Default Open Mic -played CRT :)

It felt good! lol The rhythm guitar went fairly well and I was shocked it stayed in tune the entire song . When Gordon performed CRT Friday night, I was paying extra close attention I decided to try something different though -to slow down greatly on two stanzas...that follow the lyrics "cause we're moving too slow". Just to see how it felt, I played it as though I was moving too slow. kinda worked.

For the 1st time, a few of my co-workers who are always too busy to stay and listen...finally were able to and gave me positive feedback. All together - seemed like the audience wasn't enthralled, that's for sure. I feel like I want to say they weren't ready for it? But it was me who wasn't ready, in a way. Sometimes I'm finding I have to get up and play and see how it goes, and then back home to iron things out for another time.

My vocals -eeeya well when I rehearsed this afternoon, I had to move my capo from the 3rd up to the 4th fret for another song I did, and I play CRT on the 5th as it is and couldn't take the time to tune my guitar down.

One of my coworkers said it was different to hear a husky, folksy voice, like Bob Dylan he said. ah...I didn't know how to respond and just stood there looking puzzled. So he went on to tell me that he meant that in a good way. And then I decided to tell him I've had struggles with my vocals after having undergone 2 radiation treatments a couple of decades ago - I didn't say that as an excuse, but to admit that I realize that my voice doesn't sound too pretty!!!

One musician did ask me if I would duet with him on a traditional folk song sometime soon and I think I may try it!

1st song I did was Luka Bloom's "Better time" and that went over much better. I heard someone get all excited when I started it, and they sang along to the 1st verse. I thought they sounded better than I did hehe. A silent prayer to St. Francis and sent some good thoughts and thanks over to Luka in Ireland before I started playing.

Well, jeez Pam, wouldn't CRT be one of the most difficult songs you could choose to sing?
I know you like a challenge, but still, give yourself a break there sweetie.

One thing I picked out from your post is that the audience was more in favor of one song than another. I think that has a lot to do with their reaction...sometimes more so than the way you sing or play, it's what you are performing that gets the good or bad reaction.

You are always kind of hard on yourself. Pretend you are talking to one of your friends before you start all that self dialouge...what you are doing isn't easy no matter what you sing. You are at least trying and having a good time. The rest of it will follow.

Thank you for your kind words . I am having a good time and lots of nice people there ...we have so much fun and we just share laughs the whole while (well, not when people are performing). Last open mic, I didn't perform and just went to listen to some wonderful talent and to socialize. When I perform though - the feedback is important because I'm not doing this to just entertain myself, I'd like to know the audience finds it entertaining too!

Hey Pam. This is a really cool revelation that you do that tune. As Nightingale says it is one of the most difficult songs you could choose.
I love it dearly but I have to confess it always made me "gasp" all the way to "Gaspe" every time I give it an attempt.
So now be on notice that you are drafted to the Nov 2009 gigs in Toronto and you are officially on the bill with us and we will want to hear from you about that momentous occasion when the completion of the Canadian Pacific Railroad came out to the world in song on the air waves!
As was the last time, the "B45" will be there and of course our old friend "Six string Martin," so let the momentum begin.
Ah, I hear in the distance the very first female voice ever (for me at least) performing my favorite Gordon Lightfoot song today, "The Canadian Railroad Trilogy."
The countdown begins! Cheers, Ron J.

You know Ron I had never tought of it before but I dont think I've ever heard CRT done by a female voice either !

Pam you should put your music on YOU TUBE, and then you would have a darn good bunch of Corfidians listen to you.

As far as CRT done by a female voice, I guess this would be one. But not done by a female alone... So I still stick by what I said in the upper post.
