Anyone know why this one album is out of print while they just released the final four recently? Was it on another label?
Thanks a lot.

It was on the same label, while there are a couple of potential hit songs on this disc, commercially it was a failure on the pop charts. So that's my guess as to why it went out of print.
However if you are looking for a copy of it many of us on this board have it, including me and I have a CD Burner. Someone might burn ya copy if you ask politely.

So will "A Painter Passing Through" be out-of-print soon as well? It too had to do just as bad on the charts because it gets no air time, not even in Canada (according to some of our Canadian members). "Waiting For You" is one of my favorite CD's and I have 3 original copies of it. There are at least 2 on Ebay right now, one of which has a "buy-it-now" option for $8.95. IMO, it ranks up there with some of his better known material that was on the charts.
One of the best love songs ever written is "I'll Prove My Love". The song "Restless" is one of my all time GL favorites. "Fading Away" is great as well as "the title track "Waiting For You". "Drink Yer Glasses Empty" is another great on on the CD. Also can't forget about Dylan's "Ring Them Bells". The whole CD is great and I am sure it is a favorite amongst most of us.
To me, this is some of his best work hands down. Obviously, he was not trying to write music or produce it for the masses in hopes of some great comeback on the charts. It is the artist once again at work for he and his fans. There are no frills or any hint of begging to get back on the charts. It's 100% Lightfoot in his usual, uncompromising style.
I have an extra copy that I burned for the car. If you want it, I can send it along.

That totally amazes me that the Canadian radio stations don't promote Gord's CD's. He has done so much to get Canadian recognition in the US, musically speaking.
They call him "a true Canadian icon" but yet his latest, contemporary work is not promoted. At least I would call "Waiting For You" and "Painter" contemporary works. Not only because they are his most recent works but because it fits in with what they play on adult contemporary radio.
Maybe I'm way off the mark here but I would guess that GL really doesn't give a hoot how well his stuff does on the Billboard charts but I wonder what his thoughts are on the airplay issue. As humble as what he seems, I can't imagine he would ever say anything publicly but when he is behind closed doors, I wonder what he thinks about it. On the outside it may appear to some that anything past 1986 is icing on the cake for him. But as loyal fans, we know that he has a lot more to say musically and the radio really should promote his music to let people know that he is still in commission. I don't think that GL would mind a little airplay.

I seldom hear anything other than greatest hits (the biggies, mostly Sundown and IYCRMM and sometimes Wreck)and can't say I've heard ANY airplay of songs from the last couple of albums, but "Top 20/Top 40" or whatever doesn't play much of what we'd call adult contemporary anyway, by anybody. And most radio programs aren't run by individual DJs as they were back in the day, but have a set playlist or the music comes canned (preprogrammed). So it's the little stations, independents, campus airwaves where you can get listener requests where a new artist, or older established artist, might have a fighting chance of getting a song aired.
Personally I see the internet bypassing a lot of the middlemen (distributors) and I say hurrah! I'd love to see Gord and others post free snippets for sampling and offering direct downloads at a price that's far less than what the majors are charging which still pays the artists directly more than the few cents they get from the labels. Buy one song, two songs (for those of you old enough to remember singles on 45s) or an album, knowing the artist is getting the lion's share of the payment, as it should be.

Hello, thanks for the info. Thanks for the offer Watchman for the extra cd, but I think I will go for the EBay copy or maybe Half.com and get one with the artwork and all. I'll talk to you all later in some thread or other. Have a good holiday season and all.

Commercial is about MAKING MONEY! Its a business. I suggest you either write letters to change this or support your local public radio station which plays Lightfoot music!

What I find amazing is that there aren't more people in Canada that follow his music like we do on this site. If they did, the radio would play it. But, if the radio does not play it, how will anybody know who does not surf the internet?
The stations that I hear play his music play the older songs like Sundown etc. Never have I heard anything since 1986 on the radio. I was just making an observation about how little he is promoted in his own country. Obviously, Canadians either don't want to hear his newer material or they don't know that it is out there. My guess is that the age group that listens to adult contemporary, enjoy GL and would welcome the chance to know what is new, but they probably have no idea. I had no idea that GL was thinking about making "Painter" much less that it was out on CD until I saw him in concert and he was promoting it. At that time, I was not on the internet so I had no clue about sites such as this one. The same thing happened with "Waiting For You". I had no idea until I saw him in concert. Radio stations get promotional CD's and cassettes when he is about to release anything new. I have one from "Waiting For You". Yet they don't play them and if they do they sure don't play it near enough to do any promoting. I don't expect them to do that here in the US, but in Canada I always thought that he had the popularity of Elvis and no matter what was trendy on the radio, his latest music would be made available to the listeners. Still, I find that suprising that it hasn't happened.
Here in the US you hear his classics on adult contemporary radio. Never, not even once did I see that he had taken ill in Sept. Nor have I seen that he is home. We get very little info. on him and if it wasn't for the internet, I bet that I still would have no idea what had happened. Of course I did have tickets for Oct. so the cancellation call would have clued me in.

How many people here lost track of Gord during the 80s, then discovered him again via the Internet?
I lost track of Gord in the late 70s, because my husband didn't like any type of music except old C&W. Years later, I got rid of the husband and was at a jam session where someone played IYCRMM. This was probably in early 1998 or so. A few days later, while looking for the lyrics to IYCRMM, a song that I had forgotten even existed, I found Val Magee's and Wayne Francis' websites, and was shocked to see that I'd missed 20 years of Gord's music, and that he was still touring. Since then I've been to just about every Gord concert in the Northeast, including Massey Hall.
Had I not come across these fan websites, I'd still be in the dark.

Having lived in Toronto and area for all my life I've been blessed with my annual and then later on the 18 month concerts at Massey and never was without Lightfoot since I was 15. His music is played here in Toronto on the "soft-Rock" stations and oldies stations but it's the same old "hits." I never hear any of the "newer" stuff and don't expect to. I think this is fine with Lightfoot- he always has been a musician who pleases his own soul first and if the song happens to be a "hit" then that's just gravy. His integrity has always come through in his music. I think I'll raise my glass on New Year's Eve and play my video of him singing Auld Lang Syne from a few New Years Eves ago. His recover and that should be just the right note to welcome 2003!

Have never lost track of Gord or his music since 1970. Once a true fan of Gord, it seems always a fan! I have been saying special prayers for his recovery since September and, now, am praying that he is able to really enjoy this holiday season at home with his family. After New Year's I think the prayers will start for "myself"...that Gord will be able to resume recording and touring and continue to provide one more reason for living for a long time to come!

boy talk about norhtamerican migration patterns... the places one topic goes on this website is amazing, relative, but, amazing. hm-m-m could that be why I am drawn to this site like a bug to a light on a hot summer night. living in ne ohio we must be blessed because we have a few soft rock stations that keep playing Gord and not all of his old stuff either. best news is you can load your cd player with straight Gord and hit the button for whichever sound you are looking to groove to, it works like that, or at least mine does. when I hit the road for a long trip you better believe I go at the very least half loaded with Gord cd's in there, for my listening enjoyment nothing else works. I only wish I had the early stuff because I can't find it and nobody close to me owns the early albums...I'm worn thin with looking through every record stores stacks for this stuff.
Happy Holidays!
