Kim Berry has waited her entire life to see Gordon Lightfoot perform live in concert. Her dreams came true yesterday as she excitedly stood in line at the Opera House box office to snatch up a seat.
"I've been trying to get Lightfoot tickets all my life," Berry said. "I'm in this line and it looks like I'm finally going to see him."
Berry heard of the Nov. 14 and 15 benefit concerts while visiting a friend in the area, she said. To attend the show, Berry will be travelling more than 11 hours from her home in Hornepayne in northwestern Ontario.
"I'm a huge fan. I've always been a huge fan. I'm very excited," Berry said. "I have every album he ever made. I hope to bring one and maybe get a signature."
Valerie Abraham waited outside the Opera House for 20 minutes yesterday to get tickets.
"I got to get in there and get tickets," she said, while waiting. "When I was a teenager I listened to his music all the time; I just love it."
Abraham was just 16 years old the last time she saw Lightfoot in concert.
"When I heard about this one I said, 'OK we're going,'" she said.
There are still Lightfoot tickets available, but they are close to being sold out, said Opera House general manager Krista Storey.
"Anyone thinking that they want to get tickets they should get them right away," she said. "I'm expecting a sellout definitely before the end of the week."
Concert proceeds will be split evenly between the Orillia Opera House and Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital.
The concerts begin at 8 p. m. both nights and take place in the 700-seat Gordon Lightfoot auditorium.
Tickets are available 24 hours a day online at
www.orilliaoperahouse.ca.,or at the box office, which opens at 11 a. m. daily.
