OK here's another new Ebay thread
My extremely lethargic and very stoopid dial up is feeling particularly anti today so as I have lost patience waiting for it to take
10 minutes to load up a thread page I am starting over
It's That Man Again Gord's Uncle Don??
I think this relative has been reported before but it is good "laff" as the Charwoman puts it frequently
a current Ebay auction is for a Japanese issue COTS with an "obi" (a sash)
that has been rather unfortunately positioned as you can see

10 January edited to replace link to the temporary ebay item with stored image on my own website

Re: OK here's another new Ebay thread
I have recently as per the current US television and web page advertising put it been victorious in a pair of GL items auctions
that caught my eye
9 Gordon Lightfoot LP Records /w Audio CD Backups
The first has just arrived; a nice collection of nine assorted vinyl albums AND what on first sample listening reveals a very good matching set of nine CDs ripped from the vinyl. All for a mere $9.99 ( I was the only bidder plus $6.00 shipping
the seller is obviously a skilled audiophile and in view of the other recent thread on making CDs from vinyl his explanation as pasted into his auction blurb is well worth reading part of it says:-
"The albums are recorded using a program called Wave Corrector which records the wav file from the LP. After recording, Wave Corrector will count the amount of clicks (noise from the record) and save a new wav file (minus the clicks), which can then be burned onto an Audio CD. The CD created sounds exactly like you're listening to an LP without the noise. LP's to me sound better than CD's or tapes for some reason. They seem to have more depth like you are listening to a live show. The Audio CD's created retain this depth, they sound awesome."
just go to
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN:IT&ih=016
As far as the LPs go I noted that the Sunday Concert whilst superficially the same as my original 1969 purchased Canadian issue is on Liberty but has no gatefold and states that it is "abridged from the original". yet it appears to have the full set of 10 tracks.
And the other win??
CANADIAN TALENT LIBRARY LP GORDON LIGHTFOOT 1982
I have long been curious to get my hands and eyes on a copy of the Canadian Talent Library LP
I wont the one on
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN:IT&ih=010
for 50 cents less shipping than the LPs
dang having just looked closely at that picture I realise that the seller was disingenious and not being truthful when he said
"You are bidding on a Canadian Talent Library LP featuring Gordon Lightfoot."
as it is evidently the not exactly scintillating John Arpin piano instrumental versions that I already have on a different record label.Oh well you win some you lose some!!

Re: OK here's another new Ebay thread
John,
I'd have to agree with you on your assessment of LP's, CD's and LP's burned to CD. There are a lot of overlays and nuances of analog recordings converted to CD that are not faithfully reproduced via the modern digital to digital CD.
Some artists still prefer recording initially to analog before the final mix makes it's way to CD.
Here's something to think about:
CD technology became available to the masses in the early 80's and was touted as the ultimate in sound innovation. Isn't it sad though that just as the "ultimate" media was coming to the forefront, the music industry was losing it's ability to identify and promulgate talent?

bsolutely correct Val. In my haste to post about my recently received package which I wanted to sample I omitted to check the full album, I also miscounted as there are in fact on this abridged Liberty label (a division of Capital Records) issue only 9 tracks as both both Bitter Green and Softly got the axe. for some peculiar reason. I also see that the front sports an unecessary plain black band over 1.5 inches high (as you can see on the auction picture) and there is no mention on the album sleeve of the disc number )which is LN 10039)

Re: OK here's another new Ebay thread
John Arpin was a client of Mr. Bernie Fiedler, along with Pavlo, Liona Boyd, Lightfoot..
We lost two great pianists at the end of 2007..

Re: OK here's another new Ebay thread
An extremely rare rarity has justy appeared on ebay.
something I had never heard of before a GL "promo" 12 inch 33rpm single
described as:-
"U.S.WARNER BROTHERS PROMO 12" 33 RPM SINGLE # PRO-A-739 FROM 1978.SIDE ONE- DAYLIGHT KATY,SIDE TWO-HANDOG HOTEL ROOM"
unfortunately once again WB missed the boat because the seller also states
"COMES IN PLAIN WHITE COVER"

picture copied to my website for posterity as the original will disappear soon after the auction ends
