Guitar hero.
Had a very quiet day, good-deed wise. I did hold the door open for some frozen parishioners trying to rush into church and get out of the cold.

About half way through the service, I also spotted a pair of gloves that had slid off the pew in front of me onto the floor. They were at the far end, so I waited for a hymn to start, which meant everyone would stand up. Then I scooted over to that side, picked up the gloves and slid them onto the seat without anyone noticing. (Everyone behind me noticed, I suppose….)

On Sundays, I like to spotlight everyday heroes, and my hero today is a pretty famous one … none other than Canadian folk icon Gordon Lightfoot.

Not because of his music — although I love his gravelly voice and haunting songs — but because of his kindness.

Since the spring, Lightfoot has been stopping to chat with a panhandler near Toronto’s Sheraton Centre and giving him $5 or so each time. One day, Lightfoot asked if the man would like to see one of his concerts and — no fool he — the man said yes.

Not only did Lightfoot arrange for some prime Massey Hall seats for the guy, but also a backstage tour.

In between songs, the man was so overcome with gratitude, he reportedly called out, “I love you, man!”

To which, Lightfoot joked from the stage, “We’ll talk about that later.”

Warms my heart to hear of such a thoughtful and caring gesture from one of Canada’s music legends. He’s certainly my guitar hero ….

That's cool, I forwarded that to my Catholic and Christian family members. I don't believe in any religion anymore, but I respect the way religion has brought some structure and order to society. It seems our society has to have some religion or we will all go insane or anarchist. Just my opinion.

For what it's worth, when it comes to being religious & practicing my faith, the one guiding principle that I go by is treat others the way that you would want others to treat you. Even the Son of The Almighty said that the one primary guiding force should be love for others as well as yourself.

Just a follow-up to my post about Gord's Good Deed, but also thoughts about Family in general..I'm a middle-age uncle seeing so many young ones spring up in my family... I used to be a kid looking up at those older ones...now I am one of the old ones..where did the time go?
Gordon Lightfoot's 1993 CD "Waiting for you," he has a line in the song of the same name,which goes " What would we do at the end of the day, when hours are asleep and the time slips away, Children are all that the Earth has to show, Children are all that the Earth wants to know, up here in the Northland up here in the snow."
I get what he's saying, that it all really comes down to children, having them, caring for them, so that you can carry on. Look at it from his perspective, he's been touring countries for most of his life, with very little family contact. Now that he's a grandfather, or even greater than that, he must treasure his time at home in Toronto around his family.His near-death experience, the aneurism, must have made him think more deeply. He sees children as precious indeed. For what it's worth.

I think you are right on my friend. As I get older, I see it too. The time flies by way too fast and our children become adults way too fast and they are the future and we must give them the best guidance we can. Nice to hear that Gord goes to church. I and my family do too.
