Summertime Dream
I've now made it to Summertime Dream in my lightfoot journey. I've stuck to listening to them in order except for my jump forward to Salute and I've heard two tracks of Painter but other than that, I've been good!
It's been a great journey so far. Summertime Dream is definately a strong album in some ways more likeable than Cold On The Shoulder. It's pretty refined and sophisticated. I find Race Among The Ruins very cathartic for some reason, so simple true and beautiful with an appealing melody. It's one of those songs that almost makes me cry and I don't know why that is.
Later!

Re: Summertime Dream
Hi, Young Stranger. I think you've got Summertime Dream, and Race Among the Ruins, pegged just right. I think most of us would rank the album as right among the tops; although we all have our own favorites, sometimes a bit quirky (I still think DQ is as good as it gets), we'd all say that SD is right up there. I think even Gord himself would agree with what you said about SD in comparison with Cold on the Shoulder, which he has characterized as a bit too negative--although I still love it.
Keep listening and writing.

Re: Summertime Dream
Race Among The Ruins and The House You Live In make SD a one-of-a-kind album. Of course, all GL albums are one-of-a-kind in their own way, but especially so with this one.

Re: Summertime Dream
Cold On The Shoulder is strange, it doesn't have many highlights for me but overall, listening from beginning to end it's a very nice record. Sundown for me is full of highlights but somehow doesn't hold together all that well.
Summer Side of Life and Don Quioxte are both very strong and feel like two sides of the one album. Maybe, so far I consider Old Dan's Records to be the weak one of that era.

Re: Summertime Dream
Summertime Dream was the first Gord album I bought in high school...it set me on a quest for all the previous ones. And still I think the most rock solid of his albums -- although that's kind of like one's first love...ya never get over it.

That is too funny about the porn star. I just pulled out my CD to double check, and now I can see why your friend might say that. Did he/she listen to the CD?

Re: Summertime Dream
I have recently gotten reacquainted with Gord's music, which I dearly love. The cover to Don Quixote has always been my favorite sexy image of him. My 15 year old daughter is hearing his music with her new young ears. She loves it. Funny fact: in 1979 when I had my first son I named him Gordon. He now has a Masters degree in fine arts and is teaching at a University. Hope Gord finds out that his namesake has turned out to love the Arts.
