This might be a matter of fact or opinion but what single Gord song has captured him more fame and popularity than any other song?

I can't just give a single song, IYCRMM and Sundown I think tie for being the most popular songs with Gord singing, but Early Morning Rain also because of how many covers there have been and who did those covers. This is based on what was played in the US, I'm sure there were very popular ones in Canada that didn't get much air play here.

No question in my mind. It has to be The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald. That's the one he'll always be remembered for, and because of the song, the sinking of the ship and the 29 men who died will forever be immortalized.

I concur with you Cathy! Even though ..Read My Mind gave him his first hit and Sundown was #1 and Carefree Highway is also unforgettable,"Wreck" has gained him the most notariety in both Canada and the U.S.
Mainly for the very reasons Cathy mentioned.

I can't say what level of fame he's attained in other countries but if it's anything like home, then it's just as good. If only "Wreck" had been #1 here in the states instead of #2,there would really be no contest to it.
It's been me,later!

No Question:
The Wreck of the Edmund Fitgerald. Real
GL fans certainly like some or all of his
other music. That is obvious. But almost everybody has heard and recognizes this classic. I personally wanted to learn more about this musician named Lightfoot after I was blown away by TWOTEF at the age of seven.
