Curious about our Canadian
Just curious about a few things:
1. Is Gordy presently married and are they separated if so?
2. How many kids does he have, what are their names and how old are they?
3. Does he still smoke?
4. What's his favortie tv show.
5. Does he attend church anywhere faithfully.
6. What's his favorite sport? (I've heard him speak about baseball)
7. Did he play any sports in school? (and is the home team still on fire? lol)
8. What are his hobbies?
9. Does he golf?
10. What type of diet does he stay on given his health?
11. What kind of music does he listen too.
12. Does he ever intend to write his life story?
13. Does he have abodes established anywhere other than Canada.
14. Did he ever date Char (lol)?

5. Does he attend church anywhere faithfully. Xmas eve choir from what he's said..don't know about anything else..He shows up in Orillia once in a while to sing at the church there..
6. What's his favorite sport? (I've heard him speak about baseball) - Leafs hockey/Argos football/Raptors basketball/Jays baseball..

12. Does he ever intend to write his life story? - he's said "nope - who'd want to read it?"
13. Does he have abodes established anywhere other than Canada. - Not that I've ever heard of..he's a homebody-no more travel for pleasure..time not spent on music is time spent with family he says.

Re: Curious about our Canadian
I read somewhere that He was involved in track in High School.
Gordon did either the discus or shot-put and pole-vaulted. I think he set a school record at the time in the pole-vault. He may have done others also.

Well remembered Kevin
I have the distinct advantage that I have just finished reading the GL biography "If You Could Read His Mind" by Maynard Collins (having lost an Ebay auction for an example I found one in almost as new condition at the reasonable price of US$26.00 (including the exhorbitant Canadian postage)) purchased from a dealer in Port Perry Ont via the fantastic online database of worldwide used book sellers kept by http://www.abebooks.com
There are still 16 more copies listed from US$ 20..00 upwards
in this fine volume Mr Collins wrote
"in his graduating year, he made the track and field team where he specialized in shot-putting and pole vaulting.Lightfoot later would claim that he could vault eleven feet and was the school champion, but his old high school books do not mention such a thing, and his old football coach claims he can't remember Lightfoot ever participating in any school sports"
BTW clasicmix there is a broadly similar thread to this one at-

Re: Curious about our Canadian
In regards to question #4, I am a big John Wayne fan, so I asked Gord once what his favorite John Wayne movie is(he mentions "watch a John Wayne movie to remind us" in 'Drink Yer Glasses Empty'). His immediate reply was "Wake of The Red Witch".
In regards to question #12, I asked him also once about writing his story and his reply was
"No. You get to a point in life where it just doesn't matter anymore."

Re: Curious about our Canadian
Number 3 really concerns me. Isn't it kind of defeating the purpose of working out at the gym vigorously if he continues to smoke? I wonder if it contributed to his stomach aneurysm in 2002. I have read that smoking deteriorates the arteries. Also, it sure isn't helping his voice any. I'm surprised he continues given the health issues he's confronted and his need for lung power when he performs. I guess old habits are hard to break.

Re: Curious about our Canadian
It would be wonderful if he stopped smoking but seeing as it's been a habit of his since he was a teen probably I don't see him breaking it anytime soon..
Working out at the gym and doing cardio is not only for his breathing and voice control/stamina it is for his whole body to be fit so he can have the energy required to go out on tour and stay healthy...even if he does smoke. I imagine there'd be a different voice these days if he had quit smoking back in the early 80's when he stopped drinking..I'm pretty sure however that had the drinking continued the touring/recording etc. would have ended a long, long time ago..

You got that right Charlene, the man said it himself in an interview w/ the late great Peter Gzowski. A bottle a day for three years.

I never knew that alcohol would actually have an affect on the voice. I knew smoking would, though.

Re: Curious about our Canadian
I don't know if it would directly affect 'the voice' but it certainly would affect the 'whole' person/body/mind and their ability to get out on tour, get up on stage, write and record music and ultimately use the voice they have..

My own answer to question#12 would have to be "I would!" His bio would be one that I'd be inclined to want to read.

Great answer CHar !
7. Did he play any sports in school? (and is the home team still on fire? lol) I've heard mention that he skied..
I would dare say he played some hockey in school. Alan Thicke once introduced him on the Juno's as a puck hog and friend.
Same as you on question #12 timetraveler, it would be an interesting read...

Does anybody know how tall he is? Looking at some of his photo's it appears he is short, but of course photo's can be deceiving right?

I'd say he's about 5' 6". He's a bit shorter than I am, and I'm about 5' 7".

Re: Curious about our Canadian
I'm 5' 5 1/2" and he's a bit taller than me..
Pic taken in january@ Hugh's Room - my heels were 1 1/2" and he had runners on..
I figure he's close to 5'7" - 5'7 1/2".. he seems to be hunched over a lot so that makes him shorter too.

In the picture I use for my Facebook profile, he looks VERY tall standing next to me. I have that effect on people.

Re: Curious about our Canadian
Wow, I never realized that Gord wasn't tall. On the stage, to me at least, he has a tall, commanding presence. Gosh, I'm only 5'1". We're perfect for each other
One thing I've been curious about, is why he and Elizabeth have been separated for so long but haven't divorced? I did see a very good interview online with him, can't remember who interviewed him, but it was a local, Toronto TV or radio guy. Gord mentioned something slyly about marriage/women costing him too much - ?

Re: Curious about our Canadian
His first marriage was costly in terms of alimony etc. and I'm sure this second ending has been costly as well..in every way.
I've never heard if a divorce has happened or not. I'm sure they have their reasons if they haven't made it legal.

Re: Curious about our Canadian
I was wondering about him and his second wife too. I looked her name up online and is she the one from here in TX? His music is all I listen to. I lost my husband and a son 18 years ago, he used to play Gord's music to calm me down after a rough day with the kids (had 5). Now it keeps me going through rough and good days. I wish I could see him Live in Concert.

Re: Curious about our Canadian
BTW..thanks for the information on his height. It doesn't matter to me how tall he is, his music is what makes him special. He covers almost everything about life in it and knows how to get the message out there. He's a genius! I have 12 pf his CD's and am working hard at getting the rest of them. Anyway, what is it that was said about when you are lacking in one area you make up for it in other ways? Well I guess he's made up for his height by making all of us women wish he was singing those songs to us...LOL! OH Man! I'd give anything to meet him and tell him thanks for getting me through life with his Talent!

Re: Curious about our Canadian
Hey Charlene, I found a website that links him to the Elizabeth Moon that lives in TX and she writes books too. That's why I was wondering if its really her.
