Default Nashville

Made our way to Nashville to see Gordon on Saturday.

Looked like a full house...

These were the best seats that I ever had for a GL concert. I did not want it to end.

From reading other set lists...different songs he sang were...

You're As Fine As Fine Can Be...
Sea Of Tranquility...
In My Fashion...

The Nashville audience was VERY appreciative of Gordon. It was an EXCELLENT evening.

I Met long time friend of Gords', George Hamilton IV, who is a REAL Gentleman. Mr. Hamilton talked VERY highly of Gord...said that this was the first time he saw Gord in a complete concert in thirty years. Mr. Hamilton is a CLASS act. A TREAT meeting him.

Will write more in the future... Tired from the trip.

Wes

Thanks for those great pics Wes, I had a feeling that George Hamilton IV would attend that concert. I saw him in concert in 1974 in Cap-Pele NB & he sang 2 of Gordie Lightfoot song that night, a class act he was even then

Those photos are not all that bad Podunklander, they are on the dark side but that first one is interesting to me... I can see it on the back of an Album cover such as the Shadows Album. Great seats you must have had, thanks for sharing.

Our seats were great -in row M...just under the beginning of the balcony. For this venue, I would have preferred balcony seats to really get to take in the ambiance.

lol I think I saw you there, Wes!

Podunk,

Wherever anyone sat, I thought it was a GREAT time.

It just went by too fast. Where I was sitting, I felt like GL was giving a personal concert in my living room. I could see though, those balcony seats would be a good deal.

--------------

What are the odds of this happening??????

The four of us drove down from Cleveland on that Saturday. After we were seated in the Ryman, I was standing next to my seat and I turned around to see a gentleman sitting RIGHT BEHIND me wearing a Cleveland Cavalier (NBA Basketball Team) jersey. I asked him if he was a "Cav's" fan and asked him where he was from. He almost floored me when he said he was from Cleveland with his other two friends. Over 2,000 people in the Ryman.... I am 500 miles from home... and three people from Cleveland sat directly behind us.. Had some nice conversation with them.... But what are the odds of that happening?

wow funny, cool lol quite a coincidence there Wes -sounds like time for Gordon to book a concert in Cleveland!

I sure didn't run into anyone from New England! At intermission a group of folks (mostly from TN, OK, Ala) were trying to guess my accent and were stumped. They thought -MI, MO, MN. Finally, one guy sheepishly said 'Boston'...close enough!

A guy seated in front of us -a Nashville songwriter, originally from Barre, ON. His friend (she gave me her email to send her pics, and I lost it ) is also a big fan of J. P. Cormier. Behind us...a guy who has been to 3 of Gordon's concerts and he said that last time Gordon was booked at the Ryman, was cancelled. Another guy told me that he's been to see Gordon every time he's had a concert in Nashville the past 30 years.

Walking around downtown before the concert was a blast! The Gruhn guitar store is nice and I tried out a few guitars there. We had dinner at the Big River Grille, which was packed. A couple of the street musicians were playing GL songs....and the one we went by at a corner close to the Ryman, was playing Sundown and telling passersby that Gordon would be performing that night at the Ryman.

I just loved walking by the bars and hearing the live music. All the TV's and radios -the Vanderbilt game. March madness, spring break. Was telling one lady at intermission, how much fun downtown is (she and her husband had driven @4 hours...they live out in the boonies in TN) told me to watch out for the hobos and that I need to be carrying a knife.

Podunk,

The songwriter you mentioned... Is that the guy who yelled out "Gord, Barre, Ont Loves You!"?

Downtown looked VERY interesting... people walking around all over the place... all the bars and restaurants... Was neat... You were lucky to get in there early to enjoy the town. I didn't get in there until two hours before the show started... Got to remember to bring my knife next time! LOL!

Before the doors opened at the Ryman, I had to make a visit to the men's room. The guard at the Ryman told me to go to one of the establishments on "Printers Alley".... I went with one of my kids friend (14 years old)... First time he was in a bar and he had an eye opening experience.... Country Music & COLD BEER!!!! COOL....

I saw GL in Nashville about 30 years ago at some kind of "Performing Arts Centre".... It was brand new then. We did take a tour of the Ryman that time and it has changed considerably since then.

yep! That was the guy

That tour must have been nice! I thought it was a shame that with the new addition, the original front of the Ryman seems so neglected and although the doors are there...it no longer serves as an entrance. There were a couple of posters up...but nothing for Gordon and no marquee

Podunk,

I sent Char some pics of the "old front" of the Ryman to post...

I was looking for the ghosts of Hank, Patsy, Roy, Hank Snow, etc.... in the windows, but they must have been at the new "Opry" that night.

Nope, this guy's name is Patrick. But Jason McCoy...is the name of the mayor of Vernon/Rockville.

Podunk,

You MUST have had a great time.... You saw ALL the sights.

30 years ago when we were there they had an amusement park called "Opry Land" and the New Opry was on those grounds. It was a VERY clean park... had a good time there. I am sure I would not recognize anything over there.

Yes, I did see some of the memorable cases... They were kicking us out of there, otherwise I would have stayed longer... REALLY, the whole evening there seemed like it went by in ten minutes. Just not enough time.

The Johnny Cash summer replacement TV show was the show that got me hooked on country music. I loved Cash... saw him in concert up here in Cleveland about 40 years ago.... Watching that Cash show on TV, I must have seen GL..... One of my favorite country songs back then was "Ribbon Of Darkness" by Connie Smith... I liked GL then and I didn't even know him.

How far were you away from GL when he was smoking the cig outside?

Yes, my son's friend (only 14, but as tall as me 6' 1") went in to the bar with me. His mother thought it was hilarious. Yes, we were all in suits.

Another laugh... my two boys were waiting outside of the bar and a passerby came up to them and asked them if they were "Mormans"? My boys told them no... Do Only Mormans wear suits????????????

I did say we would stick out like a sore thumb.
