it was a bit strange, but it's growing on me. I sat down and listened closely to it and started hearing all these sound effects that give it a swampy sound. I kind of like it now. I think it's pretty creative.

My two favorites are The Way I Feel, and CRT.

Apparently it will be released here in the States in mid-October. But I don't think I'm going to rush out to the stores to buy one. Gord's versions are and always will be the best.

It's for sale all over the Internet or you can order a copy from the Northern Blues site.

Does anyone know why they call the CD "Beautiful" when that song is not on it?

Funny, Winchester's version of Sundown is my VERY FAVORITE track on the entire tribute album! Also, for whatever reason, I much prefer "Side One" to "Side Two" (maybe because the latter are more straightforward, less creative or unique versions). By the way, I find it kind of cool that there is no version of Beautiful; I suspect the use of that title merely reflects the overall nature of Lightfoot's music and melodies.

One more listen confirms that "Sundown" is the coolest tribute track. Jesse Winchester kind of sounds like Chris De Burgh ("Don't Pay the Ferryman"). I also enjoy "The Way I Feel" (Cowboy Junkies) and "Summer Side of Life" (Rodeo Kings), and for the first time ever I can begin to appreciate "Go Go Round" (Blue Rodeo). Side Two is still sort of flat.

Will someone list all the songs on this CD and who sang each of the songs? Just as a small favor.

I agree with Restless. Jesse Winchester's version of Sundown is one of the best tracks on the CD. Others that I happen to like are: Ribbon of Darkness: Bruce Cockburn; Drifters: Ron Sexsmith; Go Go Round: Blue Rodeo; For Lovin' Me: Terry Tufts; and That Same Old Obsession: Maria Muldaur. In general the more interesting tracks are those where the artist provides his/her own unique interpretation of the music, rather than trying to imitate Gord.

Thanks a lot Brink!
Is there anywhere I can go to to listen to samples?(Unfortunately I know none of the people who are listed above but if the samples sound good I just might get this CD).

Yes DMD3 Valerie Magee has put 2 30-second clips on her site's "Beautiful" review page
just click on the CD cover image to see the full track list and 2 highlit clipped tracks(of TWIF and CRT both very nice IMHO)
at:-
http://gordonlightfoot.com/LightfootTributeAlbum.shtml
I checked amazon and cd universe but neither site has any clips at the moment but after a tad more googling I was rather surprised to find on the Northern Blues site that you can download a 4 minute 13 second (the entire track) sample mp3 (990KB) of
the Cowboy Junkies "The Way Feel" or a possibly smaller real audio file
from:- http://www.northernblues.com/cd_beautiful.html

Received my copy this morning from Amazon. A most worthy tribute, though listening to some tracks makes me wanna hear the real thing more! Love Ron Sexmith's take on "Drifters" though.

I added three more clips to my web site this morning, for those of you who are still considering whether you want to order this CD. It's really an excellent tribute CD which most Lightfoot fans will enjoy.
