Re: Ron Jones - Busker extraordinaire!!
Many thanks guys.
Becoming a busker was one of the best things I've ever done.
I can't believe the fun it really is and the spin offs that come from busking never cease to amaze me and meeting and becoming friends with buskers has unfolded another wonderful part of life for me being one.
To shed more light re RM's post; Granville Island is a major tourist attraction in the city of Vancouver and because of the moderate climate here buskers perform outdoors all year round and the outdoor locations allow for one hour performances.
I usually do three during a day with breaks in between but only during the warmer months and there are enough spots available to keep us going all day long if we wish. The show times run between 10:00AM till 7:00PM.
Buskers are organized to a degree as we have to follow guidelines and pay a yearly fee ($50.00 to perform outside, $25.00 for indoors) and and each morning a draw is held to determine the choice outdoor spots as some spots work different depending on what type of performance the busker does.
The name and type of performance is then posted on a board in the busking location as is shown in the video.
This time of year I usually work indoors as there's a select number of spots there as well. The indoor spots are for 30 minutes and buskers can perform merely by signing up at the location site on a first come first served basis.
They usually organize a party for us once a year and it's always lots of fun.
More information is available from a google search of "Granville Island Buskers."
Cheers, RJ.
