but searching on facebook for Whispers of the North found zilch nada about the tribute band but while I was there I was pleased to find that I am a friend of long time no hear of Darin Hogan who so memorably produced the Canary Yellow teashirts for the very first Massey "convention" back in 1999

Re: Lightfoot Tribute band on Facebook.
I think I now know why I hate Facebook
In addition to the poor search system or lack of same
The fact is that ever since I started a page there my profile insists that I am in Tennesse (which just so happens to be one of only about a dozen or so states that I have never actually visited). I also made a typo when setting up the page but despite extensive searching and time wasting on Facebook itself and the internet I can find no way to edit the incorrect info that will work for me.
The nearest is the "Edit Information " link as clearly evident in this screenshot but there is absolutely no entry box to insert my correct location which as you can see appears as text in pale blue saying Kingsport but that text is not itself editable
and this is despite the provision of the "edit" link which does
SFA for me
there is a more complete disertation on SFA at:-
http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/s...nny-adams.html
If anybody with spare time or the requisite knowledge can tell me in an easy to understand and reliable way how to accomplish this most basic of tasks I would be hugely obliged

Re: Lightfoot Tribute band on Facebook.
John, when I tackle editing mine I will take notes and share. Facebook has never appealed to me, especially because you must commit to it in order to see anything. As a result, I set up the requisite account but did nothing with it. Over time, however, a lot of Lightheads made "Friend" requests so I eventually responded to them (some after many months). I have found Twitter useful for doing publicity, but I am still not enamored of Facebook and have found it difficult to navigate. Twitter too has some features that take months to find, but I think I now have it mastered!

Err Umm if that is true why did he bother to join Facebook in the first place and upload so many photos of his family
It's a grey area to be sure but surely if you voluntarily publish something about yourself on the internet you must accept that it might get repeated elsewhere
(Unless for example of course somebody uploads a less than flattering video of you dancing onto youtube!)
I have earlier attempted to make contact with Darin via Facebook but no response yet so I will now send another mesage asking if he objects to my posting on corfid and inviting him to join us

Re: Lightfoot Tribute band on Facebook.
But you have introduced his Facebook to many people who otherwise would only know of it if they are his friends.
Perhaps the lack of reply is his answer.

Yes that is true
but he was at one time a fairly prolific Newsgrouper.
Whatever I have now sent another message on his "wall"
As far as friends are concerned I found that he was already included in my facebook list of friends. It is hard to remember now but I did not specifically ask for that unless it was an automatic facebook action to go rifling through my hotmail address book and contacting my friends there in which case he must have responded positively
I do not recall ever asking anybody to be my friend on facebook and several people have previously found my own facebook page
I hope to hear back from Darin and that he'll post on corfid one day
I'll report back

Re: Lightfoot Tribute band on Facebook.
Darin has not been active in any Lightfoot forums for many, many years now. And even if he is active now it's still HIS information.
A person has to be contacted by you or the FB suggestion e-mail I think. But they cannot be added until that person who was invited accepts the invitation.
Because you are FB friends doesn't mean you can just take his info/pics and splash it all over hell's half acres for the whole world to see. He doesn't have his privacy settings high but it's just plain common sense and respect to not take a persons privacy.
Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Re: Lightfoot Tribute band on Facebook.
Hi John and Charlene. It has been awhile. I just don't get on the computer much these days. My beautiful wife actually set up my Facebook account and put the pictures on. I'm really not into the facebook thing. I very rarely check that let alone email. Stacy usually gives me a heads up if there is something worth noting. So i figured I'd stick my toe into the internet waters for a bit and respond to your discussion. John, I'm not mad at your posting those pictures. If you had asked I probably would have said I'd rather not. But you have a valid point, when pictures are put out there, we never really know where they might end up. So don't worry about it. Thanks Char for coming to my defense.
That picture of my son and myself was at a GL concert at wolftrap VA. That was his second GL concert. That time we got back stage and Caleb was able to sing his favorite song (at the time) "I'd do It Again" To Gord. It was lots of fun! No promises as to when I might make it back again. Like I said I rarely go online much these days. Stacy and Caleb keep me busy.

Re: Lightfoot Tribute band on Facebook.
Hey Darin! you've got to come to Toronto for the 2011 concerts in May 2011. it wil lbe the 10 year anniversary - exact same dates too!
lol
I'll have another cake for you!
glad to hear you are getting to a concert or two! Caleb's a cutie-with blonde hair!
I thought you'd prefer not to have the pics posted without your knowledge/permission..even tho they are on your site doesn't mean it's ok for someone else to take them and put them somewhere else even if they can..
drop in more often...
