I recently completed the first of I don't know how many self-made GL tapes. I titled this one,"Minstrel Of The Dawn". To make it a bit easier,I'm using 120 min. tapes, this way I can fit at least 16 to 17 songs on each side! 18 if the songs are shorter than 3 min. "These" songs below are in reverse Billboard Chart order. Least sucessful single to Sundown and then the last two songs just for the heck of it.
This is side 1:
Anything For Love
If I Could
That Same Old Obsesion
You Are What I Am
Summer Side Of Life
Race Among The Ruins
Talking In Your Sleep
Beautiful
Baby Step Back
The Circle Is Small ('78)
Rainy Day People
Carefree Highway
If You Could Read My Mind
The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald
Sundown
Cotton Jenny and Magnificent Outpouring. (Side 2 will be in my next post,I'm just about out of time.) Thanks for reading!

Be careful with those tapes. My experience has been that they "go bad" more easily than standard-length tapes. Maybe the 120 tape is thinner, less durable (to fit more in the cassette); I don't know for certain. You may have no trouble, but I thought I'd send this warning.

You hit the nail on the head Restless. The longer the tape the thinner the tape. Neccesary evil to get more tape on the same size cassette. The thinner tape degrades faster, is more prone to kinks and tears and is more likely to allow bleed through from one side of the tape to the other.

Hi! It's me and just for a change of venue and pace,I'm posting today from the main downtown branch of the Phoenix Public Library on the 2nd floor. Unlike the small, two story bulding I usually post from, this one is five very huge stories high and was opened in May of 1995. It sort of looks like the starship Enterprise when you 1st enter but I'm used to it. Anyhow,I have finished side 1 of the second tape but I left so quickly to get the bus,I forgot it!
All I can say at this point is,it came off really well and I finished it with exactly 1 sec. left on the end. I started it with the 1st 2 songs on CD 1 of Songbook but I'll list the songs next time I post. Until then,it's been me,later!

Knightmoves...Well you have to have a name with some kind of meaning on this website(usually romantic, or descriptive of nature) One of my favourite songs to play on the Guitar is a song called Night Moves by Bob Seger. So there it is...most of the good Lightfoot related names are taken it seems. In my last posting in which I was looking for the name of that song...I cant just listen to the cd that I heard it on, and quickly find it, as I have been hearing it on my cd that I have my whole GL cd collection recorded on in Mp3 format. In that mp3 format I can get about 200 songs recorded on one cd with really good quality. Then when I work around the house, or sit out by the fire, all I have to do is play that one cd on random play, and it goes for hours and hours non stop. (for this you need a cd player or a DVD player that plays Mp3s). So I wondered why you dont create albums this way? They last forever, and to get set up these days to have the creative capability, is not very expensive.

Okay, this confirms my suspicions. Knightmoves is a certified Lighthead, just like the rest of us. He belongs here.
Knightmoves, you've just scored an A+ on your "Am I A Certified Lighthead?" test. (You get 25 bonus points because you're a guitar player.
Welcome aboard,

I knew Knight moves was a Lighthead! Otherwisee he wouldn't be here in the 1st place. Well,I was going to finish tape #6 last night (17th) but personal matters prevented my doing so before the end of GL's birthday.
I do have the title,"A Message To The Wind." I also have the last songs lined up and ready to go. So until I finish, type at you next time! Later!

Well,I finished the 6th and last 2 hour tape of the bunch on Thanksgiving night! The most difficult of them all!
I would've brought it with me today if I'd known I was getting out of work so early. I was supposed to be there until 8pm MST but we were done 4 hours early! So I'll post the last titles tomorrow.
I am going to be doing a short 60 minute tape centering on the Sunday Concert CD,since I only used one song from it on the others. If I've any space left on that,I'll add some Gord's Gold selections.
Back tomorrow,later!

On the morning of Dec. 31st,'03 at about 12;30am,I completed this final tape of GL songs. Whew! It took 3 & 1/2 months but it was worth it. I'm glad I could post up here and share this with you all for that was my intention in the 1st placeas far as the postings are concerned. It might have seemed self-indulgent but that's far from the truth. I just wanted to share the experiece. One last thank you to all that did read these,I appreciate your intrest.
So without further delay Tape #8,"Gord's Gold '75 & '89:Selections" (Catchy title,huh?)
Side 1 (All GGII)
Shadows
Hang Dog Hotel Room
Cherokee Bend
Race Among The Ruins
Im Not Supposed To Care
All The Lovely Ladies
The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald '89
Triangle
Side 2
High & Dry '89
Bitter Green '75
Softly '75
Song For A Winter's Night '75
Canadian RR.Trilogy '75
Early Morning Rain '75
& these 3 cover versions:
If You Could Read My Mind as done by Olivia N. John (mis-titled "If I Could Read Your Mind on the "Let Me Be There" LP)
For Lovin' Me-Peter Paul & Mary
and The Last Time I Saw Her-Glen Campbell.
Of course,I put those in because I ran out of Gord songs and had room for them.
Well,it's been quite a crazy thing but now it's complete and I don't mind saying that by the time I started this tape..I was contemplating quiting but I thankfully did not. Here's to Gordon Lightfoot and this unique little library of music! For The Borderstone Tapes Thread...end communique!

tapes?? for god sake we have cd's now they last longer and sound better, no hiss and less chances of breakage, by the way i like the order of the songs you people listed, i always wanted to make a cd of just the unreleased songs from songbook, its hard listening to a newer gord song and then an old one, kind of like mixing newer beatles songs with old ones, i stick to just the whole album, 1 at a time

Yes,E.W.....Tapes! I do not own a CD burner nor do I have the intention of buying one anytime soon. It's what I grew up with and know so that's what I used. Maybe in a future date I might convert but not any time soon that I can see. I'm signing off from here on this thread. Later!
